I find modern party mechanics to be -dumbed down- when compared to games like Baldur's Gate. S'pose I love to micromanage.
It's interesting you say that, because I find that those mechanics make micromanaging effectively really hard in BG1-2.

I'm curious, could somebody explain what all this fuss about Irenicus is about?
Irenicus, hand's down.

Did you not play the game or do you not understand why anyone would pick him?
You should definitely give it a whirl. It's pretty easy to find for cheap on the XBOX at used game stores and pawn shops, and it goes on sale fairly regularly on Steam, I believe (currently 50% off, $7.50).
It's up on GoG too if one wishes for a DRM-free copy, was on a sale a while ago there as well.
Although, to be fair... knowing that Li is the antsgonist takes a bit of thrill out of his awesomeness.
Hardly. The more I look at JE's overall plot, the more I appreciate how slick and tightly woven together it is, the Strategist's place in things fully included.
I mean, it is amazing how even "surrendering" can hearken back to that basic master-and-disciple relationship and thus has its place.

Never played

His voice alone is brilliant
I'm thinking of adding a second question to the poll asking what games people have played. That may be illuminating.
Eh, I've played all the games in the poll but I dunno.
There's mainly 2 of them that stand out in a negative way for me. Melissan because she...well sucked and was way too transparent from the start (even Gromnir wasn't fooled!). And Maugrim because he's dull...I honestly can't even remember what he was about.
All the others are at the least decent. The ones that stand out somewhat for me are Sarevok, and that's mainly because he was my first (Bioware villain that is), and Irenicus because...David Warner.
No Balthazar? Too bad.
I voted for Loghain, because to be fair, DA:O is the only Bioware game I've ever played as yet. Still haven't beaten it after like, 6 months. It's been sitting on my Pile of Shame, unfortunately, although I've been putting in an effort lately... but I'm going off topic now, so yeah. +1 vote to Loghain.
Added the second question.
I thought it might be interesting to compare the spread of Bioware experience to the voting for antagonists (You will have to recast your original vote to vote in the second question)
I voted for Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2.
I think you should have included Dragon Age: Awakening and The Architect and The Mother. I'd probably choose The Mother if you had, 'cause I like her design. Dat creepy mouth.
Fair point! I honestly forgot about awakeningI voted for Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2.

Li, of course.
The surprising part is that so few of us have played all those games.

Well, I think quite a few people on these forums came in with Mass Effect and DA. Its also not terribly surprising that the older Infinity Engine games have fewer players here, those were more niche games. Knights gets a lot because, well, its Star Wars, but Jade Empire was sort of left out in the cold as Bioware's first stab at an RPG without an established IP to back it up.

Not being around earlier is their loss unfortunately.
Shouldn't we add Revan as well?...

Spoiler
Well, in the story of the game proper, only Malak was around to do the antagonizing.
Something worth thinking about is: what makes an antagonist?
Bhaalspawn?
Darkspawn?
Something-else-spawn?

I always knew Barkspawn was hiding something...

Barkspawn gnaws something, Bhaalspawn gnaws someone ![]()
Haven't played the older games, so I had to pick Malak.
Edit: How come Sun Li (Jade Empire) has 42 votes, but only 18 have played that game? My arithmetics may be off, but I'd still say something does not add up.
