In Origins we had Wynne

Awakening and DA:2 gave us Anders

Who will be the Inquisition's Healer???

I'm kinda leaning towards Solas. Since the previous 2 were Spirit Healers, they had some kind of relation with the Fade, and Solas IS our Fade expert...

Could be Dorian though. Why hurt others when you can heal? I definitely don't see it being Vivienne.

Thoughts?

I say Dorian a part of his "not what you'd expect in a Tevinter magister" thing

There isn't a Spirit Healer specialisation in DAI. We don't know how they're handling healing magic, but there probably won't be one companion specialised that way this time.

Considering you don't regenerate health in between battles, healing magic the way we are used to would just be cheap.

It LOOKED like there was some temporary hit points going on in the demo with the dragon. But hard to say for sure.

True. But I don't see them removing an entire mage lifestyle from the game. Plus I think removing conventional healing, forcing players to just carry a billion poultices around  is more of a cheap move lol

At this rate, I'll probably start working on alchemy so I won't need a healer to take around.  It's just way too early to tell who starts with what (in other words, who might have the Creation tree handy,) although I have already eliminated Vivienne.  Her disposition doesn't quite fit with someone that would be a healer (unless forced to,) and I'm already curious about her abilities as an offensive mage.

Viv should totally be a debilitator mage, forcing her opponents to succumb to her political prowess!

I actually liked Companions having their own distinct trees hope they'll keep that from DA2

As I remember from the demo, "Spirit" tree now includes at least some healing, and as one of the basic trees, it was available to Vivienne.

I believe that all mages have access to basic healing.

Companions may or may not have companion-specific trees. The loss of the Spirit Healer tree *for the PC* is a good thing. I played a Spirit Healer for my first Hawke and the term lackluster doesn't begin to describe the experience.

To answer the original thread question: Vivienne will be my healer.

I THINK they said that all skills are available to all companions. I've seen screens of Cass as a sword and board and a two hander. As well as the original 30 minute demo from last year where they said you can develop her either way (before having her "knock" on a Keep door).

From the latest E3 video, like I said, some blue temporary hit points were happening and it wasn't the Qunari Mage. She was blasting offensive spells.

They haven't said that all skills will be available to all companions. They've talked about the ability to customize your followers so all warriors can use 2-handed or sword and shield, rogues can be dagger or bow based, or mages can pick up any of the basic trees.

That doesn't tell us what specializations will be available to them though.

If it is like DA2, I may not require a dedicated Healer. Once I became proficient with the spells and mechanics, as long as at least one Mage had Heal, that was fine.

We know it's not like DA II in two important ways:

1) No full health/mana regen after a battle.
2) Open world where we can meet creatures above our level.

in Until We Sleep, according Maevaris Tilani, a magister and in-law to Varric, some dalish and a magister exiled to the Anderfels had the ability to graft spirit unto flesh in order to restore life. Unless Solas is as dalish as they come, I'm gonna have to guess that Dorian is the aforementioned healer

I imagine you could spec any mage to be a healer, no?

If not, I hope that Dorian falls into that category, since I was planning to drag him along quite a bit.

Push comes to shove, I could always just be the healer myself, since I plan on playing as a mage anyways.

Sir Pounce a Lot. Though, I do hope that if one of the companions is not a healer we still get the spirit healer talent.

I find healing to be a boring thing for mages to specialize in for some reason, so I'm hoping I'll be able to forego a dedicated healer all together.

I don't think anyone is being "specced" as a healer--didn't the devs say we could customize companions the way we wanted?

That said, if there was one who fit the healer archetype the best, I'd actually go out on a limb and say Dorian--the irony of a mage from a nation of war using healing magic is just too good. Plus, Viv's personality is very far removed from that role, and something tells me Solas isn't going to fit it either.

I think you can chose heals for most of your mages, otherwise you would have to keep the one with heals in party all the time (or play in some really hard style). For me I will do my mage qunari a healer and when I'm not mage I'd love Dorian to be the healer.

It's usually my PC. I only take characters based on personality, not combat roles :D
