Something strange at the Nexus

Have a lot of them just decided to vote or much better than that have the players that returned to NWN2 for Baldur's gate started working their way through the list ? Either way it's strange but rather amusing to watch and could be a sign that NWN2 is increasing in popularity which is a very good thing indeed.
So get your modules on the Nexus if you haven't already !

Yesterday I happened to see what the reason for that is. There was a news post about a new reminder system they put in place, so now people get reminders about files they've downloaded and not yet endorsed, with the option to either endorse or abstain.
Of course, the summer sales have probably contributed to it too, with new people getting NWN2.

Yes, that was my experience as well. Previously I was having difficulty even getting the endorsement system to work, so it's a good improvement. Now if only they would show the full permission settings...

Same with me, I was asked to endorse all the files I had downloaded. TLoS has had a few more endorsements as well ![]()

I don't know if mine have seen any new endorsements, since I don't remember what the numbers were last time I looked.
What are these full permission settings you mean, Bob?

When I first upload a file, there are some check boxes to set the various permissions, such as whether you can migrate it to other games or create fixed versions. Afterwards, I can't view these settings under the perms tab or anywhere else.

Those are under "Edit attributes" to change them. To view them, click the "Perms" button under the file's thumbnails.

Nope. All you see are the text entries; not these settings:
- Users can upload my files to other sites
- Users can convert my file so that it works on similar games
- Users can modify my file; including releasing bug fixes or improving on the features my file adds to the game, and upload it as a separate file
- Users can use assets contained in my files in their own files

All I see is this:

Maybe there's something about my configuration...

All of mine show the permissions I chose, and I don't know why yours don't, so I can only suggest setting yours again.

Just by opening the front page and/or logging? I'm not seeing anything.

It happens randomly, but it will happen for sure on the download screen when you start to download a file, unless you change your settings to prevent it.

That's probably because you're such a decent fellow and endorse everything you download.. Well done.

Yep, I noticed this when I logged in to check some stuff, and got the popup reminder to endorse the files I'd been downloading.
I thought it was a great tool; simple, easy to use, so I checked off the stuff I really liked and ignored the rest.

Yes that would be a helpful system.

I've just been on the nexus and it is certainly a useful resource.
However to do anything but upload and download or to rip out the ads that slow my PC to a painful page update rate, costs money.
I don't begrudge the people who run it reasonable wage for the work they do and the rates are not unreasonable ... but.
[Edited 22:47 - this statement was not true]
The vault II is ours and it's free. It's going to have all our work on it and it already has forums, is add free and does not cost money to participate in all its coolness.
Might I suggest to anyone considering spending money on web usage for NWN2, they donate some to vault II. Then the happy few that run the place don't have to dig into their own pockets and we keep this very cool and unique home space for many years to come.

What are you saying costs money aside from removing ads? The forums certainly don't cost money. What else is there to do on such a site other than upload, download, and participate in forums?

Hmmm, I cannot post on forums nor can I read PM's it says I do not have the permission. I can only post on discussion threads on my own modules. Perhaps I am missing something.
Many of the NWN2 threads seem to be started by the site bot, though Tsongo has a thread going
I'm certainly not saying the Nexus is bad value no that it is of no use (it gives modders visibility and we are lucky to have had access when we did). I am saying that, as a community, investment in vault II will help to ensure its longevity. I for one, if I were going to put some money into the NWn2 community (which I have and will) will focus on the Neverwintervault.
PJ
[Edit] I see now that I have to log in twice to get to the forums and messages so I have edited my original post.

The Nexus probably gets a lot of more support from more active communities like Skyrim.

"Site bot" is credited as the creator of the feedback threads that are automatically created for any file uploaded there.
As you've discovered, the forums and the file section require separate logins.
Personally, I prefer not to put all my eggs in one basket, so I won't support one place to the exclusion of another. I've always told people to upload in multiple places.

Nor should we but I feel that the NWNII vault deserves our support since we have invested time and effort into it creation (some more than others, I can take no credit). Our history resides there now (or will soon) in a way I doubt it ever will on the nexus.
That said, Mr Kipp is good for a while on the site fees and has closed the donate button it seems ![]()

Of course. I do support Rolo's Vault, have actively participated in its content, and also supported it behind the scenes when it was getting started. But I don't advocate saying that another site will never have as much heritage or worth. There's a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy if people hear that there's not as much stuff in one place, so it's not worth their time. If they hear and believe that, then their work is one more thing that won't be there. That sort of thing caused people to put their stuff only on the original Vault in the first place, or even to stick with NWN1 since NWN2 isn't worth their time, since it has so much less custom content, and so fewer modules, etc.
