Heh, in Diablo 3, the Demon Hunter's quiver goes right through her cloak.
Diablo 3 didn't waste no assets on making sure there wasn't egregious clipping on their models. Because most of the time when you're playing they are TINY.
Although this does remind me of all the people on the Project Eternity forums demanding they be able to customize their character's eyeliner. For a game where your character model is going to be about 2 inches tall, tops. Eyeliner.

Anyone know what is the purpose of capes ? I mean, it literally has nothing practical in its design, nor is good looking or manly.
Tell it to Lord Vader.
There is nothing grander than making an entrance with your majestic sable cloak billowing behind you like the wings of a Balrog (in universes where Balrogs have wings),
Also: my Qunari mage will be female, and won't particularly want to look manly. Except when she's disguised, potentially.
Also: Orlais. How can there *not* be capes? See also: feather boas, skirts with trains, outrageous pantaloons, puffs, powders, patches, wigs with live birds in, amusing codpieces and farthingales with panniers so big you can only fit through doors sideways. And that's just the men ...

Capes in most games I've seen these days have clipping issues feet and armor going through the texture mostly.
Still if done right it would be cool especially if the cape is enchanted!

They don't even need to use have real physics for them, do it like most game devs and use baked animations.

We know from demo vids that there'll at least be badass longcoats, which are basically capes with sleeves

For the record, I am firmly pro cape.
