I don't believe I've ever used flare. Most of the time I use reave  and the rest of the time I use lash for a bonus power

I use flare on my adept largely to make adept feel as powerful as it should. Adepts are supposed to be the biotic masters, but vanguards feel more powerful in general. Giving my adept a power as impressive as flare evens it back up a bit. Lash just doesn't feel as powerful, even if it might very well be the better power. And I don't see my vanguards using it either since their main weakness is they have no primer-and-detonator-in-1 in the form of warp, so they pretty much require reave as their version of warp to be effective. I suppose if I ever cared to do a sentinel playthrough then lash would be a good choice for that one (they don't have enough crowd control biotic abilities, the opposite problem vanguards have), but that's the 1 class I've never cared much for.

The few times I've used lash was for the laughs especially when fighting Kai Leng

I use Flare for it's large radius, I don't really play on anything above Normal.

If Kai Leng does fall off the map, the fight does get bugged.

I haven't experienced him falling off the map, but I had him on Thessia get stuck on one of the benches where he wasn't able to get up and do his recharge thing. I ended up exiting out the game and reloading.

Hahaha! Yeah, that's what happens. Which is a reason why I don't take Lash or use it on him.

Hah, if only the game glitched and unlocked the supermegaultra-secret ending where Shepard successfully gets the data and the Crucible docks, whatever option is picked for the galaxy, and post credits, Kai Leng is still stuck on Thessia.
