I know this is silly, but I was super excited today with all the new info. That pic of Solas and those lips. :) DHMG looking dapper and amazing. Now I'm on the edge of my seat and all worried that Solas won't be available for my female inquisitor. Or DHMG. But mainly Solas. Its silly, I know, but it totally killed my buzz. Until we know, I'm afraid to get more attached to anyone. I liked the all bi options.

This is why it's best not to set your heart on someone ahead of time. :P

I agree with that. I just like some form of restriction. But it seems gender restriction is the only route Bioware is willing to take, so I do prefer that to nothing at all. I don't really want to feel like I can line up all the followers and pick one that suits me because I'm some fantastical badass.

To be quite honest, I've been hoping Iron Bull is gay. Because he seems the least likely.

this would be both hilarious and fantastic. I would totally make a dwarf or an elfman for this. Just for the size difference.  :P

I get what you're saying, because do like being able to romance who I prefer first time around, but this is not cutting other people out of any content. You can choose to play as a male or female inquisitor, or a dwarf, qunari, or elf. It is not cut content when you're roleplaying and go down one route, thus effectively cutting off the quests and story that would have emerged had you picked the other route for that playthrough.

Yeah, you might feel like you don't like playing a male or female PC, but having that character not be attracted to the PC is not cut content. It is optional content, content that you can access by making different decisions when playing the game. Some of these major decisions just happen to occur in character creation.

I'm straight female.  While I can play a male PC, I am not as likely to, because, as I pointed out above, I don't have as much gaming time as I did when I was in school.  I have work.  I have responsibilities.  I cannot spend all day gaming.  Thus, I don't do as many playthroughs.  Most of my playthroughs are female, because I don't feel comfortable playing a male because I'm not a male.  Also, because I don't usually get well-written, well-characterized female protagonists in my games, so when I can, I prefer to.  You're essentially demanding that I play a certain way for content that ultimately isn't much of the game.  Do I enjoy that content?  Yes.  Do I enjoy it enough to play through the game all over again simply for that content?  Generally not.

I'm well within my rights to express disappointment that I may not be able to access Solas, or DHMG.  And more than likely one of them will be off-limits, unless I do bite the bullet and play as a dude.  I cannot foresee Cullen being bisexual, and I hate that for his male fans--especially since Bioware's rumored to have said "no mods," so... More than likely the elves will be bisexual.  They usually are.  I will be disappointed if there's no male elf option for my Dalish.  I think that's also understandable... if Solas is not on the table, she'll just have to be single.  Other playthroughs, maybe it won't matter quite so much.  A human warrior might be fine with Cullen.  Qunari might think DHMG is great.  But I know at least one of them is off limits, and maybe more--because Warden or Bull could be an option.

I never said that you weren't allowed to be upset, just that i think you might be overreacting a bit. Of course you're allowed to express your disappointment. I'll be disappointed right there with you. But to say that it's cut content or denying fans is simply incorrect.

I never said it was cut content, but it is explicitly denying fans, and it may even cost them some fans considering that several of the characters have pretty big fanbases already.

It won't cost them me, even if I don't get to pursue Solas or DHMG as anything other than friends.  I will be sorely disappointed, but I'll play anyway.  I'd already been thinking of doing a qunari playthrough because, well, qunari.  I'd thought I'd do a Dalish run after reading TME and the events going on with the elves.  So I'd be playing a Dalish anyway, and that will probably be my very first playthrough.  It will be disappointing if my Dalish mage ends up celibate.  I don't foresee her pursuing a non-elf, for a variety of reasons, not least of which is the fact that if she were to have children with a non-elf, her children would not be elves and the Dalish are having problems with low population already.  It will not be the end of the world, but yes, I will make it known that I am unhappy about it.

I'm starting to see why Bioware has been considering doing games without romance at all.  It makes things simpler.  We'd all be disappointed at first, but we'd go in expecting No Romance, and we'd go out experiencing Epic Friendships/Rivalries, and no one would be sore over not being able to pursue a romance that they'd been interested in.

Regardless, I also think Solas will be our Friday follower.  I really hope they announce whether he will be an LI as well, and for whom.  Again, I think they need to let that cat out of the bag sooner rather than later.  Otherwise I don't want to be within viewing distance of this forum when a bunch of people learn they can't romance their favored LI.  I am not the only person in the world who doesn't want to play the opposite gender, and some people don't want to play their own gender... so yeah...  It will get ugly.  Better to have it happen sooner than later.

I know that the defined sexualities will be well done, the characters will be exciting, and I can play as a man if I need to, but I did feel a really unexpected sinking feeling when I read the news.  Like Chibielf said earlier, it killed my buzz.

Bootsykk, I also self-insert (sometimes accidentally) in many of my playthroughs.  I cosplay and play games like Dragon Age so I can pretend I'm a badass super warrior/mage woman.  So far I've had trouble getting attached to male characters but I'm willing to try again to romance Solas or DHMG on my 2nd or 3rd playthrough.

On a happier note, I acquired TME and Deluxe DA:I preorders for PC and PS4 tonight!  My attempt to avoid Bioware products today was an epic failure

I wonder, will the character creator will allow us to create very effeminate men?  I'm not sure if I'd rather play a masculine or feminine man to do a m/m romance.

Not a fan of this LI news! Now I'm crossing my fingers for a straight or bisexual Solas, if he's a LI at all. I'm not planning on playing a male Inquisitor after I just played a male Hawke!

I feel ya there on it being simpler. I almost feel like it would be simpler overall to not mention if there will be romances, to add some element of surprise.

Also, if Solas is our Friday Follower, we'll get a nice influx of concept art and pretty screenshots of him~ more fuel for the thread!

Ahhh! I need to preorder mine already. But I need to be patient and wait for my next paycheck to make sure I have everything in order D:

also I usually just stick with elves for my effeminate male characters, you can make some of them awfully pretty. That is something to wonder though, if they'll have a body option or not (such as built, thin, or average). Could be pretty neat for some variation.

Yeah, there's not a chance in hell that I would play a male Inquisitor my first time through.  Not gonna happen.  Since Solas seems like a major player in the Fade story arc, I hope he's bisexual.  Everyone should have the opportunity to romance the LIs who are woven deepest into the main storyline of the game, imo.  The less involved companions are better candidates for restricted gender-preferences (again, it's just my opinion).

I've decided to do a thing where I switch back and forth between games. Female Warden, Male Hawke, Female Inquisitor, possibly male next character (I prefer playing women but for some reason rolling a male Hawke felt right). So at this point I'm not planning on playing a dude at all unless I REALLY fall in love with the gay LI. I would hope that the companions would have the bisexual slots while the NPCs are straight or gay so I still have hope for Solas!

Well, IF he's a LI. They can't make him so handsome and not let us have him! ...........except yes they can. Varric is a prime example  :crying:

It would have been a really interesting twist on the story had Morrigan been bisexual. Especially with the dark ritual.

Morrigan would go through it for the "greater good", regardless of her sexuality.

I'm holding off on my preorder, until I hear about that ultimate edition that they're supposedly arranging.  I doubt there will be physical goodies involved, but just in case...

And I really want that halla mount.  I wish they had a screenshot of it.  Halla!  Unfortunately I'd rather have a normal white halla than a red one...

With Solas's connection to the Fade, though, he's bound to be a major character in the game.  I think Vivienne may also have some hefty importance, politically speaking.  We already know Cassandra is highly important due to being a Seeker.

With Solas being a very important sort, and an elf to boot, his chances of being bisexual are rather high.  Cullen is more likely straight, which means that we straight ladies will forever be pining for DHMG.  If I'm right, in any case, which it's definitely possible I am not--and perhaps we would get Warden and Iron Bull instead.  It's usually younger characters who are LIs however...

Regardless I'm with Banxey:  important characters should be available to everyone, so everyone can feel tied in with the plot.  DHMG being unavailable would be a disappointment, but it wouldn't be an epic disappointment unless he had huge bearing on the plot.  If Cullen has interesting plot elements involved and if he turns out more interesting than I remember, I might decide to pursue him at some point.  At the moment though I am slogging through DA:O again, and it is going much slower than I remember playing it in the past.  Again, less time to play nowadays.

This would have been a really touching moment, a situation where she'd have to hurt her lover to save her life (I felt that way when I asked Alistair to do the dark ritual).  Hmm, this brings to mind the Anders/Karl situation.  My heart would have broken in two if Anders had said something like "I'll always love you" before knifing Karl.  Ugh, there would have been tears for sure.

And Banxey, DAT ASS.  I appreciate the picture for sure ;)

OMG my husband pointed out that I make a weird face every time I look at my desktop (it's the new Solas/Cassandra screenshot we got today). Eeep I was pretty embarrassed.

Edit:

Inquisitor on their site and in the trailer looks kind of feminine.

I did notice that!  The face inside the helmet looked quite beautiful, but the...crotch... region threw me off.

I think there must be Halla in the game and that pre-order one is just a special variant (though I hope there are some restrictions on who can ride Halla, but I doubt it). And I'm also holding off buying the game until I can get the seriously overpriced version w/ bonus statue of Vivienne's hat or something.

I can´t wait to ride horses!

Anyways, is it only me who thinks he looks way to human? He has a human face, without those typical DA2 elf feature, and thats a bummer. I like DA2 elves. The only elf-like about him is his ears.

Regarding playersexuality. Its a stupid argument about its more "real" with orientations restricted, like in real life. This is fantasy, they throw fires out of their hands! Come on! Maybe the people of Thedas are a bunch a hippies who care more for their soul than their body (like Anders said), and hence the bisexuality is normal/common among people. And the Inquisitioner is so awesome, anyone could turn gay *wahaha*  BW can basicly do whatever they want.

I just want all options, as I don´t like to play female. I hate being forced to play female because the LI I want doesn´t like this or that.

I've already been preparing myself for the likelihood that the romances would be gated.  If Solas isn't gay or bi, my Quizzy will be romancing Cass instead.  But Solas is still going to be on my party regardless.
