Hm, if he's on the cover, does that mean he's essential to the plot like Morrigan/Alistair/Anders?

I notice that there are still a lot of people upset about Solas's lack of hair. I never knew that hair was such a crucial thing for so many people! I think if he'd had some sort of ponytail all along, he'd be more popular and I find it slightly fascinating, actually. Sometimes seeing people react to the early reveal of BioWare characters gives interesting social insights!

That's what I was just saying.  And usually those essential-to-the-plot sorts are romance options.  Not always, though, so nobody get your hopes up too high.

Haha well IF that's him on the cover! And even if it is, he's not immediately recognizable. Perhaps we're all reading too much into it  :P

Not that I don't want him to be super important to the plot. I definitely do!

I admit I'm not a huge fan of bald heads, but Solas's face is cute enough in that extreme zoom that I don't mind.  Not to mention, as others have pointed out, those thighs... dude's toned.  I'm not going to whine about him being hairless.  If others want to miss out on Mr. Scotch Bonnet Candy solely because he is hypo-allergenic, well, then, that's more of him for us.  ;)

I'm not usually a fan of the bald look but I do honestly find it fascinating that the sentiment seems to be so common. I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering how terrible people find balding in real life but people are much more blunt when it comes to video game characters

The only thing I tilt my head at is when people seem to be angry with the character for not being attractive to them, but that's something I've seen in the past too.

Yeah, and the results are often gross and disturbing :(  I didn't like Fenris' tattoos or white hair when we first met him, now I think he's a crazy attractive LI.  I hope people will come around to him when they meet him regardless of his LI status.

Exactly!  More for us.  I feel like I should do some fan art to hold onto in case he's confirmed as an LI.  Hmmm....

Yeah, I saved the file and zoomed waaaaay in.  Definitely Solas, but not sure if that's Vivienne or a human at all--can't figure out where the head would be.

Solas, however, is definite and not just because of the bald head.  It's that whole "he's wearing that fur drapery over his right side" thing, if you extreme-zoom to see it.  But the other figure, well, if that's a head it's too big.  Almost looks like the figure is bending so that the head is pointing toward us, while the staff is pointing outward, but that's such a strange pose I can't imagine that being right.   They are too close together for Vivienne's head to be that big--Rhodes is skilled enough he wouldn't make that kind of mistake with perspective.  So I think either I am looking at it totally wrong or that may not be a person he's beside at all...

Still, interesting that he was chosen to be on the cover art over some of the others.  It bolsters my theory that he'll be extremely important, and extremely important companion characters are usually LIs.  Not always though.

Edit:  Okay, I think I see a figure now, but I can't say it looks like Vivienne even so.  Definitely a mage, but that's not a horned hat--it looks like a tiny arm is splayed one direction, with the head up the other, and then the staff coming from the other arm.  Could be her, and in fact I'd say more likely her than Dramatic Hands, but I have no idea.

I think she is just sort of crouched in a position to steady herself so she can use the staff, if you look at the positioning of Solas' feet you can see they're on uneven ground. So theoretically, Vivienne's head could be bowed down so it's in line with her chest and only her horns show. Which is how I see it anyway. But who knows.

I hope that's our cueball on the cover.   and it would be interesting if he did end up being one of the more important companions (important plot wise that is) and if he ends up being the "main LI" - though I'd rather not have a "main" LI - it would be surprising that it's not a human

I can understand people being shallow, but the people who think characters should be tweaked to their liking are the ones who make me raise my eyebrows. I feel like the odd one out at times. I don't want the characters to be perfect, I want them to be as close to real people as they can be.

You and I are on the same wavelength lately.  Even the companions we know almost nothing about have a very real feeling about them.  That might explain why I'm wildly attracted to most of them, though it's less physical and more intense yearning to "get to know" them.  I don't mean sex this time either.

I can read the figure more than one way.  One way is with the left "horn" actually being an arm, and the right "horn" being the front of a head that's fading out into the background due to lighting, which kind of makes sense because Vivienne's hat is big but not THAT big, and it makes the figure match Solas in size/proportion better.

The other way I can see it is either Vivienne or Iron Bull, head down, back to us, holding out a weapon.

Whichever way you see it, there is a weapon there.  It looks more like a staff than a sword, so that kind of rules out reading the figure as Cassandra or Iron Bull, both of which it might otherwise be.

That, or we're all wrong and those horns mean it's Iron Bull with his head down pointing a huge two-hander over there.  And now that I've said that, I can't unsee it, though it does look more like a staff than a sword. So I guess she could have her head down with her back to us... like I said, it's a really hard image to read.  I wonder if Rhodes painted it bigger than that or if he painted really tiny so not many details got in back there.

Regardless, it's definitely Solas beside the other figure, whether that figure is Vivienne (and I think I can see that now), or, say, Iron Bull.  He's wearing a bit baggier pants, but he's got the furry thing thrown over his right shoulder, and that's kind of an iconic piece of gear for him.  I wonder if he and Vivissandra Bull are fighting over there... (yes, it's probably Vivienne, but again I can't unsee Iron Bull now...)

My Inquisitor would give that person one look. One cold, absolutely terrifying look that would have them shaking in their fancy outfit and skittering away.

And then she would smile about it because she may have the Qunari intimidation factor but she laughs about it afterwards.

lol...I'm sure a Qunari could have them peeing in their pants just by giving them the death stare! But yeah my Inquisitor won't let anyone take her Solas away!

Anyways about the 2 figures in the background...it does look like Solas and Vivienne, she has that hat on and she looks to be bending forward...at least that's what it looks like to me! :)

I was just thinking if Solas is an LI and we get to take him to the Orlesian Ball what if someone tries to steal him at the Ball what would you have your Inquisitor do?

For starters, I doubt anyone would steal him... he's an elf so I'm not foreseeing much competition there, and my first Inquisitor will either be Dalish (and thus more on equal footing with another elf) or qunari (in which case she'd be kind of scary to mess with).  But, if they should happen to try...

Lady> Excuse me my dear, but you have monopolized this fine gentleman for much too long--it's simply unseemly.  Do be a dear and give the other young men a moment of your time, and allow the ladies to introduce themselves to your... friend, here.

Dalish Inquisitor> Pardon?  Wouldn't you prefer a bit... taller dancing partner?  Besides, he's quite clumsy and he'll only stomp your feet.

Solas> I only do that to you.

Dalish> Fine, do you want to dance with her instead?  I'm sure she's much more graceful than her outrageous outfit would suggest.

Lady> Of course I could never be as graceful as a little rabbit... or perhaps a doe?  But surely the gentleman would prefer the companionship of someone with a more refined sense of fashion.   Perhaps the gentleman might even find a warm, welcoming bed at the end of the evening, as well...

Solas> Rabbit?  Doe?  Are we even talking about the same woman?  But a warm bed does sound nice... You know of a good inn, I take it?

Dalish> Solas--!

Lady> There are far better places to while away an evening than at some plebian establishment...

Solas> Do share...

Lady> Sharing is precisely what I had in mind.

Dalish> (flustered, confused) Well... I'm just... Um.  Find me at camp. (begins walking away)

Solas> (follows) Hey, where are you going?  I wanted to see the look on her face when I told her I was looking forward to sharing that warm bed with a certain sore-footed "rabbit."  We can keep dancing, if you want.

Lady> Why I never--

Dalish> I'll keep dancing, but only if you stop stepping on my feet.  As for sharing a bed... I think you're getting ahead of yourself.

Solas> I'll stop stepping on your feet when you stop gawking at other men.

Dalish> Or when you learn to dance properly...

Doubt? Now don't tell me you don't remember the Brothel in DA2? The elves,Jethann? I'm sure someone would try to take Solas to  their bed! :D

It's been a long time since I played DA2, but I doubt anyone would want to be seen dancing with a lowly elf in public.  Anyone noble anyway.  A Dalish, maybe, because of the exotic factor, but otherwise...

As for the brothels, I remember, vaguely, the one in DA:O.  I know I dealt with the quests in DA2 but I just don't remember.  Again, it's been a long time and I only ever played it once through.  DA2 was a good game, but it wasn't as good as DA:O in my opinion.

That said, elves are definitely seen as attractive, particularly the women.  I'm not sure if there's equivalent interest in elven men from human women as there is from human men toward elven women.  It does seem likely, but I haven't seen it in the books, or even really portrayed in-game much.

If it turns out Solas is Dalish, his presence at the ball would be less, hm.  Scandalous?  I don't know.  Generally elves in Orlais are servants though, so they wouldn't be frequenting the ball so much as the "after-party," with all that implies.

Damn the forum ate my post.

I definitely know how you feel. It's not helping that what we have seen of some of them in game makes them look real. At least more so than ever before. I imagine it's only going to get worse from here in. Oh and of course I can't wait to get to know them in a purely platonic way either. I'm really excited about it actually. Although... (potential TMI) I really, really want to bite Beardy Warden's shoulder. I'm sorry, I'm terrible. But there it is.

OK now you have me seeing it a bunch of different ways, so I'm just going to stop looking. :) But I remember the DA twitter account said they may put out a wallpaper of the image, so if we get it in a higher quality hopefully we'll be able to tell one way or the other.

I'd just expect him to be trustworthy enough after a few flirt sessions to not allow himself to be "stolen," if a person can really be stolen at all... which was what my little banter thingie I wrote was getting at.  Jealousy is not a pretty thing to me.  I don't want to have to get into a major argument or physical fight with some other character over who my Inquisitor is flirting with, that would be very immature.  It wouldn't be the best of reactions even if my Inquisitor were married to Solas, for that matter.  I'd just have to hope that the other character had enough respect for mine written into his characterization, that he wouldn't want to cheat on mine, or that the Inquisitor could cheerfully send him to dance with someone else for a while and Solas would come back to the Inquisitor anyway.
