Just tried going to vault and getting redirected to: http://www.ign.com/wikis/neverwinter/

One year ago the vault went down... is this something ign do... take down sites without notice and see if a shitstorm kicks up to determine if people still use the site? Don't recall any notification about this.

Or perhaps just something temporary....???

I guess we'll have to wait to confirm it... but that seems pretty dead indeed. There are similar topics in the NWN1 forum, but apparently, everything in the old Vault is backed up.

I'm not sure, just what I read on the NWN1 forum. I suppose it's related to the new Vault (http://neverwintervault.org), but Rolo Kipp or someone else may be able to give more details.

I'm not redirected, and just made a change to the description of an old submission to see if I could, but it's dead.

Rolo posted on the new vault last week that he's no longer administering the IGN Vault.  It's pretty much only good as an archive now.

It looks like the Vault hasn't gone away (yet), just the DNS entry.
You can still access it by going to %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\
Make a backup of the "hosts" file and then add this entry:
69.10.25.55 nwvault.ign.com

If for some reason this doesn't work you and you want a file of the vault that's not up on neverwintervault.org, shoot me a PM and I'll see if I can quickly reupload it.
Also has there been any word from IGN about this? Because if I recal right the same thing happened about a year ago, but IGN fixed whatever the problem was then.

Intersting. I tried using the IP address in my browser (rather than mess around editing hosts) and it gave me a 404.

However, when i input the IP i get back for pinging (which is probably now the redirected DNS entry) i got a redirect text file, and one line was this:

and found these entries:

nwn2vault.com	http://www.ign.com/wikis/neverwinter
nwvault.com	http://www.ign.com/wikis/neverwinter
nwvault.ign.com http://www.ign.com/wikis/neverwinter

Looks like its intentional.

If I had any idea how to actually contact someone from IGN about this, I'd do it in a minute. So far I've tried sending two PM from forms on the IGN website. No reply as yet. If anyone has an email contact in IGN website tech support, please follow up! (Or let me know, and I'll be happy to do it.)

Lol,

I got to it now using the fix Claudius proposed (putting 69.10.25.55 nwvault.ign.com into the first line of the hosts file)

And guess what, not only does it work but the adds are gone. Just IGN banners now.

I was able to fix the hosts file with the Mozilla plugin, and it works,  but in IE it still redirects.

Did you reboot your browser editting the hosts file?

I got to the vault, but I am unable to download any files.  all downloads link to a page stating the page is unavailable.

Did you reboot your browser editting the hosts file?

Yes. It worked at one point a couple of days ago, but just once (and not in the first try). Next time I got redirected again, and that hasn't changed until now, even though I've tried the fix several times again.

Some security software like Windows Defender will undo edits to the hosts file. So if your edits to it are being removed, you'll have to add the file as an exception. Note that some malware can mess with it and add redirects. So ymmv if you want to do that.
If your edit to the file is not being removed, you can also try closing your browser, then
run cmd
type: ipconfig /flushdns

If that still doesn't work, then like I already said: If you want a file of the vault that's not up on neverwintervault.org, shoot me a PM and I'll see if I can quickly reupload it.

Still redirecting, but thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

I don't know if this'll solve it, but you might try clearing your browser cache.

Direct input of IP gives a 404. Definitely some DNS shenanigans
