I remember reading that as well, the baldness does bother me a little (I am judgemental I know, mostly cause there's nothing to fill the empty space) but I thought it was interesting in the pictures of his armor his head appeared to be more shaved than anything. That's why I said I get a strong vibe that he'll be a sassy elf, the wry smile of his just makes me think that he's going to have some kind of sass to him.

I'm pretty sure that the fancy mustache guy and the grey warden are both probably going to be in the game and most likely as companions, but it's not confirmed yet, so that's why I said that we don't know if they are or not.

Anyone hoping for companion trailers like they did for origins?

I believe that would be the idea. Doesn't seem like they'd pick a name with such strong literary links and not have it mean anything.

Well, Cassandra hasn't meant anything yet.  And Fenris didn't mean much

Cassandra is a See(ke)r. The big eye on her entire uniform is a bit of giveaway  :P

I don't necessarily think the names are going to be massively important, but there must be some reason that they wanted to make those references.

Dorian has an additional etymology relating to the region of ancient Greece and its music, architecture, etc, but that seems *far* more obscure than its recent use by Wilde. Even if the name isn't indicative of a character's entire foundation, the combination of Dorian and the Latin Pavus is certainly... suggestive.

I do hope BEM is sassy with a lurking smile. Not korky like Alistair (so unsexy..) But more intellegent, sarcastic smirk. You know, saying the right things at the right place. And I hope he is very smart. Being kinda "over" the Inqusitioner. So the Inquisitioner depend more on BEM than the other way around.  I´d love that <3

I'd like him to be quiet, yet when he is prompted to speak, he will have some snarky bon mot to lay on us.

Oh gods! Don't let him be a LI. That would truly suck.

I dunno... I'm straight and I think he's kinda hot...

It's the chin... I'm getting a doctor who vibe from this elf... The fact that he's bald is strengthening the matt smith case!

I'm kind of expecting to be a little like Morrigan, but a little less acerbic. Definitely the pragmatic, intelligent and slightly snarky type.

I'll never get the "please don't make him a LI" thing.  I mean, if he is a LI, you can always pick the other male LI (assuming that there will be two), so it's not like you are going to be forced to be with him.  On the other hand, by wishing that he's not a LI, you are basically wishing that the people who do like how he looks don't get what they want.  Just seems selfish to me (shrugs).

Regarding what we know about him so far, I'm intrigued.  He doesn't appear to be Dalish, since he doesn't have the vallaslin.  But he's always dressed in furs and such, so it makes me think that he's not a circle mage either.  He could be an apostate, but that seems similar to Morrigan.  I wonder what his "niche" will be, since the companions usually offer a unique perspective.

You know, he is quite tall for an elf....? Or at least seems so in the artworks.....

Feynriel looks like a human, like all human-elf children do.

After all the complaining, he'll end up being a wildly popular companion. Watch.

I think the shaved/bald head is interesting, myself. Anders was "pretty" and I spent most of DA2 wanting to murder knife him.  As long as Baldy McElfguy is well-written and lives up to the promise of that smirk, I'll be taking him along!

Considering that is a picture of a child/teenager and BEM is an adult, I think you'll be safe there.  ^_^

Personally, I don't mind the bald look on elves.   I always thought it looked pretty sharp myself.

I don't understand the hate towards him, since he looks really interesting. I think I'll really like him, and so will a lot of people. In fact, I think he'll be widely preferred over Vivienne.

I would never speak for everyone who has made comments about his "follicle-challenged" head, but I believe in many cases, those that have made comments to hoping for some hair on his head, still believe he will be an interesting character. Hair or not. I know I am excited to learn more, and suspect he will be very well written. Preferring hair on him isn't going to make most people dismiss him as a character, should the bald/shaved look stay. I had stated myself, at one point, that growing up watching Nosferatu in the 70's, conjured that image when I looked at that one piece of concept art, along with one of the (somewhat out of focus/hard to see)in-game shots. And I thought the play on of Nosferelftu was funny.

Bottom line, with next to nothing to talk about, regarding his background or personality, we are left with speculation, conjecture (based on that old survey), and "hair vs. no-hair".

Oh....and if he will be an LI. Always that.

I don't mind that he's bald all that much... I mind the fact that he looks bland and kinda unfinished. I thought that ingame model was a random npc modeling some cool clothes until that one other BEM discussion thread. And imo mistaking a companion for a random npc is not a good thing.

I like him in most of the concept art though, because he's got emotion and character. And he dosen't look bland.

Though I like the war room one the best, but that's a liiiitle bit cause the shadow makes it look like he's got reddish facepaint on half his head. Take off the hair and I'd still like him just as much.

I just hope they keep working on the ingame model to make it less npc-ish... Maybe give him really intence eyes, or facepaint, a tattoo, or some hair or whatever. Just to add some colour...

Chances are, he's an apostate hiding from the Templars. If I was a Mage, I wouldn't be walking around in Mage robes that's for sure...though the staff is a bit of a giveaway.
That's why I think a Mage should have a wand or a dagger they can channel spells through.
Awe yeah.
