As for the LI debate, weeeeeell it won't be pretty if Solas is the bi option and Dorian the gay. We're going to see a LOT of complaints about that, I predict. Such as: eeeew bald people 

 

And yet, to me it seems most likely that Solas will be a bisexual option, not only because he's an elf and "everybody" (the quotation marks added to mean not really everybody, but, you know...) is supposed to want the elves, but because he appears to be one of the first people we'll run into, in most playthroughs (he is shown in-party with Cassandra and Varric, whom I presume will be the very first companions we get).  I somehow doubt they would want to lock out the LGBT community from one of the first characters we meet, because those are usually the main ones.  Anything less than letting everyone have him, is basically saying their preference is not as important...

I actually love Dorian's vivid blue eyes in the fan art. 

 

Solas has pretty interesting eyes, too, though. I'm still thinking that violet might be some kind of tie back to Felassan. Definitely a big coincidence that they'd both have violet eyes when it's something we haven't seen on another elf that I remember before.

 

I thought maybe they were making the elves have odd eye colours in an attempt to make them a little different from humans now that they no longer have giant eyes.

Yeah we definitely meet Cass and Varric very early on then I think we'll meet Vivienne next and Solas after that. They'll be our first four, which makes sense considering I think they'll be the four most important companion characters.

Personally I would be fine with it. Brown eyes would go well with the tall, dark, and handsome thing he's got going.

 

Scratch the tall part actually. He's amusingly short in the trailer, which I hope is a thing. He's shorter than Solas, and approx the same height as Sera. Lol.

I guess about a 5 if fan sobbing is 10. I really do love the striking look of them in the fan art, but he's still really attractive in the war table scene without a clear view of his eye color. He looked way better than I was expecting, so I'll still be happy if he doesn't change much otherwise. lol

I'm about the same! Only because a guy with dark hair and blue eyes is my real life ideal and if DHMG has that, then he'll have it goin' on even more! Though I wouldn't be opposed to a warm brown or a striking green. I think green would suit him too.

Well to be fair, their eyes, according to the novels, were always meant to be unusually intense.  More vibrant colors, and maybe larger than human eyes, and more reflective (they see particularly well at night, compared to humans).  And yet, Fiona had brown eyes, but they were just as intense as Katriel's green eyes.  Felassan's are violet, which--I'm like Mort--I suspect may connect Solas to Felasan somehow.  Related, or something, or... maybe their eyes become violet after being in uthenera?

I'm about the same! Only because a guy with dark hair and blue eyes is my real life ideal and if DHMG has that, then he'll have it goin' on even more! Though I wouldn't be opposed to a warm brown or a striking green. I think green would suit him too.

The dark hair/light eyes combo is my boyfriend's type and the fan art I showed him sold him on Dorian since he wasn't digging the 'stache. (Blasphemy around these parts, I know!) So, I don't want to be the one to tell him it's not happening. lol

Well, it wouldn't HAVE to be.  Violet eyes in human beings are pretty rare, but with elves having unusually intense eyes, it might not be so uncommon within the elves of Thedas.  But then again, for all we know, it might have once been the mark of nobility in elves in ancient times.

 

Still, while I feel like it is a striking coincidence, along with his being a Fade expert and having heavy dark circles under his eyes (as Felassan was described as having), there may very well be no connection whatsoever.  Sometimes, a coincidence is just that.  And yet, if there's something to that coincidence, I suppose we'll know it the moment they tell us that Weekes wrote Solas.  If anyone else wrote Solas, we can just mark it out as a coincidence and nothing more.

Well, I didn't like what he ended up doing in the novel, but you can't argue that he wasn't mostly decent to Briala.  Mostly.

 

I don't think they would be the same person, unless, you know, demons.  But they may be connected, via nobility, or blood relation, or something else.

 

I kind of have a weird theory that elves would be human, if not for magical influence--because elven traits like eye or hair color can be inherited, but anything distinctly elven disappears forever from the children of an elf with any other race.  If that theory held true, then something like violet eyes could just as easily be due to magical influence.

Also, how do you think Solas would dress if he was here in modern day? Maybe he'd be wearing really tight hipster skinny jeans!

I personally kind of hope he turns out to be an ancient elf, whether or not he's tied in with Felassan.  It would also explain why he looks so tired--because he should be in uthenera.  I doubt that theory will end up true, however, unless it does indeed tie in somehow with Felassan...

 

What if, though, that idea about violet eyes = nobility turned out to be true?  And elven nobles have been planning from the Fade, or the realm of the eluvians, to retake what they lost?  What are a few hundred years, if you're immortal, anyway?

I don't think he was decent to Briala until the end of the book. But I felt he had a good death, and keeping him alive would ruin that for me.

 

And while having Solas connected to Felessan would be interesting, I find the concept of someone in Thedas doing their own research and being unconnected to anyone more interesting, though that is more than likely not going to be the case.

I dunno, he seems like an outdoorsy type.  Part of me thinks the tight pants are probably because it's all he could find/acquire.  Or maybe he made them himself and just isn't very good with sizing things.  Because let's be honest, those would not be very convenient or comfortable traveling trousers.  Actually tight leather is about the worst kind of thing you could wear for armor, if you were heading into combat... it would restrict your mobility horribly.  Not to mention the things it'd do to your circulation.

 

But the tight pants are yet another point in his favor as a romantic interest.  You notice Cassandra, a confirmed LI, also has tight pants.  They're more than likely showing off that elven behind for a reason, ladies and gents, and it's not because he's secretly a body builder.
