The more I think about it, the more the Deluxe edition seems to be a ripoff

We don't know what the "Bonus digital content" is.  It could be a substantial DLC, though it won't be a companion.

Wouldn't it be hi-LARIOUS if the warden and hawke only showed up via this bonus content?

Oh... the raging it would bring!

You can download from Youtube.

The quality is also bad if you do that, not to mention. Illegal.

To me it does seem like a rip off.

A sound track + In game items: 5 weapons, 2 Horses, 1 chair, 1 suit of regular Armour & Horse Armour(TROLL) for €10...

A steel case or something would be a nice touch.

Hope the Additional Digital content is a relatively small, inconsequential DLC like return to Ostagar. Where you go back to ground Zero or some **** I don't know.

The problem for me is the Ingame items don't seem worth it seeing as I don't care about the soundtrack (Which is prob accounts for €5 of the €10 price tag)

As echoed by other people, there is 'additional digital content' to come, only when that has been released should judgement on the extra money from standard to digital deluxe/ physical deluxe be made.

I personally will be pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe as soon as the System requirements have been released.

And the reality is, that the people, who create the game (call them the bottom end of the food chain), will not receive one more cent. If you buy the normal version, they will get their payment and with the more expensive version, they will get the same payment.

If they earn more money, then the people, who don't deserve it, will pocket it.

Of course it's a ripoff.  That's what collector editions are, it just comes down to are you willing to shill out extra money to support your favourite companies, who if you do decide to support them will continue to ask for more money because that's just how the world works.

To me 10 dollars is meaningless, I'll pay that without hesitation.  I on the other hand seen the price of the Inquisitor edition and laughed.  No sane person would spend that type of money on a few toys that are worth no more than a few dollars.  I've seen happy meal toys more interesting.

Not all of them, many of them are an investment. I could sell my Aiden for twice what I paid for the package and still keep the game. Digital collectors editions, those are ripoffs.

It is kind of a bummer the way games are almost exclusively digital now, and even if you elect to purchase a physical copy, all you get is the disk.

This isn't a criticism of Bioware. Pretty much everyone in the industry is guilty of doing it, and I understand the rationale. Digital sales equal more profits for the developer and less overhead.

This is really going to date me, but I remember when you could purchase games like Might and Magic VI for $50 and you would get a thick manual, a cloth map, and a huge box that was painstakingly decorated.

If you want a cloth map now, prepare to shell out $170 + for the collectors edition. No thanks.

I don't really care how the money is distributed, that's not my job. The point is though that when products sell well the companies and people who make them tend to make more of them, and that is something I would like to have happen, so $10 more is not a big deal for me.

OP has a point, It is a rip off in my opinion... But most don't see $10 more a deal breaker. I am personally getting it because I want to get the most out of my gaming experience. This is becoming a scary trend in gaming, with microtransactions happening more and more. if enough people object things may change. But in the meantime, I feel like i'm getting ripped off, but I don't think $10 more is a deal breaker that I hold myself off extra content to make a point. Plus i'm interested in the "unnanouced content" yet to be revealed with the Deluxe edition.

Isn't there also a still yet to be revealed piece of content that is included with it? Might be a small mission DLC, since they're not doing day 1 companion DLC.

But it will be a big deal, when they decide in the future that 10 dollars aren't enough, because people like you are willing to pay more.

Like in case of e.g. Sebastian DLC in DA2. People accepted it and as result we got the Javik DLC ripoff in ME3.

Now that is odd.  You know you're being ripped off and yet to do it anyways.  You call it a scary trend and then consciously justify it.

Personally, I don't see how not getting a couple extra mounts and an uncomfortable looking chair is impacting my "getting the most out of my experience."  Now if it was something like Javik, something important, then I would be more inclined to agree and disdainfully pay the price.

I keep reading this, and I keep having /facepalm moments when I do. Javik brought absolutely nothing to my first playthrough of ME 3. After Kasumi and Zaeed in ME 2, I ignored him unless the story sent me to his quarters.

Don't buy it, I'm not going to either. Just get the regular version and stop encouraging people with bad business practice (looking at all you who pre-orders).

That's the thing, these gaming companies know they can charge 10 dollars for what amounts to possibly 2 dollars of content and people will eat it up because 10 dollars is nothing.  It's just going to keep getting higher and higher, wouldn't surprise me at all to see the non toy collector editions going for a solid 100 or so before the current get ends.

DLC and Microtransactions will also likely go up, wouldn't surprise me at all to see the armor and weapon packs of Inquisition to be 5 dollars instead of the regular 2 of past BioWare games.  The story missions, probably 20 or so, maybe they'll copy Skyrim and charge 22 so Xbox users have to buy the 40 dollar card instead of the 20 dollar card.

Not looking forward to the future of gaming prices, but I know that I'm part of the problem, anybody who pays more money than what something is worth is part of the problem, right now it's all oh who cares about 5 dollars, who cares about 10 dollars, it's meaningless i pay more for lunch etc etc.  A year from now I wonder if myself and the people like me are going to be saying the same thing when it's 20 or 30 dollars we pay for trivial garbage.

It will hit a price ceiling. The price increase will be considered trivial until its not considered trival. Then few enough people will buy it that the company will adjust their typical prices accordingly. Hello, free market.

As a general rule of thumb, I do not purchase DLC or other digital content that is item-based. It doesn't really do anything to enhance my gaming experience, and the modding community usually finds a way to craft new weapons and gear.

Story content is different. I am all too happy to pay $20-30 for a solid piece of writing that expands on the world's lore. So far, Bioware has been pretty good about  sticking to story-based DLC, with a few exceptions.

The idea that people buying a deluxe edition for $10 extra dollars will somehow encourage companies to keep slowly raising the prices on their games is silly.

$59.99 is the standard price, they won't deviate from that unless they want to add extra content with a special edition, like they have for the Deluxe with $69.99

If the prices got unreasonably high they know they would never make enough sales and people would either just not play or pirate. So no, me buying the $70 version is not somehow encouraging EA to stop selling their games at the regular $60.

I find it completely distasteful for folks here to continue assuming that pre-ordering is a bad business practice. I don't pre-order the vast majority of games I buy. I tend not to even buy a game unless proven to be a good game (sometimes despite its flaws) through word of mouth from friends that have similar tastes.

Bioware games, on the other hand, have been a 100% pre-order for me since KoToR. Why? Because they have never once let me down. Not. Once. The games they make appeal directly to my taste in gaming. Rich universes, compelling characters, great storytelling. These types of things are what I like MOST when I play a game, and they never - ever- fail to deliver. Not even Mass Effect 3's convoluted ending had me disappointed in my choice of pre-order. I chose to pre-order because I KNOW there will probably be flaws or things I'm not expecting. I may even be disappointed in some of those things. Yet what I want from these games that Bioware puts out, I always get. So it's always worth it to me.

Now I'm hardly a bioware fan girl. I have been put off by some of their choices. I have found myself disappointed in how some things are handled, and I have zero qualms about bringing my well thought out criticism to these forums if I feel it's required. And occasionally it is. But not once in my gaming existence have I ever regretted a Bioware game pre-order.

As for additional content for "Deluxe" editions and the criticism of people who chose to spend those 10 extra dollars.... it's their money. They could be like me and absolutely be willing to toss the company that puts out games that give us the things we want a little extra cash. If they can afford it, and the extra bits are compelling enough to want to -- it's no body's business but theirs and the gaming companies.

People complain when we get a 10$ day one dlc character. They complain when we don't. Nothing will make them happy, and honestly I'm really just tired of seeing the gross hatred that spews from them. "DAY ONE CHARACTER DLC!? THATS ON THIS DISK ITS A RIP OFF! NO DAY ONE CHARACTERS? THE EXTRA DLC ISN'T WORTH MY 10$ ITS A RIP OFF!!" It's either to much or not enough.

So generally speaking -- if you don't like something, don't spend your money on it. You don't have to. Feel like they did something to warent waiting for reviews or friends to play? that's fine. Don't feel the extra 10$ is worth the DLC? That's fine too. That's why there's a separate option. If someone likes or dislikes something, that's their choice. I personally enjoy the little bit of extra content. I personally prefer downloading my game instead of having to wait in line to pick up a hard copy. I personally enjoy supporting the company that on the whole brings me games that I enjoy.

And if they do something cruddy, I'll call them out. If it ever comes to a point that the cruddy thing is big enough to lose my trust, then I'll stop pre-ordering, and stop buying dlc content.

I think there are two separate groups of people doing the complaining for those things though.  I imagine that the marketing plan is trying to hit some happy medium, but you can't please anyone all the time and the displeased people are often going to be the loudest.  That's just how it is - I don't know that there's anything more meaningful to be read into that.

Personally, I almost never preorder (twice, ever), but when I have it's because there's been some specific extra that I wanted and that would either be higher-priced or unavailable afterwards, so I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other.  That said, I do think it's baffling that someone would decide it was a rip-off in their own terms (since different people might value something like the soundtrack at varying levels) and then still be on the fence about buying it, but hey - their money.
