Now, while I agree with most of it, in the books there's a clear distinction between Cole being a murderer and Cole (potentially, it's debated even in the books) being merciful. He has the mind of a child so to him that's a lot of grey area. Now, Cole could only be seen by specific people: Spirit mediums, people wishing to die, and people in the fade with him. So yes, in his eyes the murdering is mercy killing as they already wish to die. But, that gets discussed so much more in depth by the end of the book.

Not saying I disagree as I find Cole rather odd... Not sure how I feel about him yet really... But I'm willing to give him a chance in Inquisition as we might get to delve deeper into his character.

I think for me the biggest sort of...turn off, if you can call it that...is that people seem legitimately to feel that Cole is just adorable. Poor little guy who just needs someone to love him...and it just really, really weirds me the **** out.

Now granted, maybe he'll be less Mary Bell and more misunderstood teen dreamboat when paired with a voice but....

I think he's an interesting character, no offense to DG or anything. I just don't see why people would want to give him cuddles.

Kinda reminds me of Carl from The Walking Dead (comic book version, not TV)

I definitely agree with the whole not wanting to give him cuddles. Honestly, I feel like my inquisitor might be more of a counselor to him than a mother-like figure/best friend. I think they already stated he will not be a romance option due to the implications of him being a child and in a situation similar to dead/possessed/spirit/demon-thing. So, yeah, I don't feel the urge to cuddle this kid, but listen to his story I can do.

But I'm pretty sure they announced no romances for him, at the very least. (Wouldn't it be hilarious if I were wrong on that one?)

Listen, we all want to die sometimes ....*when arguing with our wives*  *cough*, but you shouldn't kill someone because of that feeling, (you don't even know them) it goes away. Its not mercy, its a horribly insane addiction. He wants to believe its mercy so he can continue killing. Disgusting.

Heck I'm a berserker, I want to die when I'm fighting, when I'm angry, but I don't wanna die....Cmon!!

Hahaha! I do suppose there's a fair point here, but that's a direction the books take. Is it really right to do so, even if they want to die, or is it still morally wrong.
Cole kinda seems to lack a developed moral compass, which might make for interesting party banter!

But alas, it is true...the way of a beserker is never easy.

I always wanted a companion who would approve of me using the murder knife.

I wonder if he'd approve the use of murder knife on him... i really hope it's a possibility early on in the game.

The Inquisitor is accompanied by the most influential companions. A Circle Enchantress, a Seeker, a Qunari agent, a Tervinter mage, a Varric, a friend of Red Jenny, a Grey Warden, a fade expertise mage, and

an emo...ghost?

take away the views of his fans and think about his background for a second.  He is a spirit/demon from the fade that gained a corporeal form in the real world without seemingly possessing anyone. that happened before the giant hole in the sky too. He may not have political or social influence but his existence is an anomaly which is in some way unique. I think his disheveled appearance fits his background too. He didn't really learn about how to fit in with society and he is invisible to most people. I think that excuses his apparent lack of concern about his appearance.

Doesn't mean he should kill people based on depression.

I like to think of him as my little brother. My demonic, serial-killing little brother. Who needs cuddles and chocolate.

Lmao funny.

He looks like a drug addict. I haven't yet read the novel he's in (just ordered both Asunder and Masked Empire as they are the two I haven't read yet) so I know next to nothing about him except what's on the Dragon Age site, but I'm not really liking what I see so far. Like some others have joked, he looks way too emo. lol

Nope, not even Cole knows why he's invisible and people forget about him. It torments him, really. He kills people because he thinks it keeps him from fading away entirely, because they can see him just before he kills them, reaffirming that he exists.

I get the feeling. I actually agree. The extent of the adoration thrown his way took me off guard, though I've sort of determined I want to take Cole under my wing somehow.

Once I saw the eyes and the dark shadows face any want of cuddling him went out the window. He need love but he's still creepy.

I just really can't grasp the concept of people wanting to 1) romance Cole, 2) think Cole is attractive, 3) think Cole isn't batshit crazy insane, 4) have parental feelings for Cole, or 5) think Cole killed because others wanted to die and so therefore he's not actually a crazy lunatic murderer just a misguided youth trying to do good in a world that's been oh so mean to him.

Okay well you keep on not understanding and ill keep on not giving a **** bout what you think, kay?

I call bullshit because he knew it was wrong when he watched his father kill his mother. He hid, he watched it. He knew it wasn't okay to do it because then he takes revenge. This is exactly why this character annoys me to no end.

Cole looks pretty close to what he should, aka not a pretty boy but a corpse.

There's a difference between right and wrong and acts of servival. If you see anyone kill your parents of course you're going to react one way or another regardless to  your moral standards.

Added, that Cole is not even the same Cole around now. The Cole now is a spirit that took the dead Cole's memories.

I like it. He's not a pretty boy. He's kind of creepy. He's dangerous.  Admittedly, his hair is kind of ridiculous, but I dig the rest of the design. He adds something abnormal to the table that's unpredictable because no one knows what exactly he is. That's more interesting to me than just another human, dwarf, elf, or even qunari. There's a lot of potential for something interesting there, depending on where Bioware goes with it.

Having not read the books, I can't make my own judgement on Cole's reasoning for killing people and whether it's justified. All I have to go on is what other people have said. Given that information, I tend to feel that people are misusing the term 'serial killer'. Unless he's getting some manner of psychological gratification, often times including sexual contact with the victim, out of the so called murders, with a cool down period between each one, he is not technically a 'serial killer'.

I think the morality in killing someone who wants to die/be killed is a very touchy subject that we shouldn't delve into.
