I hated killing those bears in Origins, my Ranger respected nature so I just kind of avoided as much of the chaos as I could
please Bioware let out Dalish Keeper pc talk to animals so they wont get hurt
When Sigrun smells some dirt and Velanna asks why, Sigrun says "Aren't Dalish close to nature?" Velanna replies "Figuratively!!"
When you're living out in the wilds, you're essentially just another species. You need to kill animals, eat them, and use every last piece of them to make something. That's how Native Americans lived, they didn't waste any part of an animals they killed.
So... I think there is a misconception about Dalish Elves. Most high-fantasy elves (Tolkien) are literally close to nature and seemingly vegetarian, but Dalish Elves are still people; they need to eat some meat and get enough protein just like us.
(But who am I to talk, I've played a billion WoW trial accounts and I slaughter every critter I can find when I play a Night Elf, even a druid
