When he says it may be necessary to elect a new Divine, I don't think that implies that Justina is not dead but that it just may not be seen as important.   How the Chantry come through the events is largely going to be up to the Inquisitor.   However, if you recall Sebastian's horrified reaction that the Maker would allow that to happen to Elthina, imagine the impact it is going to have on the faithful that the Maker would allow that to happen to the Divine.   Couple that with the fact that the Circles have fallen and mages and Templars are running out of control, plus it is literally raining demons from the skies, and you could have a real crisis of faith.   Remember what happened to the faith in the old gods following the First Blight and then the rise of Andraste.    Granted you could encourage people to renew their faith in the Maker by putting their trust in the Inquisition - since green hand indicates Maker's blessing - but you could just as easily deny any divine intervention and consign the Chantry to the sidelines - no longer a political or spiritual force across the width of Thedas.   If it is reduced to simply a locally important religion where people still follow it, then there is no need for a Divine.

That would be freakin' awesome if it could be done, and I'm all for it.

I think the matter of the Chantry succession will only be brought up at very late stages of the plot. I only hope we get the chance to reform the Chantry or dissolve it entirely.

I'd rather dissolve the chantry, lots of bad has been and is being done because of it and the good which is done in it's name could be done regardless.

The setting would be as interesting IMO if the Chantry was written out of it.

Agreed. But I don't see that happening given how they are involved with the tensions that created the crisis, plus the fact that the Inquisition used to be a part of the Chantry. I just hope that the game allows me to be as apathetic to the Chantry as I can be, allowing it to be either dissolved or sidelined. Also hoping for a chance to dissolve Orlais between Ferelden and Nevarra, though it's unlikely that it'll happen.

I say bypass electing a new Divine and let the Chantry fade away. To quote a certain dark haired sorceress, "Fools. Praying for help from a prophet they burned and a god who has turned His back on them not once but twice." 'Tis a silly religion.

Pretty sure Andraste is watching from the Maker's side in disgust.

Or she's watching from Flemeths hut.

Just saying. Could happen.

Or she's not watching anything because the afterlife is BS

That could be true too

Though from a story writing perspective it'd be more interesting if rather than either be exactly as the chantry says or not existing at all, the maker would be something pretty special but ultimately explainable by "science". Or if the maker is literally The Maker, he'd be something either unexpected or cynical, like being female (maybe even Andraste herself), or not giving a flying f*** about Thedas like god in Supernatural

The maker has explicitly not given a **** about Thedas like twice in the chant. Once long ago but then Andraste made him change his mind, then he got pissed again when they killed her and won't come back till they spread her words across the planet.

I mean like there could be a supreme creator being who's nothing like the chantry's maker and it never gave a sh!t in the 1st place

anything is possible she is a bard she could either manipulate her way to the top or kill to the saying she was chosen with a fake letter.

I'd say Leliana is the most logical choice to become the new head of the Chantry, she's a hero of the 1st game, soon to be hero of the 3rd game, she was a personal assistant to the soon-to-be-former leader of the Chantry, and of course she's an incredibly 'good' and deeply faithful person, she's not just qualified she's far more qualified than anybody else.  I'm definitely going to make her the head of the Chantry if that is an option, I've wanted to do that for a long time and this seems like it would be the perfect time to do it!

There is no chance she will become divine unless you destroy current chantry and set up new one with her as leader, she is lay sister (lowset rank in the chantry in the chantry) and assassin that did divine dirty work her posistion as left hand of divine don't have any meaning for chantry it is unofficial job (very dirty job).It is like thinking briala will become empress because she worked for her doing dirty job...

she's going to murder chantry mothers and then lie about their wishes for who should lead the church? People will believe letters from suddenly dead chantry mothers saying a woman who isn't even ordained should lead the church?
