I have no interest whatsoever in MMORPGs. I love KOTOR, I love Elder Scrolls, I love DAO, I didn't, even for a second, been interested in playing either as a MMO.

That is literally the only thing that would make me not want DAI.  I hate MMOs with a fiery passion.

I hope DA never goes the MMO route.  Though I enjoy TOR I enjoy it despite it being an MMO.  And I tried to get into TES online but it felt like TES lite because of the MMO elements.  DA does not need to jump on the MMO bandwagon.  It's strengths are in it's stories, characters, and party based combat systems.  DA has something good going as being a single player RPG.  It is it's nitch and it needs to stay with it.  That isn't to say I am opposed to multiplayer elements if they are implemented in a good way.  I love ME 3's multiplayer so if they do something along those lines but make it fit with DA I am all for it.

depends. if mechanics wasn't changed and/or the idea wasn't fresh - NO

ESO is a f..n disgrace. SWtoR tries too hard to be WoW (and fails miserably). and WoW has pandas now (and kidfriendly mechanics, scaring integral/statistics loving nerds away)

Caldari for life

EDIT: more on WoW, ingnore if you don't care

i think most of WoW players are actually people who care about playing the best they can, geeks, loyal fans since the first instalment. not the kids whose parents buy one month sub (just to satisfy the curiosity). dumbing it down was ment to bring more casual players. but it doesn't work that way. casual players will be bored - raids/pvp are demanding a relatively big amount of time, not to mention preparation for them. next game comes out and they rush for it. if they got rid of that aspect (raids/pvp) - they will lose loyal gamers who enjoy the complexity of the mechanics. MMOs are a marketing trap imho. you have to lose some to win some. and WoW is losing it.

I love my panda. Don't you dare say anything harsh about my little cuddly monk.

Ahem.
I do agree that Blizzard is trying very hard to make it both casual and hardcore friendly. Are they doing it well?

Casuals have a lot of things to keep themselves occupied (Pet battles, lfg, lfr, rbgs) and getting the 2nd best gear is relatively easy (chain run rbgs for 3 days and you'll have all ilvl522 gear and at least 2 pieces of ilvl550).
Hardcore gamers have heroic raids and rated battlegrounds (and arenas...). Method and Vodka are still around.

So people playing the game have a lot to do, everything from achievements to farming gold. What Blizzard fails in is releasing content on a regular basis. As soon as they announce their new expansion all their effort is put into that and the game is allowed to become stagnant. Good news is you can unsub. Bad news is you'll need to find a new game to play until the expansion comes out.

I do agree that if raids and battlegrounds were removed a lot of people would quit. Hell, I'd quit even though I've been playing since 2006. Without the core PvE and PvP elements the game would have nothing.

What we can hope for is that Wildstar or Wild... Whatever that game is... is seen as competition. Blizzard can produce amazing content, and do so, they just can't keep up with the demand.

I would by lying if I said I wouldn't play it, however I would be disappointed and most likely terrified. I have never played an MMO that didn't ruin a game for me. Final Fantasy series - ruined by the MMO's. Elder Scrolls - ruined by the MMO. That isn't to say that BioWare couldn't pull it off, but I found SWTOR underwhelming, so I don't know they have a good history in this area to prove my fears unjustified.

MMO's just have so many limitations that I think would constrain the series. The instant reaction is 'but MMOs are bigger and more vast', but in fact due to the nature of having so many online in the same space, the personal aspects of story and being able to pause-and-play, and strategise, and control various players, and have unique companions that only react to you are very difficult challenges to overcome in that genre. It just doesn't fit the BioWare model in my opinion.

My personal opinion is that there is definitely scope in the way the Dragon Age setting is crafted to build an MMO from it - but I just hope they don't do it. Let's leave well enough alone.

No, I only play MSORPGs (massively single-player offline role-playing games).

Not at all, no chance. Part of what makes Dragon Age for me is being a single-player RPG. Turning it into an MMO would take all that away.

As long as there is interactive sex scenes with companion players.

Just kidding.

No. I enjoyed the class stories in TOR, but the game was such a huge time sucker! Same with Secret World. I found myself arranging to meet up with people, scheduling raids etc, feeling bad for dropping out of group things because I was letting people down even though there was something happening IRL that demanded my attention. Kind of felt a bit under pressure, and like my time wasn't really my own anymore. Single-player I can pick up and drop as my time allows (I have two small kids, so that can vary a lot). And all the time, more content was being released, and there were more and more other games I wanted to play and my backlog was growing ...

Also, I admit I'm a selfish player. I love being the hero of my story, the centre of attention, the one who gets the girl/guy and all that loot.

The gameplay of DA is also a big draw for me - pause and play, the ability to take direct control of companions - not things you tend to see in MMOs.

I don't mind the idea of some sort of MP in DA (though I didn't play it, it certainly seemed to go down a storm in ME3). Co-Op (BG style) could be fun - if Inquisition ever got released on a Mac I could see myself persuading my husband (under sufferance  ) to play it with me ...

After seeing what it did to Warcraft's story...and after what happened with Revan...

tumblr_inline_n67fepuTZR1r1y28y.jpg

I'd much rather have a story that evolves from game to game than in the constant fluid style of an MMO.

The toxicity of most of the MMO community is a "bonus" as well.  While I know that, years ago, MMO communities weren't as bad as battle.net, that isn't true anymore for the more successful MMOs.   I'd already dealt with being called all sorts of NSFW names before, just by playing a female character.  I didn't dare mention my RL gender, just my character's gender was enough.  Granted, it was a minority of WoW, but it happened frequently enough to where I don't want to go back.  When I quit ToR (over 18 months ago, so this may have changed,) that nasty element was creeping it's way in there as well.

I really don't want to see that attitude nor that type of story progression happen to Dragon Age, or Mass Effect for that matter.

I would play through the main story once maybe twice, but I would probably lose interest pretty quickly after that, MMOs are not really my thing.

Ugh, yeah that happened to me too. My first Sith Warrior got 'stalked' by a guy wanting to do 'adult roleplay' and who wouldn't stop bothering me about it to the point where I just deleted that character. Grim. What the hell is wrong with some people?

No. I don't like MMORPG (I don't like multiplayer in general) for various reasons.

I can't and won't pay every month for a game I may not have time to play and that I have already payd. NO!!! NO WAY!!! is the bigger reason I can't stanf MMORPGs in general.

I play to have fun, so I sometime switch to a simpler lever of difficult if I can't defeat a boss. In a MMORPG you can't. and if you aren't the best of the best, people cah decide you are not worthy to keep in the group, and end up alone and insulted.

I like play alone, without having idiotic people who arrass me (or my avatar) when playng.

I play DA for the characters and the choices-consequences. I don't need people seeing and commenting on my choices, even if it was possibile in MMORPG having choice and consequences.

I might not even play it as-is. If it was an MMO that chance would fall to zero.

They did a good job with SWTOR, excluding Revan (then again, they mangled Revan so badly I was able to pretend he was just some psycho pretending to be Revan, so maybe I'm not so upset about that). That said, I probably wouldn't do buy another MMO from them--I like having save files more than PVP, I like spending $60 at once instead of $15 per month, I like getting my loot and not playing with the jerk who "Needs" everything, I like having lag that only causes me to wait a bit longer instead of lag that gets me killed in a fight because my enemies aren't affected.

So, no, I wouldn't. Though I'd probably be tempted just because Inqusition looks really good.

Hrm... about the question of the topic:

No, if it would be a MMO I wouldn't play it.

My reason: For me in roleplaying-games there is one point very very important for me: Immersion.

And from my experience from many MMO which had a nice world, great story and all... immersion is simply knocked down and kicked to death in MMOs.

So simply: No, never would play Dragon Age as MMO. I want it as singleplayer, maybe coop would be nice (where I can choose who I play with), but MMO would destroy my view about the great world created for the DA-universe.

Yeah, because BSN is full of normal people that never whine about the dumbest ****.

However, I can just leave the forum anytime if I'm sick of the people here, and go play DA as a solo game.  If it was a MMO, it would be completely inescapable.  The forum experience and my game experience would always remain tied to each other.

If you really think the BSN is bad, then you haven't spent any time on battle.net.
