I needed a break from NWN porting frustrations, so I started a little project to create new variants for the standard tile sets. Here are some corner stairs:

I also made some variants to fix the recessed floor orientation problem:

Finally I've added wooden door frame variants where there were none, plus some other side and corner combinations, and a double-door tile.

Does anybody have a particular variants they'd like to see?

Up and down stairs in the same tile is something I have wanted for a long time. You sir, are something of a star in my modding world.

It sounds like stair variants for the other sets would be good then. Thanks. :)

Yes. I built a "variant" stair tile with one wall for Crimmor by using a wall placeable, but proper variants are most welcome (especially the up and down in one tile).

The cave tileset is missing one of the open floor tiles (one of the ones with the corner columns). The icon is there in the toolset, but if you try to use it you get a copy of another similar tile instead, with the column in the wrong corner. I had to redesign a cave area because of it.

Okay, I'll check. Thanks.

If you're feeling like a HERO (or more of one), I'd like to beat the head horse of "multi-level cave tiles for 500, Jim."

Since you asked for requests, there's one I've always wanted to have. A ceiling tile with no floor. Not useful by itself but for multilevel custom interiors this would make character mode work properly.

Isn't this more or less covered by the RWS Deep Chasms set?  :)  I know it adds two lower levels plus ramps. Speaking of which, that set needs to be copied over to the NWVault.

I'll add this to the roof tiles. Thanks.

I love that tileset and use the hell out of it.  But the vertical distance between each level is quite small, and there are walkmesh issues requiring the use of placeables to channel players so they don't get hung up on the mesh, because it's not always apparent what's walkable and what's not.  So right now, if you want to do a tunnel really going DOWN, you have to get wild and crazy with those new walkmesh helpers from last year and rocks on blank tiles in order to create a real sense of three-dimensionality.  (and yes, you can do that just by making an "exterior interior," which is great for a module guy, but in pw-land where I live, that's problematic because of the huge size differences between exteriors and interiors -- your online module can have scads of the latter for every one of the former).

I'm probably in a distinct minority on this one, though, so if it's not of interest I'll just stick with my walkmesh-helpers for building the truly crazy-deep stuff.  =)

Well.... it could perhaps be done with a few mix-and-match metatiles. (Perhaps deeply sloped variants of the existing metatiles?) The problem I run into is that the significantly lowered tiles need to block sightlines to other tiles, otherwise it can be immersion breaking to look into another tile above or below you. So it ends up with these big black panels along the sides, which will impact and block most camera views. It's a case where NWN2 is definitely showing its age...

Here's a 1x3 entrance lobby metatile:

The reverse view:

It should be useful, I think.

Looks awesome, just needs a corner piece where the balcony rail meets the banister.

You could always move a column there if it is a problem. :) Right now the railings are at different heights.

Nearly done with the Castle tiles. Here I've added bottom spiral stairs, a curved corner piece, and several arrow slit tiles.

Those are going to be useful. Could the arrow slit window (now the recess) be a placeable?

Great work!

Could the floor texture be changed to say, wood? Does the curved corner come in one 90° part (so 4 of them rotated would make a perfect round room)?

It could be. How much of the surrounding wall would be needed?

Certainly. I'm contemplating doing texture atlases of an elegant wood (with green Elven banners) and a coarse metal (with evil black and red banners) themed castles. Many of the NWN (512x512) textures convert over nicely, so I'm planning to use a number of those.

Does the curved corner come in one 90° part (so 4 of them rotated would make a perfect round room)?

Yes, it is a 90° corner piece that can be joined to itself. Plus there's a matching tile of a curved wall with column for use in a corridor. Probably I should do one with arrows slits.

Brilliant!

If that's not too much asking, a rough wooden floor and a dungeon-like texture would be perfect. And I do like the idea of arrow slits, but a narrow window would be nice too as a variant. And would the winding stairs be available as a placeable? (so we could put stairs either near the walls, or in the middle of the room).

If a placeable arrow nich is made, sinply dont put a floor on it. Floor problem solved.

As long as those tiles used the tileset default floor texture, you can give them any floor texture you want

Note that I didn't implement window tiles because there's already an RWS Pocket Castle that implements narrow corridors and windows. There's probably already a placeable spiral stairs around somewhere. A descending spiral stairs would need to be built into a tile floor.
