Just by seeing mods for skipping the fade like this one,

http://modsreloaded.com/skip-the-fade

I can see that some people hate fade.

Why? IMO, It has interesting puzzle/riddle mechanics that makes me think every time I enter it. Also, I found companions' dreams are the best part. Especially when you take Zervan.

Do you hate the fade? share your thoughts

Bit of a long slog for some folks I guess. I didn't really mind it.

Though the filter effect hurt my eyes after a while.

I hated being separated from the squad. Didn't like the fact that it had to be done in a certain sequence. And found it horribly boring as a result. The only thing I enjoyed was the golem form.

Because it's long, it has a tedious maze built into the already long quest, and there's only so many times that you can go through this really long quest before you decide that it's not worth it. Honestly, at least other quests have differing angles and stuff depending on what character that you choose and what choices that you make. They also have interesting environments and you can mix up your party as you go along depending on how you want to tackle stuff.

The Fade? It's the same everything single time. Did I mention that it's long and gives you nothing worthwhile for being long?

The first time, it's okay.

Then it gets annoying, because the shapeshift forms are they same for all chars so you are just repeating the same portion over and over again.

It's just boring.

Also the mod gives you all the stats.

First time is great for me.

Second time is meh, but alright.

Third onward, is the worst part of the game.

Only difference is seeing each companions' illusions.

Thankfully, I don't plan on more than 3-4 profiles (I keep redoing the same one on different platforms, ugh me).

Love the Fade, don't get the hate. They should patch the game so everyone that uses that mod loses 21 stat points. :P

I don't hate the Fade although it's not my favorite, the Deep Roads are.

There might be several reason why folks hate the Fade. First of all, it's disorienting and can be a bit taxing on the brain, and understandably can become boring or repetitive for some. You can't blame a fellow for refusing to memorize patterns for something as non-consequential as a video game, intelligence or lack thereof being irrelevant. In addition to that, for the majority of the sequence, the player is forced to solo, another thorn for folks who might not be interested and/or skilled in combat.

Also there are the hurdles that require tackling matters in separate realms, and then doubling back. You'd find that those who dislike this sort of thing would most probably dislike the Deep Roads and any other Dungeon Crawler for that matter.

As for me, the only time I got mad with the Fade is in my very first playthrough. I was playing at a time when I was supposed to be sleeping, so naturally I was trying to get it over with quickly. Also I was missing my glasses, meaning the Frame Buffer effects were making my eyes bleed, but you know how we gamers get, so I kept at it.

A couple of years and a few dozen playthroughs later, I know the Fade like the back of my hand, so I can simply enjoy killing things just like I would anywhere else, be it in the Elven Ruins or the Deep Roads.

No, they aren't, not by a long chalk. They just look the same from the outside. The combat value of the various forms varies wildly with the Warden's stats, and hence their use in obliterating the enemy.

The versatility offered by the forms should allow any Warden - even a buffer/healer - to eliminate the opposition quickly and without fuss, with a wide range of different strategies even if you've played a similar character before. Slothy is a bit of an exception but there you can have your companions lend a hand if you want. And even with Sloth the forms do help a lot, as can be seen a few minutes later when you have to go against the weaker Uldred without that added power. For me Uldred always drives the point home that I'm a mere mortal again and no longer an unstoppable god of destruction.

What makes the Fade a bit less enjoyable for me is the blurriness, the low enemy density and level (since most of them are nerfed), and that some backtracking seems to be unavoidable. Keeping track of looted fonts can get a bit tedious if you have to replay from the last autosave because of a crash or because you hit a new level while in golem form.

What I find really tedious is Orzammar proper, with the endless running around and swatting of same-sized enemy groups, and the long, boring slog through the Carta hideout. The repetitiousness makes Jarvia's feel much longer than the initial romp through the Circle Tower even though they are of similar length (about 45 minutes for my current solo mage). The Fade seems a lot shorter.

However, I can see how things could get exceedingly tedious, if people just want to get it over with and try to muddle through. This pretty much guarantees that things take much longer than necessary, and makes them feel even longer still. That's what the mod is for, since even runscript killallhostiles would get tedious in such a situation.

P.S.: Blazo's post just came in and made mine a bit redundant... Ditto on everything Blazomancer said, and especially the Deep Roads.

I don't mind short visits, but when stuck in there for longer periods I find the visual distortion effect rather painful on the eyes.

I found it horribly boring. If it went quicker, I probably wouldn't mind. But it just dragged on and on and on. Ugh... The mod you posted was a blessing to me. I still got to do all the companion nightmares but didn't have to do all the garbage in between.

I like it. How many games let you take a tour of the fade, killing monsters and bad guys and turning into a mouse, a spirit, a golem and someone on fire? I mean how cool is that?

Looking forward to seeing what will happen in the fade in DAI

The fade, the carta hideout and the Deep roads must be the most annoying parts of the game. They just drag on and on and.... It's just not fun anymore. Say what you want about DA2, but I liked the shortness of most quests. I never felt like I was being dragged on by an endless dungeon crawl.

Perhaps they are sad they can't go there regulary (like "when you sleep", as the story/lore suggests) and collect MORE, almost free, skill points?

Ordinarily you need to cutt/shoot/blast your way through entire armies to obtain them by exp; while the fade, in short, grants you a "free level", merely for a tiny bit of your patience.

(If the fade was bothersome the Gauntlet's third trial must have been fustrating for the ones who let the fade get to them, Everyone have their preference but in its defence; the fade is decent enough to, atleast, cast some skill points your way for exploring/geting lost in it).  ^_^

There is a super-simple, no-mods-required way to eliminate blurry visual effect. It's built right into the game.

Just uncheck 'Frame-buffer effects' in the video option.

On multiple playthroughs it isn't the most interesting place if you don't like single combat without your team.

I actually find the fade rather unique and underrated. This warrants so many questions as to what exactly the fade is and how it came into being. As well as what could happen to mages if something happened to the fade. Maybe if more was invested into the fade it could be more appealing to most. However I feel it was designed the way it is for a reason. What if the fade isn't as it seems to be? I hope we can see the fades true beauty in DAI or even get a glimpse of the golden city.

I don't mind the Fade, though I also untick the Frame Buffer Effects box so my eyes don't water/strain. Also I'm not particularly fond of any of the companions (except perhaps the Mabari) so it doesn't bother me to run around solo.

All hail TSM. That buffering thing is gone.

Having said that I loathe the fade and having played the game guzzumptyump times I feel perfectly happy to SKIP it. :P

I don't hate it, but after multiple playthroughs it gets tedious. I have to scrape through every nook and cranny to make sure I get the max stat bonuses, codex entries, experience points, etc. Which means I have to revisit every room in every location at least three times, backtrack a million times, keep track of which door I've already been through and which hall I haven't yet gone down, etc.

It doesn't help that the game actually makes you backtrack a number of times already (can't go down this stone door, so have to explore another area to get the golem transformation, finish off that area, then go back to the other area and get through the stone door), so it's easy to lose track of where you've been and where you haven't just to leave, never mind collect all the stuff.

Plus, after a few playthroughs, I don't want to spend forever on each quest. After going up four floors of the Circle, I'm kind of done. I just want to kill Uldred and leave. Having to do this extra long railroaded Fade sequence, which adds another two to three hours of gameplay, every time can just get so old.
