The more I think about it, the more the Deluxe edition seems to be a ripoff

Did it occur to you that some people like to pay the people who create these things?

And the reality is, that the people, who create the game (call them the bottom end of the food chain), will not receive one more cent. If you buy the normal version, they will get their payment and with the more expensive version, they will get the same payment.

If they earn more money, then the people, who don't deserve it, will pocket it.

Digital items I find quite worthless. I do like collecting things and my Aiden Pearce figure that came with Dedsec is a huge talking point and I've already had offers for more than I paid for him.

I decided that the Deluxe edition wasn't worth it, and also that the Inquisitor edition was out of my price range (£130+ only from Gamestop UK), so I just bought the standard version from Amazon. Apparently I get the Flames of the Quizition pack as a bonus.

I don't really care about the extra content. I don't plan on using the bog unicorn of the extra throne or the flaming weapons. I did buy it though because of the soundtrack. Figure $10 is worth that.

I want that soundtrack so badly

To me the armor and weapons we are getting alone are worth the extra 10$ but put in the soundtrack, 3 extra mounts and the throne and I just feel spoiled! Plus any physical stuff like the stuff you get with the inquisitors edition would just collect dust in my room! I much prefer what the deluxe edition offers! So no the deluxe edition is not a rip off! imo  :D

There's always a balance to maintain:

If the special edition has content that is important to the game or includes additional NPCs then it will be criticised for being day-one DLC.

So special content must be nice rather than than necessary.

If it's not nice enough then it will be irrelevant and not special.

Tough call to get right.

yes. It's a ripoff. So is the collector's edition.(spoiler alert: they have always been) But I'm fine with it, sort of. What I wouldn't have been fine with was restricting a character or a part of the story to DLC or deluxe editions. Selling cosmetic stuff for an extra buck is totally fine with me. Basically if you want to support the company more than buy it, if not, don't, you won't be missing out on much. As someone who hates buying all the extra fluff, and only gets the basic edition, I'm very happy with this decision. I particularly despised the Javik and Sebastian DLCs.

You can download from Youtube.

I can also buy it, and choose to support the artists involved, instead of pirating it.

Depends on the compensation structure. I've worked in publishing, a fairly similar business, and we used to receive bonuses for exceeding revenue targets. Not Wall Street levels, of course, but a nice chunk of change. I have no idea if Bio does anything similar.

And compensation structure aside, even if the folks at Bioware don't see an extra cent from it, it still sends a signal to the corporate overlords at EA that people like this game and are willing to shell out cash for it, prompting them to invest more in Bioware and the DA franchise, meaning greater success for Bioware and its employees in the long haul. Your analysis is very simplistic Bfler.

Anyway, it is a hard balance to get right, but I think they got it right this time. They're not touching story/character DLC, which is particularly obnoxious. I think $10 extra is perfectly reasonable for what you get.

My ddx preorder says future content to be announced.  I'm gambling on a digital art book maybe.

Plus, I really want EA to know I love Bioware and the DA series, so 10 extra bucks is more than worth that.

Well duh it's for fanboys like me who have instantly preordered it without caring about the contents  the fact that it is a ripoff is irrelevant  to us. It's all about how much  useless crap is stuffed into the box just so people like me can say (and believe you me I will) " I have the Deluxe edition ner ner ner  na!"  At which point another fanboy will say "well I have the super duper elite collectors edition with goblet and full size  sword and ridable  horse complete with stable and feed"

It's all for pecocking really

Trust me the fact that a very good game will probably be part of this package really kinda gets lost it makes EA and Bioware a lot money and as long we get extra dlc and associated useless knick knacks we will be happy

If they had sold a companion or even just a quest line separate from the standard edition the gaming community would rip them to shreds. I have no problem with this, if you don't think it is worth the money then don't buy it.

The only problem I would have with this is if the game was like DA2 and there were very few unique items actually in the game. That doesn't seem to be the case from what they are saying.

All paying the extra $10 will do is tell EA that charging extra for a few little in-game items that should have just been part of the full game is a sound business practice and provoke them to continue doing such.    Take a slice out, charge extra, they will pay.  Do what you want, but don't pretend its anything more then it is.

What I always wonder, what kind of wacky sense of worth does one need to have to think the full game, with all the content that entails, is worth $60, but then a few extra items, a percent of a percent of a percent of the full game, is worth another $10?  That's just insane.  But hey, as long as they aren't hiding actually important base content like Javik behind the additional paywall, and it keeps the base price down (its obvious EA want to charge $70 nowadays for all their games but don't yet believe they could get away with it), I'm fine to just let that theft happen, smh but its not my problem.  So don't mind me, just tossing my two cents on to the table.

Well I chose not to pirate it. I want to financially support people who make products I enjoy, that's how a capitalist society works.

As has been said many times before, you can buy a digital or physical standard addition for the usual $60 price, so what is the point of complaining?

Special editions are for fans who don´t mind throwing a free extra bucks towards their favorite game. They are, by definition, a PREMIUM product.

You get some extra stuff, usually status things to show your friends, and you pay whatever they ask.

People can do whatever they want with their money. You know that, right? I´m so sick of the selft-righteousness attitude that many people have on forum, telling others what do with their life or their money. It´s not your life or your money, so stop trying to tell people what to do.

How is that worth 10 extra $/€?  You know what, Bioware and EA didn't want to make the collector's edition available for me.  Fine.  But the next best thing isn't the Deluxe edition, which is a blatant rip-off, but just the standard edition of the game.  I see people crying over not getting to order a PC Deluxe edition.  Honestly, I feel they're better off, but I guess that's just my opinion.

So what do you get in these versions? What does the collectors edition offer that the Deluxe version doesn't? And what do you mean the collector's isn't available to you? Is it not being released on the platform you are playing on? Not being released in your country or was it only available in limited quantities?

Looking at it the Deluxe edition just seems to filled with what would have been pre-order bonuses for other retailers if EA didn't buddy up with Gamestop.

All this digital content should be able to be acquired naturally in the game anyways, I hate this practice : v

If this practice means I get content that they didn't have the time or budget for during development, I'm all for it.

Meh, different items have different values to different people. Personally, ingame items have much more value to me than physical ones do, since I'm not going to have a map and "war pieces" or whatever spread out on my coffee table. I am, however, going to skewer one of those furry fox/rabbit hybrid things on my giant flaming sword of doom.

Ingame value, right to its fox-rabbit spleen.

Must. have. Every. Last... ITEM!!!

I'm kind of a perfectionist in this regard, with games that I like.

So it's simple, if I like a game, I'll buy every bit of DLC, if I don't, I don't. I don't see why the OP can not make this decision for himself. It's more than fair. And they didn't include anything crucial this time around, so... why is this topic still existing?
