Its a shame that dragons can only be enemies. but wouldn't it be cool if you could ride dragons.

I certainly would love something like that (my user name ought to give that away, LOL).
But Mike Laidlaw's already confirmed (on Twitter, I believe) that they aren't tackling flying mounts this game. And also reiterated several times during the E3 demo interviews that the dragons in this game "want to eat your face".

I imagine attempting to ride a Dragon in Dragon Age would be like trying to ride a Polar Bear in real life. A flying Polar Bear. That breathes fire. I think Dragons are as awesome as the next person, but I'm not sure if it'd fit in with what we know about the Dragons in this universe. They're basically apex predators, from what I understand. I'm not putting my butt anywhere near one of those.

Thats why it would be awsome, and it would be a symbol for the inquisition. Like the grey wardens used to have the griffons, and the inquisition would have it's dragons.

I hope not. I'm tired of every game and fantasy story "befriending" dragons and riding them, reeks of human arrogance always believing to be able to conquer everything nature can throw at them. I just want them to stay the way they are, as apex predators that heed the call of no one.
Having said that, I do want to see a dragon being possessed by a powerful demon. I have no problem if the possessed dragon conversed with/allied itself with the protagonist though.

I meant human arrogance by way of creating stories where a character is always capable of bringing into control what should not be brought into control I mean.

In a sense you do get to ride a dragon (at least sit on one). As I recall, the Skyhold throne is made of dragon bone.

what an interesting topic... in several wikis, the tevinter imperium is said to have attacked the elven empire on the backs of dragons. so, I suppose it's possible.

Remember that the Tevinter have always been fond of blood magic, and that they may have been using it to control those dragons.

Dragons have the intelligence of a Mabari, so they're capable of being loyal and understanding, its their aggressive nature that gets in the way. Nothing besides their aggression implies that they're untamable, hell the cult in the Frostbacks tamed them just fine.
Call it a hunch, but i honestly feel like we will have a dragon companion in some form, i've already mentioned my idea that if it would serve as a fast travel system rather than a mount with a flying mechanic and also that it would interact with memebers of your inquisition similar to Dog in DA:O

Suddenly the ancient Imperium is slightly more badass.

By "ride" dragons, if you mean doing consensual (or maybe not so consensual) activities with them, then maybe. It is unconfirmed. However, no we cannot literally ride on their backs.

Aren't dragons supposed to be demons in this setting? Getting to ride them would come down to making deals with demons... Nope, do not want.

Er, no. Dragons are just animals. Unusually intelligent animals, perhaps as smart as dolphins, but still natural creatures.
The Tevinter Old Golds also appear as dragons, but they're still not demons.
(It's not clear whether the Old Gods are very powerful dragons that are truly intelligent, or Fade creatures that have possessed dragon bodies or taken on their form, or something else entirely. My money is on option two, but we don't have a clear answer.)
