Sera's eyes look quite large, and though Solas' eyes are more normal, they still have a very large iris (and are still pretty big, just vertically narrow) We get to see lots of that beautiful color in there. In general a large iris makes the eyes seem bigger (see Koreans and circle lenses) so that might be it.
I agree on the sentiment of them being so tall, though. In the original game they were just between the height of humans and dwarves. If you think Solas looks tall, look at Sera in the image, she looks enormous next to Leliana.
I think my only issue with Solas' look is that he looks very like a human with elf ears to me. He lacks that sort of distinct alien quality like the elf who is my avatar.
I don't mind though. As long as that scar stays so I can occasionally whip out a save with a cool cut scene where he's a big Damn hero for T when he needs a reminder that us scarred folk can rock too!
I'm actually supposed to have a scar running down the middle of my face/along my nose because (according to my mom), when I was little, I managed to run myself face first into a wall with a broken tile. And I'm also supposed to have a scar running along the left side of my jaw from a horse riding incident which involved the crazy mare I was riding running me into a low tree, but my mother just wasn't having it and used cremes and such to prevent scarring (she's always told me that it's silly to have wished to have the scars, but I wanted them!)

Making up stories for that sounds like a grand time to me! And it does make sense that it means more coming from strangers, afterall, I think what worries/worried him is that he wouldn't be accepted or would be looked down on for it
Scars are interesting things, they can take on a life of their own for people. As a fairly well scarred up person and a mother, I can't fault her. At some point you might get some epic ones, just don't hold back and have fun. If you do you do, if not, you have kept your pretty face and will never have people turn their nose up at you over it.
That's true, he's sure of my love as momma, but others are an uncertain quantity.
Nothing to be ashamed of! Everybody's got a scar somewhere me I have scar from having appendicitis at the age 15. Your kid should wear that like a badge of Honor " I went through something tragic and survived"! 
I also want to say that if Solas is LI just remember the past 2 DA games have mostly given you a choice to let your LI live or not? so I'm sure it will be the same on this game....hopefully! But really I 100% don't want any of it to be tragic at all! But that's just me I like happy endings.
Well, in reality there was nothing tragic. But I firmly believe people should wear their skins with pride, no matter what they look like.
Yes. I'd love a happy "ending" too. Though it need not wrap anything up. I'd love to simply the options for the characters to simply "be." Marriage made sense for Alistair, but the devotion Zevran expresses with the earring is the same without the ceremony.
As long as it fits the character and they don't pull the bs that got pulled with Bishop where they killed him off between games. Obsidian... Rocks fall, everybody dies...
