I can't get over that a couple of you could even consider Corypheus remotely cute. He looks like he went through that teleporter from The Fly with a piece of metallic dragon bone or something.  Also, welcome new people (or people who have changed their names and I just don't recognise them). :)

As for the theories, it would be and interesting twist to meet him in the Fade first. But I'm not sure how that would work out. Cass doesn't see anyone else, and the game isn't made sequentially. So the screenshots could be from any part. As far as Solas being an early companion, it might be a case similar to the other games where doing certain quests unlocks companions in any order. Which is a good thing, we'll probably have a quest along the lines of "explore the ancient Elvhen breeches store in the caverns under the Dales" which we can do at any time after the initial part of the game and we'll find Solas there. But I think we'll end up with Varric and Cass first before anyone else.

Also, it seems there's a little DAO vs. DA2 thing going on here. My vote is for DAO. I liked both games. But DA2 just didn't have the same feel for me. I loved being a CE Warden.

@ Cezelle: I uh... I don't believe there is a candy part as I was completely and utterly wrong in my assuming is was a candy. But there are apparently sweet versions of the pepper? I am just concerned it could be alluding to him bottling up his feelings and then exploding. Actually, I'm just concerned something will happen and I'll end up killing my party mages again.  : <

@ Banxey: Thank you kindly for the welcome!

And drat! I forgot that it isn't made sequentially. In my mind I was all like 'this totally make sense', but forgot some important questions answered about gameplay. I also wonder as some game footage released a while back has Cassandra, Varric, and Vivienne (not Solas) in it. Given, it could be early in the game but not the beginning. Obviously I need to go back and refresh my memory. However, it doesn't entirely rule out that the player could encounter him first and then find him later in the game, but it does challenge having him being the third member of your party.

And ohhhh! Fancy screen-shot. One of those super awesome PC players then?

- - -

I also randomly thought about Morrigan upon pondering alternatives as to how the Inquisitor walks out of the fade. I kind of neglected her because all I've been thinking about is the new trailer, which she isn't in, and the most recent screen-shots. Certainly her role in the game will have some weight, especially if her character in featured in a trailer, maybe it has to deal with the beginning.

Ugh, I just feel like I'm running around in circles and second guessing myself as there's not much substance or evidence to go on at this time.

Oh yeah I'm actually kind of confused about the scotch bonnet candy part now, apparantly only the scotch bonnet is the pepper so I naturally assumed it would be sweeter or candied or something? That could be completely wrong and just my weird imagination though :P I really want to avoid another Anders situation too.. I really didn't like the guy but I didn't have the heart to kill him. If something like that would happen with Solas too I'll be crying in a corner somewhere for a few days...

EDIT: They did actually post that he was scotch bonnet candy right? Not just scotch bonnet, or am I just being massively confused right now?

He is candied hot peppers yes, not just the peppers!

......It also occurs to me that the screenshot with everyone freaking out and Solas in the background smirking....kind of supports the idea of him being a Judas figure. He's smiling in the shadows while everything is getting chaotic....NOOOOO please I REALLY don't want him to betray us! I don't want any of our companions to betray us it's getting so ooooooooooold it's not even fun anymore!!

Ahh sorry about that. I just don't find plot twists like that fun or clever anymore and I will be legitimately pissed off if that's what happens. Not just because I'd be attached to the characters but because I find it cheesy and annoying from a story perspective. Been there done that, man.

Also, I LOVE the idea of us meeting him in the fade first! He doesn't necessarily have to physically come out of it with the Inquisitor, does he? He might guide us out of the Fade and then we physically meet him later in the game once we're with Cass and Varric and posssibly Vivienne.

I think they did say scotch bonnet candy. Which is...a made-up thing, I guess?  Spicy and sweet (and maybe kind of odd, to boot, because...peppers in candy?) works for me, in any case!  In the war room art he's got that little smirk I love, and he has a sharp, clever face.  I'm torn between him and Cullen at the moment (yeah, I'm a thread cheater too...I have a weakness for the sweet boy-next-door thing he and Alistair have going on), though I also love DHMG and his Errol Flynn flair.  I have a weird feeling I'm not going to be able to have him with my female Inquisitor, but we'll see.  It's probably going to wind up like Origins, where I enjoyed both Alistair and Zev so much that whoever I chose, I always felt guilty about neglecting the other one.

@Banxey, LOVE your new profile pic!  Vivi is already one of my favorite characters.  Powerful and self-assured with an acerbic wit is a great combo...one of the reasons I loved Morrigan, even though I pulled the occasional "disapprove -20" out of her.  Great shot of your CE warden too.  I've been feeling the itch to play again, but I'm not sure I can deal with the Fade one more %#&$ time.  And I'm a console player, so I can't get that great mod to skip it.

ETA: Forgot to mention, in the "little details they should tell us about Solas" department, that I think he should have a pet mouse that hangs out in his furry shoulder thing.  One that he can occasionally be seen feeding crumbs to.  I realize this is heading into Solas-as-Disney-princess territory, but it would be cute.  He looks like the kind of guy who'd hang out with woodland creatures.  Besides, somebody needs to have a pet, since I've seen no evidence of mabari and Ser Pounce-a-Lot is, well...relocated.  :crying:

Oh gosh I accidentally read a tweet from Greg Ellis that he's singing as Cullen, I'm so jealous right now.. I wasn't particularly fond of him in DA2 but he's actually a bit milder with the mage stuff than I remember, and he was so cute in the mage origin... Oh no, I'm going to the dark side! Save me with more Solas info Bioware!

So, since the subject of Scotch Bonnet Candy came up, I consorted with Google. Wasn't too helpful, but I imagine it's just candied versions of the Scotch Bonnet Pepper? Sort of makes me think of Red Hots or Atomic Fireballs, a candy that's both sweet but also sorta hot and spicy. Definitely something people are likely to either love or hate with little in-between.

I did find parts of this article interesting, especially if any of the overall concepts may apply to Solas's possible personality. I extracted a few interesting bits:

"A Scotch bonnet pepper may sound timid, but it is nothing of the sort. It’s one of the spicier peppers (100,000 to 350,000 SHU, same as a habanero)."

"Why the Caribbean? Because this is THE pepper of the region. In fact if you say you want a hot pepper in most of the Caribbean islands, the Scotch bonnet pepper is what you are handed. Scotch bonnet is used in all sorts of Caribbean cuisine, including the well-known jerk chicken (or jerk pork)."

"This chili has a slightly sweet taste to it, sort of like a tomato with an slight hint of apples and cherries. It’s very closely related to the habanero, so if you’ve tasted a habanero you’ll have a decent idea of what a Scotch bonnet has in store for you in terms of heat. Just add in more sweetness."

"This sweetness makes the Scotch bonnet a very popular chili for Caribbean cooking and hot sauces. It’s a really distinct sweet-heat flavor that a lot of people love."

Candying peppers tends to make them less hot, from what I can tell, so that could factor in too. Though perhaps we're all just reading WAY too much into this

Whooooa! I never said I thought he was cute lol...just he sounded like a lost puppy! :P

Which he does the poor guy don't know where he's at or how long he's slumbered!

I do like DA:O and ME1 just not as much as the second games sadly I literaly got bored playing DA:O after playing it for 4 days and I wasn't even halfway done yet,I guess I was just so darn eager to get to the end after playing it that long lol .  :)

+ I didn't know Alistair was going to dump my mage...that broke my heart right there! :'(

I don't think so...if he knows ways to get in he will definitely know ways to get out...or maybe he just guides us like you said just not physically......Oooooh OCTOBER COME TO MEEEEE!!!!!!!!........

.....sorry just wish it was October now lol

Also forgive me where are my manners.. Welcome CARPOOL and byeshoe to the Solas thread! ^_^

I have used Scotch Bonnets in cooking (I make a Ceviche with them or habaneros), and they do have a sweetness to them. They are also used quite often in conjunction with chocolate. The chocolatier a few blocks away from me, does Scotch Bonnet/Habanero chocolate caramels, and a fudge with Scotch Bonnets. There is also a small chain of candy stores (this totally nabbed off of Google) called Scotch Bonnet Candies. Whether that was an inspiration from his writer....*shrug*.

As for how I see the food relating, I don't see them incongruous with each other so much, but more sweet with heat. ;) Which is why I still picture him with little in the way of a vocal "filter" (foot-in-mouthitis), but with a fairly sweet disposition. If that makes sense.

Or, like others have pondered......reading too much into it.

So it IS the candy then? Yeah, I don't know then. I'm afraid I'm thinking too much about this such as 'how does the color/ texture/ region and times it grows/ how does it mix with other foods/ other mumbo-jumbo have to relate to this character?' I hope it's just something as simple as spicy and sweet, mean but polite.

@ Cezelle & Rnyj:
In my mind, plot twists are okay IF they're not a character you feel attached to. A selfish way to look at it, but realistic nonetheless. I was pretty pissed at Anders, and didn't romance him in my game, so I felt no regrets when stabbing him for his actions. (Well, aside from doing so got rid of my healer, but what do you do?)

I also do not believe Solas is the Judas/betrayer character until proven otherwise. Why? I have faith that the writers and art directors are smart enough not to borrow too much from the Christ story/ imagery. Yeah, you have the Inquisitor/Christ figure in the middle and the 12 supporters/apostles, but I do not believe we need to start cross-referencing them with every corresponding apostle. In other words, it is to be taken lightly or with a grain of salt.

@ Cezelle & Dracarys:
Ha ha, I must say the Cullen singing has caught my attention. (More the why though.) You all shouldn't feel bad, it sets you up for potentially less disappointment later. More often than not the characters that catch my attention are usually off limits to romance.

@ Roxy:

I was thinking about Sindri for my dalish inquisitor, kinda sounds nice with Solas :P But I'm not sure yet, probably Asalaan for my qunari inquisitor, I really like the name of Sten's sword Asala, so I tweaked that a bit but I don't have a clue what kind of names qunari are supposed to have since normally they all take their titles as names.

For my elf mage, I've been whipping my head between Sorrel, Shirin (shy-rin), and Quory (ku-oh-ree) although the last one is probably the least lore-friendly of them all.

(Also, long time no post! I am duly impressed at the prodigious rate this thread is increasing.)

You all have nice name ideas! I am painfully un-creative when it comes to naming things. My canon Hawke's name is Aiden after a friend of mine and my Cousland's name is Reina. And yes, she becomes queen just like her name would suggest. Because I'm the most creative person there is.

/laughs loudly/

Not at all. I spend all this time designing Inquisitors (or characters in general), but always put off names until the last minute. Then again, I'm not really sure where to start when coming up with Qunari/ Kossith names, and if she (or he, as I will probably play a male at some point) could have a more 'normal' name if they're Vashoth. I better do my research this time, unless I want a repeat of my Skyrim Orc.

In any event all of yours sound authentic, truly. They're not like... Bob or something.

I wonder if Solas would smoke. Hmmm.

Edit: Also, in the spirit of naming, is there a real life language(s) that the Qunari language is based off of? Then I could start at least looking for suitable name ideas.

Hehe...sorry I had to do that Coldy! ^_^

@CARPOOL I don't think he's a "Judas" either...I can understand how and why people are speculating that but I just think it's "The Inquisitor with his companions planning on saving the World" kind of thing when I see that part of the video... I just don't see this 'Last supper" theory when I watch it and I'm a religious person. I also think just like in the other DA games you can become friends with your companions and they won't betray you. :)

Oooh..a party count me in if that happens lol!

@RynJ Names...I always go to google and type baby names when I play these type of games...I usually go with unique, religious or old fashioned names...like Finn,Jack,Grace,Elizabeth etc.  :)

I probably will name my Female Inquisitor either Abigail or Ysabel and my Male Benjamin...or Elliot.  ^_^
