I actually did search around quite a bit before asking here.

 

Some of the information is very old, some refer to things that no longer apply after updates, etc. The words weapon, mods, packs, veteran, etc are used very commonly as is binding them together with quotes and such. And when I did find things more recently, one guy will say one pack, and another will say no it's this one. I figured here at least, asking about it now I would have a better chance an up to date answer.

 

I liked the old forum layout better when it was the BioWare social network. Information seemed easier to locate..

 

But in the end it seems like it doesn't matter much. You can buy 20 packs of something and not get anything you hope. Before they kicked the game to the curb it would have been nice if they had released a patch that added automated bonus weekends and some randomized challenges.. And eased up the packs to not constantly give you junk you already have and don't need. Better than getting dry reamed by the RNG.

Speaking of the list. I must be on some early, pre-signature version of it, or perhaps you're on mine. For everyone's posts about seeing you in lobbies or briefly in game I have never run into you (to my recollection). I can only reason that at some point we must have played and left such good impressions that one or both of us used the avoid list.

I play on PC, I rarely see the same person more than once. I think the console crowd makes more use of friends lists and such. PC gamers seem more insular, mostly gaming with closer friends.

 

 

Compared to even a few months ago, it feels like there are far fewer players. Still get good players though, so that's been nice.

 

However lag on average now seems worse than before. It's far more common now for objectives and timers to end as much as 5-10 seconds before they do visually. The other day the evac timer was on something like 7 seconds and it ended. And Scion shots in particular are doing damage before they even show up. I guess with less players in my region (southeast US) it is more common to be placed in games from people across the ocean or somesuch.

Should I buy Spectre packs instead of Veteran packs to unlock uncommon weapon mods (like the AR/pistol piercing mods)? I've maxed the uncommon weapons and seem to be getting Level III consumables in my last 10+ veteran packs instead of mods/gear.

^Yes, or 99K packs. Uncommon weapon mods and uncommon gear typically do not drop from Vet packs.

 

The whole 'buy Vet packs until your uncommons are maxed out' is an absurd concept, that will prevent your from getting rares and URs .. but hey, at least you'll have a massive amount of missiles / gels / ops to use, like hundreds of matches worth (because you can only use 2 per match until you unlock more with rare cards)

I'm pretty sure you unlock un-common weapon mods and gear faster by buying Veteran Packs. On PS3 I started with Vet packs and those things seem to have maxed out pretty fast. On PC I started with 99 Packs and the un-common weapons, weapon mods and Gear are trailing behind this time around. Will know more for sure once I get both accounts to similar hours (PS3 is at like 200hrs, and PC I just broke the 100hrs mark yesterday).

 

But MaxCrushmore is right about winning in the long run with URs by sticking with 99 and 60k packs.

For me maxing out the Uncommon level gear is what took longest on PC.  I had all my Rares and everything else, but I still had Densified Ammo at level II, etc.

 

Aside from UR weapons, of course.

The reason you see that is that MOST of the time people are concerned with their WEAPONS, not all the other stuff. (Even though weapon mods and gear are arguably far more important than better guns.)

 

 

What people say == What they really mean

 

Recruits until you max Commons == Recruits until you max Common WEAPONS

Veterans until you max Uncommons == Veterans until you max Uncommon WEAPONS

etc.
