I hadn't even heard the "ancient elf" theory yet. That would be amazing. I should have been following this thread more closely! Haha.

I've been thinking he would probably end up being a Dalish that got separated from/left his tribe, or they were killed, right before he got the tattoos. I would LOVE the ancient elf background, though. That would make him like 100x more interesting to me.

I'm not sure it eliminates him as a LI, though. I mean, the reason it does with Cole is that he's mentally incapable of consent and, in all likeliness, he has no sexual desire just because that's not something spirits actually do. If Solas is an immortal elf, that just means.. he's immortal. He'd probably still have a libido, because elves obviously sexually reproduce and they did when they were immortal, too. He'd be able to consent, the Inquisitor is mentally capable of consent. It's not like this would be the first media to have an immortal character hook up with a mortal character.

Well, the problem I pointed out with it before isn't that he couldn't consent, but that he'd be so much older and more experienced than the Inquisitor that at that point, the Inquisitor would become a child to him.  If you're 500+ years old, a 20-something is going to look like an infant to you.  The 20-something will have much less experience, will not have been through the things you went through, etc.  And the ancient elves who went into uthenara were very aware in the Fade, watching over the other elves, etc.  As I said earlier, the Veil Tear would have likely woken them up.

Of course... TME spoiler ahead...

Spoiler

And that's just one of many reasons that while the idea is interesting, I don't think it's true--and I'm the one who thought it up.  But who knows?  Maybe someone will read it and it'll be implemented next game or so.

I hope they tell us the writer when they announce a Follower Friday character and, also, hope in vain that they tell us when a character is a LI. They didn't with Vivienne, but popular opinion is that it'll be Cassandra and Sera for female LIs. Probably wont happen, but I still hope.  :P

Solas is already interesting to me based on the "fade expert" commentary we'd heard. Character worth, to me, has a lot to do with how much new information they stand to give. Solas already seemed to have a lot to tell us about the fade, but as an ancient elf character, he'd be easily one of my favorite concepts. lol

Well, having read TME, I wonder if, were he an ancient elf, it would necessarily be a good thing.

I'm not sure a 20 year old would seem like an "infant" in this context. I mean, they're still physically mature and they're the leader of a powerful, internationally recognized organization. There might be a lot more life experience on Solas's side, if this is his concept, but I'm of the opinion that romance is all above board as long as it's adults involved, even if one is substantially older.

I would be willing to sacrifice Solas as a LI for it, but then again, I wasn't heavily banking on Solas as a LI. Still, generally I look towards what there is for a character to add to the lore before anything else. This would be AMAZING in that capacity, so I'm with it before LI status. I'm sure he'll be interesting either way, but I would LOVE this concept, personally.

Well, like I said before, my interest in characters tends towards what they have to add to the lore. This is an argument I see against Cole a lot, that they think he seems like a bad guy, for whatever reason. We've had a lot of companions that were jerks in one way or another. It wouldn't be anything new. lol

I don't really expect that little theory of mine to be true.  It'd be epic if it were, but... you know.  I doubt it.  But I wouldn't even have devised that theory if we had more information about Solas already available.  It's going to be hard to understand who he is without knowing where he comes from.  Personality is important, but personality often is affected by an individual's past experiences to some degree.  If he's former Dalish, he's going to have a different background and outlook than if he's an ex-Circle mage, or even someone who was never Dalish or a Circle mage, but raised in secret out in the wilds somewhere or something.

For now all we know is that he's an apostate and that he's awkward, sweet and spicy.  And the sweet and spicy really gives me the impression he was meant as a love interest, but, if he's not I won't be crushed.  I'll probably just not romance anyone (unless Dramatic Hands Mustache Guy turns out to be available, maybe).  Cullen's cute, but all the hype about him and the fact that he really hates mages/doesn't see them as people, turns me against him for romance purposes.

In any case, my point about "he might not be romanceable," which I've kept failing to mention, I think, is that... it won't matter to me, if he's interesting enough that I like him anyway.

Hmmm, and another TME spoiler...

I guess that depends on whether or not you like hot pepper candies...

In any case, we're clearly starving for information here.  Anyone else have any wild theories to discuss?

And for that matter, what would it mean to the game if Solas WERE an ancient elf?  Maybe that would be how we find Arlathan, despite no one ever knowing precisely where to look before?

Sweet is sweet is sweet! And spicy too, in this case.  ;)

More theories? I think what would make Solas really interesting (other than your awesome ancient elf idea) is if he really is a Dreamer. Though he might be a bit overpowered that way.

As for this part, I never really thought that was enough evidence that Gaider was his writer. There are a lot of reasons why Gaider could be defensive of his character build. It's sort of weird to me how people automatically start assuming someone wrote a character based on things like the writer liking a post in the characters thread, like I saw with another character. Maybe Gaider is the writer, but I don't think we really have any strong evidence of it. With very likely NPC romances, it's possible that both of Gaider's companions wont even be LIs. It's possible he wrote one of the NPC romances.

Inquisitor> So... Solas.  I understand you're a Fade expert.  Does that make you the man of my dreams?

Solas> Oh, I'm so much more than that.  I could make your dreams come true.  But I don't feel like it right now.  Come back and talk to me later.

Inquisitor>  This is about that herb-gathering incident, isn't it?  This is my punishment.

Solas> No, this is about your puns.  Still, I guess it is your "pun"-ishment.

Yeah.  Bad Brass.  No cookies.

It's an interesting idea.  With the Veil Tears, a Dreamer could definitely be useful.  Or then again, the fact that we can already enter the Fade at will might render him less useful than he might be otherwise.  Or more useful, if he can somehow directly manipulate reality due to the Fade bleeding into reality.

Karm's "Solas in Wonderland" ( <3  <3  <3 )  gave me so many feels that I decided to also make one. You know, for science?
