MMmmmmmmmmmmmooooooorrrrrrigaaaaaaaan.

The only thing she ever lied (and only by not mentioning it) was the reason Flemeth asked her to go with the Warden. The Dark Ritual was a Flemeth thing and Morrigan may have gone along with it (either because she was your friend/lover and wanted you to live or because she hated you and felt no remorse in helping Flemeth carry out her plan).

Flemeth, on the other hand... I am pretty sure was the cause of most of Kirkwall's problems. At the very least, responsible for the elves and Merrill.

The whole "Enigma of Kirkwall" thing terrifies me because I know down in the cockles of my heart that Flemeth is the one that is going to take advantage of all that yummy blood magic energy the city has been gathering.

Flemeth. She holds back but up till now she's never lied. In fact, she's offered quite a lot of advice to the protagonists. Cryptic advice but advice none the less.

Morrigan. At least she gives a straight answer occasionally, the evil-detecting Dog loves her, and she has her moments of sincerity peeking out from her "chaotic stupid evil" act. David Gaider himself has confirmed that she secretely has a very good and noble heart, but she was raised (by Flemeth) to believe that goodness and nobility are weaknesses, and that strength are all that matters in this world, so she actively tries to suppress it. She also likes to be mysterious, and will often say zag when another person says zig even if she's thinking zig too. But, I don't think it means she's full on evil.

If anything, I think it's mostly an act. I don't think she's nearly as evil or chaos-loving as she pretends to be, and I'd rather someone who is not as evil as she pretends over someone who is not as good as she at first pretends. (Flemeth, who saved the last two heroes in the last two games but fully admits to kidnapping, raping, torturing, dismembering men, and leaving bodies hanging from trees in pieces in her past.)

Neither are really very trustworthy, but if I had to be in one of their camps, I'd go with Flemeth's.

Neither? Is Neither an option? Even my wardens that became Morrigans friends didn't trust her. And my inquisitor has no reason to trust either her or flemeth. Unless flemeth saves us at the beginning again, then they have a slight reason to trust her.

I concur. Also, your profile pic takes the cake. Nathyrra is one of my favorite RPG characters :)

I trust Morrigan, she's not genuinely bad, even though she has this dark persona it's all a facade. Flemeth raised her to be compassion-less, but she somehow beat the odds and developed feelings (friendship, even romance) for the warden. The dark ritual was Flemeth's, and Morrigan only wanted to do it to save the warden's life + have a kid, a really really powerful kid. She only went into that other dimension in Witch Hunt probably to protect her child from Flemeth.

Flemeth, on the other hand, wanted the dark ritual to have the old god for her to raise into something she could probably control.

Also, there's the Forbidden Ones and one of them is "The Formless One" - I feel like that describes Flemeth so well. Because she changes bodies to extend her lifespan, and she can obviously change into a dragon.

Morrigan. She's sneaky but will probably be the most well-meaning. Flemeth will probably be even more blunt and truth-telling, but have worse designs on the world. Or it is subjective. Whatever :P

Exactly, Flemeth can be as openly honest as she sees fit since she's clever and powerful enough to squash anyone who gets in her way. Morrigan on the other hand is just a powerful apostate mage that happens to know more arcane lore than normal mages.

Flemeth. because i know she can be manipulative, but usually for the right reasons. she's not evil, more like she believes in the balance. and tries to hold it. an old-school druid of some sort. she's wise, cunning and insane. that's always a good mixture. and... Kate Mulgrew.

but Morrigan? she left the warden in the eve of the battle ffs

I don't trust either of them, but I get the sense that Morrigan has significantly more dangerous ambition than Flemeth does, if only because Flemeth already has her power and is perfectly content to ignore the world at large. Morrigan wants to control a ruler, and possesses none of the wisdom that even an evil dictator needs: She'd be overthrown in a heartbeat and her ego wouldn't allow her to see it coming.

Flemeth decided to save Hawke for the specific purpose that he would upset the balance of Kirkwall.. I don't think Flemeth is an agent of the status quo at all.

Without Hawke Isabela and Anders wouldn't have been able to do what they do. Without Hawke the Qunari would also have burned Kirkwall to the ground, destroying any chance of upsetting the balance between the Chantry and mages, which I think is what Flemeth was aiming for. Hawke was the catalyst which accelerated all these events, and Flemeth saw that.

If anything Flemeth is an agent of chaos. She wants to tear down the present to return to the ways of the past. That is at least the vibe I get from her.

soo... let me understand this. Flemeth helped Hawke to get to Kirkwall. If it weren't for Hawke, the Kirkwall would be doomed and there would be no conflict between mages and Chantry. if she had forseen all that... i mean, wow.

I believe Flemeth is very knowledgeable and she even may interpret certain patterns but i wouldn't call it clairvoyance yet, especially to a degree she sees an apostate mage ex-warden blowing up the chantry in about 10 years or so. there are too many variables not known in the moment she meets Hawke (from lyrium idol, people she/he meets on the journey, to side she/he'd pick in the conflict)

She knew that Loghain would betray Maric three times before he died (Loghain). So I would say that Flemeth is quite knowledgable about what the future holds and even how the different possibilities for the future may play out. She also seemed to have full knowledge of exactly what Hawke would go through in his years in Kirkwall: "Hurtled into the Chaos, you fight.. and the world will shake before you".

There would still be conflict between mages and Templars without Hawke, but it would not have escalated out of control.

Indeed it could. But given the context we see later, it is obvious what was meant.

Neither, they're both completely untrustworthy in any realistic sense.

Why wouldn't the Mage/Templar war have flared out of control without Hawke? Anders blows the chantry whether Hawke helps him with it or not, and whether he helps cull the Kirkwall mages or makes his escape with them doesn't impact the fallout for the rest of Thedas. Also, which three betrayals are you talking about, exactly? I can't think of any, and it's easy to foretell anything so vague as general upheaval. From where I'm standing, it's genuinely ambiguous whether Flemeth actually knows what she's talking about.

huh, everything is a speculation at this point. Anders could have been captured whilst trying to meet with Karl or later. and Varric gives Blondie protection (i don't remember exactly, from Carta? paying them off or something?). and conflict escalated because Meridith went cookoo. maybe if there was no idol in the first place, she and Orsino would've reached some kind of compromise... but then Anders is a taffy abomination with skewed/twisted view, so he's bound to destroy all sources of mages' oppression,

who knows?

Yes, but if there's no guarantee that the series of events relied on Hawke being there at all then you can't possibly credit him with the results. I can't claim to be the reason you're still alive because you might have left the building and gotten hit by a car if you hadn't been reading my comments. The cause of the Mage/Templar war is the templars' treatment of mages, catalyzed through Anders. Hawke barely had anything to do with it, and nothing directly.
