I'm currently obsessed with this image of him romancing a person shorter than him so he can like bend down and kiss the top of their head or something like that... I think it'd be cute (not many shorter than an elf after all.. so having someone shorter than him could be interesting)

I'm going to make a fan art request from those of you with better anatomy skills than mine: Solas in a compromising pose, asking to be drawn like one of the Inquisitor's Orlesian girls. DO EEET. But yes, I'll be very excited if Solas is the reveal. Iron Bull would be okay...
I do wonder if it will be someone else, specifically a human, but Solas might make more sense, because I suspect he'll be important to the plot in a major way. We're dealing with Veil Tears. So, someone who is an expert on the Fade will be invaluable. In theory, the most important characters will be done first, and they may get more time spent on them dialoguewise etc.
Which, if true, would explain why Alistair, Morrigan, Anders, and Merrill all got more attention than some other LIs/characters... they are the ones you are expected to have, and have major plot relevance. So they'd have been worked on more.
Just wanted to comment on this, which I think a lot of people are assuming. I don't think showing up first necessarily means these will be our "most important" characters. I honestly wouldn't be surprised at all if characters like Varric and Vivienne didn't have as deeply embedded plot relevance as some other characters. I think their reveal early might actually be because what was revealed tells us less that would surprise us. Characters with backgrounds that require them to reveal plot elements we don't yet know about may be held until towards the end, even if they're very important to the plot.
Also, your Solas art is amazing.

Well, they don't have to reveal much about the plot to tell us about a character. I think Vivienne will be important to the plot due to politics, and I think Solas will be important because Fade Expert, it'd be hard for him not to be important.
We already know Varric and Cassandra are likely to be important.
Hopefully due to the time extension and the fact that we have nine set-in-stone companions, they'll be able to make everyone equally important to the plot, and no one will feel like: Why is this person here, exactly? Sort of like, I adore Fenris but he really doesn't influence the plot much unless you allow romancing him to influence you to be anti-mage (or are trying to convince him to be pro-mage).
The initial reveal doesn't mean that they're important, mind you. But they revealed Morrigan and Alistair before, say, Sten, if I remember right. So, "main" companions are likely to be seen first, not only because we'll meet them first but because of their high relevance to the story. If I'm right, it also bumps up Solas's chances at being a romantic interest, since the major plot-related characters are also usually, you know. Romances. Can't imagine why...

Well, part of my problem is I'm stubborn. Horribly so. I used to want to do video game character designs when I was in high school, but then I grew up and realized I wasn't anywhere near skilled enough for that. I have been doodling and drawing my entire life. I'm better than average at it, not gonna lie about that, but again I struggle with a lot of things like anatomy, perspective, backgrounds... The way to get better is to challenge yourself, research, etc. It also takes a certain degree of patience and sheer stubbornness. But even then we can't all be Matt Rhodes (or insert-your-artist-of-choice here), because that takes some inherent talent that combines with the training and produces pure awesomeness the likes of which not all of us are destined to have. Some of us wrestle with it like we're fighting alligators, others it's just like saying "here kitty" to a familiar cat.
And yes, the idea of Solas smooching someone on the head is adorable. But I've already decided I'll be playing at least a Dalish mage and a qunari who may be a mage or a rogue or a warrior (have yet to decide)... ah well. Plenty of room for more playthroughs, right?

I dunno, Vivienne is involved in politics other than the mage/templar conflict. Remember she's been in Celene's employ for a while. She may be sent along with us as insurance against Gaspard; it would make political sense for Celene to look out for her own political interest. Vivienne may even try to convince us to take Celene's view on various issues. She may be more important than just the mage/templar conflict. We just don't have the details yet. Whatever else she is, she seems interesting.
Solas is, on the other hand, practically guaranteed to be important with his involvement with the Fade. He may not be the next reveal, but I doubt they'll hold off too long on him. I'd love to know more about him, but that's precisely why Bioware may hold off. The longer they keep us in suspense, the longer they have our interest in the game, and the more we hype the game. Still... it'd be nice to have some resources to do more fan art with, and an official, finalized version of Solas to go by. Won't we all be surprised if he suddenly sports Dalish tattoos...

If I remember correctly (and I might not be; it's pretty late here), Anders' reveal for DA2 was second to last of the available companions, and I'd argue he's probably the most important/influential companion to the plot of DA2.
I mean, you could be entirely right, and I'd certainly like Solas (and DHMG!) to be important characters and be revealed fully and all that, but I'm not sure how useful it'll be to look for patterns in reveal order.
