Solas probably. Wynne over Anders as a healer any day!
So, who'll be our appointed Healer?

At this point, Solas is my guess. Though my mages are always healers/supporters, so in my game it'll be me!

I really hope that we either do not have an appointed Healer or that that Healer has no strong Opinion on anything. That Wynne in Origins was the appointed Healer always prevents me from either siding with the Templars or defiling the Ashes, while Anders... well... I only murderknifed him when I myself was the Healer. SInce I suck without a Healer, I always need them and that prevents me from roleplaying completely in Character.

Hmm? In Dragon Age: Origins, you could have Morrigan as a spirit healer and she did just as well as Wynne.
In DA II, options were restricted as Merrill had access to no healing spells and Bethany ditched you. I played a Spirit Healer my first playthrough. When I switched to a warrior, I used a mod that gave Merrill access to the Creation tree.

Morrigan ditches me, too, if I have any Word in that. But you're right, DA:O wasn't as bad about this as DA:2.

I agree. When playing DAO and DA2, I felt forced to take a party Wynne/Alistair and Anders/Aveline for the best healing and tanking.
Which also forced me to play a certain way, because even when I wanted to do "evil" playthroughs I hate disappointing Wynne/Alistair/Aveline.
The upside of having no companion-specific Specializations means they can hopefully be reset (Maker's Sigh) and learn the right skills to perform a role well. This does make companions feel less unique though...
It never feels right having Sten equipped with a shield+sword, or Zevran with a bow. Or 2H Alistair. etc.

Healers are cool and dandy but it's by far nicer to obliterate the opposition fast enough to not have a need for them on most encounters. (Bosses and dragons might be an issue though)

A good offense is the best defense.

It's definitely not Vivienne. *snorts laughter at the idea of Vivienne attempting to heal anything* I think it's Solas too.

I don't think there will be one, as already pointed out there are heals in the spirit tree now and having a dedicated healer companion would be even more annoying in a game where health does not regen. Hopefully they have made it so any mage can heal enough for you to get by and maybe potions will be better in this game, I know we cant carry as many but they could be more powerful and maybe there is even a revive potion.

My healer will be, as always, Sir Health Potion the Replenishable.

Actually, here you go:
Well, by the looks of it "healing" won't be so much about filling up green bars faster than they get depleted, but preventing damage. I like that.

Otherwise, health potions will be my healer.

I've always assumed that Dorian was the intended healer character. It fits with the whole 'rebelling against everything his country stands for' thing.

Honestly though I am very bad without lots of heals to go around so I will make every mage learn every healing spell they can.

Which is an awesome mindset for games where encounters scale to your level. For games where your opponent might be stronger than you, crowd control and healing are important.

Although for areas weaker than you you don't even need one healer and can breeze through with your all rogue party.
And when I say party I mean PAAAARRRTTYY no dull healers to drag us down.

I am a little disapointed that the Spirit healer Spec was dropped in DAI both my preferred Specs are gone now "Blood Mage + Spirit Healer" in all fairness I hope B-Ware stills gives us the ability to Spec our Magequisitors into very capable Support/Healer characters because I enjoy taking that role myself.
So for me its like this granted my choices depend on what is available/Possable in game.
Support/Healer:My Inquisitor
Offensive Mage:Vivienne
Offensive Mage 2:Dorian
Offensive Mage 3:Solas
Now for my Warrior/Rogue playthroughs I will probably spec Solas or Dorian in the Support/Healers Role.

Probably Dorian, though Solas should know his stuff too. Tevinter blood magic depends on inflicting wounds on yourself or a slave and using that to power a spell, meaning that healing those wounds afterwards is critical for preservation of resources, as is knowledge of anatomy in general. Solas is an elven apostate, so he's had to be self-sufficient and must definitely know how to keep himself healthy and treat his own wounds. I don't know about Vivienne, she probably knows the basics of healing but has a sucky bedside manner and considers it a chore for apprentices and old women, not ambitious young extraordinaires like herself. ![]()
Personally, I think Solas will be my go-to party mage. Dorian can stay behind and freshen us up whenever we return, and Vivienne can walk around doing... whatever it is she likes to do... back at base.

They've already confirmed healing won't be as spam as past games, plus there is no specialization so I doubt there will be one particular party member who's more significantly more capable at healing than the rest. However if I had to guess one who'll be a tiny bit more towards that way, I'd say Dorian.
