Strongholds play a vital role in spreading the influence of the Inquisition throughout Thedas. They can be used to keep the locals in check, fascilitate trade, or establish extensive spy networks.

I'm curious, how do you all plan to make use of these bases?

Will you try to dominate others by accumulating great wealth and controlling the exchange of goods?

Would you rather be more clandestine, utilizing the keeps and Leliana's influence to manipulate others, becoming in effect the Thedosian equivalent of MI6?

Or do you prefer the more direct route, marshalling large armies and exploiting Cassandra's love of table stabbing?

Knowledge is power.

I'll build a full fledged spy agency with a few well placed forces.

spy network as my main priority

trade posts and military posts will be about equal

spy network takes priority due to knowledge of enemy movements and placements, as well as information on high ranking figures who could possibly be a threat to the inquisition.  As schreckstoff said above, knowledge is power.

trading posts are important, money is going to be something we really need to strengthen the inquisition, but if i can get by with having a few strategically placed troops thanks to info from my spy network instead of having to send a bunch of troops in, i can afford to lose some cash.

military outposts will be on par with trading for the same reason, now if im in an area that has a lot of bandit traffic, or a dangerous area, or a place of significant importance, then i might put a military outpost over a trading one.

I like money to buy things. Scribbles will probably be my go-to gal. With a few soldiery ones to get me better access to caves and explorable areas.

Sorry spies, I'm sure you're very useful but you aren't MONEY

Spies first, with some military to back it up. I doubt I'll bother with trade much.

I wish I could be like Vivienne and take diplomacy to a whole new level. She and I would conquer thedas with our words and brains while looking fabulous as well.

There'd be so much back-stabbings, black mail and political maneuvering. It'd be amazing.

I think I'm going to go with money first. I imagine Varric will be especially useful on that front. If I'm to be leading a military campaign, I'm going to need an inordinate amount of resources/artillery.

Probably base my decisions on what suits the area best. i.e.: near trade route = merchant base, etc.

I'm going to War with my Warrior, Trade with my Mage and Spy with the Rogue. It's as simple as that.

trade - well, chantry did that already, to some extent at least, controlling lyrium. and that was the best route to have influence over mages/templars. i assume it goes hand in hand with politics

spies - eyes and ears everywhere. assasinations, planting evidence and all that

military - yeah, it's a waste of resources... this type of advantage would work only for mindless enemies. like red templars, demons and such. oh wait.

i think i'll choose Leliana's way for my 1st PT. or trade route. military seems boring.

Qunari Military Commander

Army first then finances. Military dominance can acquire currency through conquering and plundering enemy strongholds, enough to maintain the dominance so i can establish a steady income for the inquisition, without the strength to take and hold certain places, you dont have a presence therefore making you weaker in the grand scheme of things along with not allowing you to establish steady trade to rack up gold.

A spy network is a very useful branch but i dont think its necessary compared to the other two, though again thats not to say it isnt very useful.

Heh, I'm a fan of all three!
I'm looking to be bring some good old fashioned dwarven "hospitality" down on the painted fops heads!
We're gonna lie, cheat, swindle, crack some skulls, get drunk, and line our pockets with gold!
Then tomorrow we're gonna do it again!

This is going to be my character's perspective as well. She's a dwarf and proud to be one, going to show the rest of Thedas what real buisness looks like.

My Inquisitor will be a bit too busy closing rifts to make economic warfare, conquer half of Thedas or try his hand at the spy game, at least at first. When the main quest is dealt with I think he'll "spread the influence of the Inquisition" in the most logical way possible at any given time, so I guess it'll depend on what exactly he's trying to do and how things work in any particular region.
