What dev comments?
I'll try to find it, I think it was either a tweet or a comment here when someone said we should be able to guess the next Character Kit based on who they've shown off most up to this point.
Since they've already released kits for Varric, Cassandra and Vivienne, and I don't think the inclusion of BEM in that environments trailer was an accident, I think it makes sense to predict that the next character to be shown off will be him.

Ah, it was Allan:
(Keeping in mind that they showed off BEM's outfit in the Christmas update, which was ~3 months ago, and he's the only other companion we've actually seen in official marketing. I know Sera and the Grey Warden were in some Game Informer videos, but only for about half a second.)

Imagine Baldy with benedict Cumberbatch or
Emery GideonsTom Hiddleston's voice, and ofcourse being a LI? I WOULD DIIIIEEE. (And replay DAI a thousand times)
But I guess BW can´t use Emery´s gorgeous voice twice for LI, and BenYum is too much of a star to do a voice in a videogame.
Fixed it for ya. ![]()
But you're right; actors like Cumberbatch or Hiddleston are probably super spendy, not to mention trying to work around their schedules. Still, a girl can dream. ![]()
Since everyone is weighing in, I was kinda thinking "surprise meatballs" for Mr. McSmuggins. Especially if he DOES end up being a Tevinter Magister. I thought the wax fruit might be Cole. If he's a companion. IF he's in the game.
I'm noticing a lot of "ifs" in my statements. ![]()

Oh gods! Don't let him be a LI. That would truly suck.

Hey, Keith David and Martin Sheen did voices in Mass Effect. And not even companions.

Isn't Dorian also the name of that bastard who owned Fiona in The Calling? Terrible thing to be associated with.
The Orlesian Count? I don't remember them giving a name and I can't find it on the wiki, but it's been a while since I read the books.

Oh wait, you're absolutely right.
That is a pretty terrible name to be associated with.
(edit: a name with which to be associated? what even is grammar.)

It says Dorian was slain by Fiona. So its not Dorian...
Still hoping for a magister though.

Yeah, it's not the same character (one is a hypothetical magister, the other is a dead Orlesian noble) but they do have the same name.
It's a reasonable name to use for an aristocratic or hedonistic character (or a magister!), but I'd forgotten that someone named Dorian already had a very minor part in the Dragon Age setting.

The only thing the name Dorian reminds me of is Dorian Gray. Creeeepy...
I believe that would be the idea. Doesn't seem like they'd pick a name with such strong literary links and not have it mean anything.
(and the hypothetical character's hypothetical last name was hypothetically "Pavus", which is Latin for peacock)

Either way, BEM could still be from Tevinter. Head of the slave rebellion and a powerful Mage or former Somnari Magister who practices spirit healing. Or someone different all together.
We shall find out sooner than later. Hopefully.

^ Yeah, for a long time I dismissed the idea that fancy moustache guy could be a magister, but now I'm more and more thinking he could be, which would make BEM somebody else entirely.
I completely forgot that arcane warriors used swords (and Tevinter mages seem to like swords and sword-y staffs regardless of their speciality), and Moustache Guy is wearing completely the wrong outfit to be a warrior.
That would mean we have three mages in the party, but then DA2 did the same thing if you had Bethany.
Given that BEM is wearing the same clothing (fur jacket-y thing) as the apostates in some concept art, I think that might be his background - though that wouldn't imply where he was from before becoming an apostate.

He has spear and sword. Not every warrior has to wear heavy armor. He can be poor chevalier.

I was merely commenting on the unfortunate status of anyone in the same franchise to share a name with a torturing child rapist is all.
D'aww, my phone attempted to autocorrect that to "child Dalish", like it wants to shield me from the horrors of that character with something else. O_o

What happened to the speculation that Mustache Guy is the fomer(current?) Grey Warden? Did I miss where that was thrown out?

I could be wrong but the fancy mustache guy and the gray warden were two different characters, and we don't even know if either of them in the game.
On another note, for the baldy elf in the official game concepts for his coustomizeable armor changes, he looks at least like his head is shaved maybe rather than completely bald, regardless of appearence, I get a strong vibe that BEM is going to be a rather sassy individual.

I seem to remember David Gaider saying that the look that we saw for the BEM wasn't even his finalized appearance. However, from the concept art, he always seems to have a wry grin on his face. I can't wait to hear him in game.
If you go back and watch the Game Informer videos (sorry, I can't remember which one!), off to the side, on a person's monitor, you can see a blonde female companion, and a large male with a burly beard. There's some other concept art on the wiki where it shows Beardly and Cassandra in various armors, and Beardly has the Warden insignia on all his armors.
Also, they both show up in this piece of concept art:
As well as this one, in which he's wearing a grey warden symbol that he seems to be tearing from his neck:
Sorry, sorry! I'll stop talking about Beardly over here. This thread is about the BEM ![]()
