So I barely fight off the hordes of undead attack Redcliff. I sneak into the castle, fighting more of the vile creatures, including a greater shade.

And then my valiant party is done in. By dogs.

Really?

I mean, how could the undead even touch the castle inhabitants with these super-charged canines? How could Ferdelen ever have been conquered with some an unassailable force?

Talk about a balancing issue and an immersion breaker.

Well, one could argue that dogs can't open doors, and that the castle's defenders were perhaps overcome by the walking corpses before they were able to unleash the mabari war hounds. That's how I've always seen it. And the dogs attack your party because you have the stink of darkspawn about you, maybe.

But the doors were open. Already.

And we have the stink of undead, not darkspawn. If dogs attacked wardens due to the taint (tee hee), then they would be useless in war. As the wardens had been exiled for years, the old specially trained dogs line won't fly.

And, wait a second, you are actually defending the idea of these tiny furry mobile slaughter units as being the ultimate defense against the undead?

Ugh, and apparently anti-knock down abilities don't even work on the wolf and knock-down.

Redcliff is a *****. Just needed to vent that after spending an hour trying to survive the fight with the militiamen and dying, over and over and over again.

My god you guys. If redcliff was your first stop you have not seen hard yet. LOL. I won't ruin it though, but find plenty of Healing potions. ;)

Redcliff and if you do it a certain way is connected to your next stop, and that is hard.... LOL. Fun as hell but hard. You will leave the experience saying to yourself this is only the first part of the game... Woot can't wait for the rest...

The dogs are a pretty hard fight at low level, but after trying 3-4 times, I finally managed to pull half of them out in the hallway. Once divided, it was easy enough. If you're too frustrated with that fight though, you should perhaps go do some other stuff and return when stronger.

The way I did it (On Hard). Was have alistair stand in the doorway so only 3 dogs could get at him at once, then just had everyone else pound on them.

Creative choke points FTW.

I did the same in Laghorn(sp?) when you have to fight about a dozen wolves at once.  I had Alistar sit in one of the fence openings along with my 2H warrior and let the wolves charge us there.  Oh and the AoE acid bomb the Bard girl threw killed 4-5 of them outright.

The first time I ran into this huge pack though I got mauled.  Playing on Hard BTW.

Don't disrespect the Mobari Warhounds.  Lesson learned I guess.  I decided to keep mine in the party and he's quite the beast, no pun intended.

I guess nobody told the dogs to attack the undead, and why would the dogs do that on their own?  Afterall these beings are dead, most animals don't pay too much attention to dead things.

In another place the dogs don't attack you, but help you (without telling them anything). So this dog stuff is fishy.

What about Rabbit? Can't he tell the other furry fellas to switch to your side?

This game needs lots of modding :)
