I personally don't mind the Fade sequence. But it does get tedious and feels repetitive after a little bit, but it doesn't bother me that much.
Why does people hate the fade?

Ya it's not that bad, especially since I have instructions on a sheet of how to clear it and get all the bonus stats so it lasts like 45 minutes instead of wandering for 2 hours like the 1st time

Have to love the stat bonuses - but i think its cool having the different forms. But the main attraction is, of course, the dream sequences: rich character stories is what really attracts me to this game.

Those are cool ya, Sten has a neat one:
"Let's go Sten, it's just a dream"
"I know it's a dream Warden. But it's a nice dream"

I do the same thing, but I feel it can get a bit tedious having to consult the instruction sheet dozens of times, and heaven forbid I forget to cross out one destination or cross out the wrong one, then I end up wandering around confused and frustrated over what I missed before I finally figure it out. >_<

Long, boring repetitious dungeon crawl. After playing the game multiple times over the 5 years I've owned it, the Fade gets boring. My daughter loves it, never loses interest in it, but I'd cringe thinking of playing this on console where you are forced to go through it again each time you play because you can't mod it out.
The mod allows you to do all 3 nightmare scenes, the final battle, gives all codices and stat boosts without the agony of the monotonous crawl.
And the buffer effect hurts my eyes. I can barely make it through the mage origin fade story and that's remarkably short in comparison. Thanks, theskymoves for the tip that eliminates that crap. My old PC just had it turned off as a default move (low end video card). My new one showed all that fuzzy crap and I didn't know what was going on.
Now if someone would just invent a 'skip the deep roads' mod, I'd be a happy camper as I despise that long dungeon crawl even more than the fade.

I like the idea and lore behind the Fade. But I don't think it's been executed like a real dreamstate so far. It kind of works, but dreams seem more real.. they play tricks on you. I don't feel that way with the Fade levels enough. The line between reality and fantasy doesn't feel blurred enough for me, as a player.
If we're just talking about the color pallette, yeah, that gets old after awhile too.

I don't mind the fade sequence myself - it introduces some different elements and mixes things up for a while, which is nice in a long game.
That said, the "figuring it out" element is gone on replay, so it's easy to see how it gets tedious for people doing a second (or third, or tenth) playthrough. Add in the fact that the look of it gives some people headaches (and yes, it's easy enough to turn off on it's own, but how many people notice that right off), and the fact that a fair number of people (and often the same ones who do replays) are more interested in companion banter than other elements, and it's simple enough to figure out why people would look for ways around repeating that part.

Because the Warden is mostly alone with just one other (boring) guy rather than the game's awesome cast of companions, almost the entirety of the Fade is focused on gameplay (which is not DA:O's forté), and it's long.

I don't mind the Fade, though I also untick the Frame Buffer Effects box so my eyes don't water/strain. Also I'm not particularly fond of any of the companions (except perhaps the Mabari) so it doesn't bother me to run around solo.
LOL, so you are a loner
I don't mind the fade after figuring it out. but the first couple of times I cried and pulled my hair out.O_o

If you have a character with good stealth and deft enough hands to disarm a 40 XP tripwire then you can shorten the crawl considerably, especially if someone in the party can speed things up with Haste. Just sneak past the opposition and take out whoever blocks the exit. It's funny hearing Leliana talk to herself, though...
Kill mercenaries, kill spider queen, kill broodmother, and you're at the Anvil already. All of the Deep Roads reduced to the juicy bits; the only remaining chaff is some two dozen critter-level grunts in the Anvil area. That's more than 400 kills elided.
Whenever your stealthy scout is in 'dealerted' state (no battle music playing) you can teleport the rest of the party to the location by toggling Hold mode off and on again.
P.S.: the one bit that I do mind every time is the bloody apparatus. A lot of time and energy wasted on killing eight elite enemies for 0 XP, and none of those kills gets accredited either. runscript killallhostiles might shorten things, though...

Have used killallhostiles quite often, had haste (my usual Warden is a mage), but still, hating this part of the game, it feels no matter what I do it's a looooong boring dungeon crawl. Doesn't help that the deep roads feel claustrophobic to me.
I think overall my warden, when the time comes, if she makes it to that point, is just going to take some poison and be done with it rather than go to her calling.

Yeah, basically. Dreams could be a fun gameplay element, but gameplay is lacking in general (not just the Fade).

The fade just seems far too long for what it is, though it has it's good parts, as other people have pointed out (e.g. transforming into a mouse or a man made entirely of fire). There's just too much travelling between the same places again and again and not enough things like the companion dreams. It might've been better if it was in small doses, like when you have to go to the Fade to free the boy from the demon.

I always wondered about the dream part itself for my warden. Wouldn't it be something more akin to Alistair's. Wouldn't she/he be home sucking up to Daddy; chasing the dog out of the kitchen; being rude to Aldous; dangling Oran off the parapet by his ankles; getting snippy with Oriana. Being at Weisshaupt fortress with Duncan? Don't think so.

Yeah, that sucks that our dream is about Weisshaupt.
Like I keep saying elsewhere, the best part about DAO is the personal story.. the origins. And roleplaying from those perspectives. But DAO isn't really about the personal angles. It's about being "The Warden", for the most part. Which is why I like Hawke much more as a character. The personal story is interwoven throughout.
I'm sort of afraid we're going to lose that personal angle with DAI and the "Inquisitor". Like it'll be another "Hero's Tale" type of story that touches more on general themes rather than personal ones.

Tbh I hope that's a mix of both, like many parts of the game seem to be. Personalization like the Warden but more personal angles like Hawke

That would be the ideal, yeah..
The Warden character isn't bad though.. don't get me wrong. It's just that most of the personal stuff is inbetween the lines. They probably just needed more time to flesh them out (and which they could do with DAI). Some DAO origins are better than others as well (Dalish has next to nothing after the intro).

I agree with you almost totally. The thing is that the personal story for m' warden can be mine more than canon. And my headcanon aint nowhere near canon canon. ![]()
Also, just let me say, I love the organic nature of the forum. Starts out one thing and ends up another. ![]()

The fade, I felt was rather tedious and annoying, also I just didn't find any enjoyment out of it. I wanted to get out of that place as quickly as possible.
