Where to get Modules now?

I purchased a new copy of NWN on the GOG summer sale, and am enjoying playing the offical campaign again.  However, as we all know, the real value of this game is with all the player-made Modules.  I was deeply dismayed that the Neverwinter Vault has been taken down.  Links now take you to a Wiki for that horrible Neverwinter MMO - there is no NWN content there at all.  I know about the neverwintervault.org site, but there is almost nothing there, either.  What happened to all those Modules?  The Hall Of Fame, the Forums, and the rest of it, too.  Is it all just gone?

The two remaining sites that I know of are:

Neverwinter Vault (new)

Neverwinter Nexus 1 and 2

Wait, when did the old vault get shut down?  It was working literally like a day ago, maybe two.  Now it seems to be completely gone?

I guess I'd better upload a bunch of modules (that I didn't make) to the new vault so they're preserved.

It was fine a day ago.  And now all of a sudden...*poof*.  Was there any sort of announcement that this would happen yesterday?

Thankfully a lot of stuff was saved in the Neverwintervault.org site.  But gosh...a whole lot of other content though is now completely gone.  Sigh.

I just went to old vault, went to one of my entries and changed the description and the change was reflected in the page.

But it's basically dead http://neverwinterva.../jun/thats-wrap

Damnations!

Last week they disabled my Admin account, though Rolo's still worked, except that he couldn't make mine work xD

So.. RIP Oldie, Long Live the New!

WHERE TO GET YOUR FIX:

What Tchos posted:

Neverwinter Vault (new)

Neverwinter Nexus 1 and 2

Couple more links:

Moddb NWN 1 (+DoD) NWN 2

Premium Modules

GEXE (NWN 1)

Singles:

The Heights of Bastion

Mazama Township

Sohlarious

If that's not enough, we can exchange Modules between ourselves or poke tech guys to migrate the files :D

You can modify your hosts file and add this line to it:

69.10.25.55     nwvault.ign.com

That allows me to still connect with a web browser.

FP!

Worked for me, Werelynx, with nothing other than editing hosts and restarting browser -- your hosts file looks something like this?

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.

#

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

#

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# space.

#

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

#

# For example:

#

#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server

#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.

#    127.0.0.1       localhost

#    ::1             localhost

199.193.152.27  nwmaster.bioware.com    # SkywingL's substitute listing server

198.23.165.35   nwn.master.gamespy.com  # Visavent's gamespy replacement

69.10.25.55     nwvault.ign.com

Editing hosts w/restart navigates fine back to the Vault just like it did without help a few days ago. (btw, on this machine, hosts file resides in folder root:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc for those who'd like to skip the file search).  DL'd a few Vault files w/o issue.

So... now, how exactly did my browser become so dependent in the last few days?  Is IGN using some redirect to by-pass the Vault content now? *scratching head*

I'm trying to update the hosts file, but I don't want to break anything. Can you clarify what program to use? I tried in notepad, but it wouldn't save because it doesn't have admin rights. Any ideas?

Notepad++.  Get it.  Use it.  Love it.

Might also need admin rights on the user account for that file in general.

That only sort of helps. I was able to open notepad as an admin, saved the file and restarted my computer. I also cleared out my history, and cache, but it still opens up to the wiki page.

Does the file still contain your changes when you open it?  Uncheck the Read Only file property if it is checked.

Hosts.txt has the changes I made when I reopen it and read only is not checked.

The original hosts file is still there. Should I delete or remove it?

It looks like exactly the same server configuration error that caused the last Vault outage. Has anyone messaged the IGN admins about the problem (or know who to contact)? They were able to fix it quickly before once they became aware of it.

<wishing he'd brought...>

I'm in the dark myself, Andarian.

There's one rather major difference between last year and this - the vaultnap admin site is also gone this time.

There is simply no more admin access. It is not that I can't log in; there's no page there to log into.

Rolo: It's a difference, but not necessarily a dispositive one. I'm going to try find out who to contact to figure out what's going on. I'll let you know what I find.

OK, I used the "contact us" form on the IGN.com main page to send a message. I think it's going to their editorial rather than tech staff, but it's a start. :)

By the way, if you look at the URL, it's pretty obvious what happened. Someone set up a domain forwarding from the old Vault (nwvault.ign.com) to point to the Wiki for the 2013 Neverwinter game (www.ign.com/wikis/neverwinter). Pages on the old vault were addressed via a script called View.php, followed by a page identifier (e.g. View.php?view=modules.Detail&id=xxxx). That's causing all links to the Vault to resolve to a Wiki page there called "View.php" (since the Wiki's ignoring everything after the "?"). An irate Vault user decided to use that page to elaborate on his frustration. :)

This looks to me like a mistake, and too ham-handed to have been intentional. I'm guessing that it's just another site configuration error, as it was last year.

Ahhh.... the "hosts" file has no extension.  You need to delete the text file you created and edit/save the original system file.  Your browser cannot "see" the version you created.  Notepad should work fine as long as you have your folder and file permissions set and log into PC as administrator.

@Andarian: Thanks for the explanation of how their navigation is set up.  Just a burp then, I guess.

<resorting to...>

Tried to like your post, Andarian, but I've been flagged as too positive and am not allowed to 'Like' anything else today :-P

I do hope you (and OTR) are still right about the old gal. Never *did* wish for her to go.

Just don't have much faith in it lasting. There... a negative comment. Does that give me a like back?

Er, nope.

I added my own exasperation to that page. My momma gonna slap me silly.
