There are some qunari sentences on the wiki where you can take some ideas from, but I'm not sure if it's based off a language. http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Qunlat So that might be helpful :)

I have a lot of different names already picked for my Inquisitors. I tend to use Aramaic or make up my own names for my Dalish characters. Two of my inquisitors (race undecided) will be named after a Star Wars OC.

- Tau'ma

- Dar'sheva

- Hjordis

- Nahor

- Jae-sang

- Naiyat

- Sath'ka

/laughs loudly/

Not at all. I spend all this time designing Inquisitors (or characters in general), but always put off names until the last minute. Then again, I'm not really sure where to start when coming up with Qunari/ Kossith names, and if she (or he, as I will probably play a male at some point) could have a more 'normal' name if they're Vashoth. I better do my research this time, unless I want a repeat of my Skyrim Orc.

In any event all of yours sound authentic, truly. They're not like... Bob or something.

Bob the Qunari might just be one of my playthroughs.

Cassandra: *with the sword to Inq's throat still* Don't take another step! Tell me who you are!

Inq: Bob.

Cassandra: .........Bob?

Inq: Bob.

Cassandra: ........

Cassandra: *turns to Varric* Clearly he's lying. I'm going to slit his throat.

(Perhaps short for Robert, for anyone who saw and remembers the shenanigans in the Cullen thread  ;) )

Which is why I still picture him with little in the way of a vocal "filter" (foot-in-mouthitis), but with a fairly sweet disposition. If that makes sense.

I could easily see him being Brutally Honest. Which can be both a great and an awful thing.

I still don't know what to name my hopefully Solas-romancing Inquisitor! Her name has to sound good with Solas's....hmmmm...

Any of you guys have names lined up?

Haven't played around too much with them, but Endara for my female Dalish mage was a thought. So was Athyra for maybe a female human warrior (or maybe a female Qunari rogue or warrior), but that's always a default feminine name I seem to use in basically every RPG ever. LOL

Oh, and wondering if anyone's got a close zoom-in shot of that creepy animal jawbone necklace Solas has? Interested in trying to identify it (if someone hasn't already). My first guess is it's the bottom jawbone of a deer, but that's just an incredibly rough estimate from the fuzzy shots.

I once made a derpy-do-da-day Hawke (my Hawkes often had a name, then a somewhat "descriptive nickname", based on how they were RP'd), that was meant to romance Merrill, who I named "Todd". Later, I named a favorite hat in Dragon's Dogma with that same name, cuz reasons....*shifty eyes*

Spoiler

Soooo.....Bob sounds good. ;)

I have resorted to reusing names that I like, across DA, ME and DD. There will be a Ulee, Chase, Ari, Castor, and Mace Inquistor, at the very least. And I'm sure I will make up a few new ones as well. Tis fun. ;)

Human Female Rogue or Sword and Shield - Miralda/Lucatiel Trevelyan

Qunari Female - Kelebek (=Butterfly) / Nesrin (=Wild Rose) Adaar (Qunlat is supposed to be kinda based off of Turkish so.. Turkish names!)

Avaaya/Resaana Adaar (<-- Made up ones.)

Elven Female - Caha/Laelynne/Avetra Lavallan

Dwarven Female - Fura/Orza/Irona/Elyse/Runa Cadash

I have no idea what I'll play as first.. maybe an Elf called Lucatiel.. or.. or.... er.. ITS TOO HARD TO CHOOSE! :pinched:

Also I'm dying to know who voices Solas and what they sound like.

Ugh.. I hate waiting! :)

I dug around in that Qunlat page on the wiki awhile ago and decided my female Qunari (probably 2h warrior) would be Asha, since Ash means "to seek" and, um, is pretty.

My initial playthrough is going to be a female elven...well, rogue or mage, had been thinking rogue but the whole Knight Enchanter thing has put that up in the air for me again because AW was such a blast to play in Origins...anyway, she'll be dark-haired and sarcastic and I'll call her Leila, which the internets tell me means "dark beauty" in Arabic.

Coming up with character names is almost as time consuming for me as applying makeup in the character creator.  I have serious and ongoing problems finding the sweet spot between "natural beauty" and "just got off my shift at The Pearl."

This seems to be a common problem with naming Dragon Age PCs, from what I can see. I laugh every time I come across a Warden or Hawke name that looks like a stripper name   I have to be careful of that myself.

This made me laugh!  When my character starts to remind me of Ke$ha, I know I've gone too far >.<

For names... I generally use the same 4 Wheel of Time character names (Ispan, Temaile, Falion, Chesmal) but I've been writing down different names for a while so I don't get stuck doing the same thing over and over.  I love Scandinavian names, but in case you didn't notice, j'adore les noms francais aussi.  French names are just so freaking cute!

Ladies:

- Temaile: Human Warrior/Mage <---- my #1 name for the last few years

- Marit: Qunari anything

- Wren: Dalish Rogue

- Aurelie: Dalish Mage

Gents:

- Lucien: Dalish/Human Mage

- August: Warrior

- Etienne: Human Rogue

Side note, DAA & DA2 screwed up my dude name.  I ALWAYS used Anders (that was even my baby boy name of choice, damn you!) but now it just feels used :P  I'd prefer my children don't share names with characters I've had e-sex with >.>

Okay, I think I have come to the conclusion that the jawbone hanging on Solas's necklace may belong to a halla? Possibly? Would make sense as that is a sacred animal to elves, although to the Dalish specifically rather than city elves.

I say this because the amateur paleontologist in me was dying to try and solve what it was. It's definitely some sort of deer/cow/sheep/goat lower jawbone. The thing throwing me off is how quickly the end of it curves... most of the bones I've looked at online have a more gradual curve, which is why it makes me think halla because that is a deer-like creature that doesn't actually exist in the real world (apologies if that was shocking or a spoiler to anyone ;) ).

Here was the reference picture:

Solashd.png

And here were some of the similar ones I found from real critters. I have hidden the images in spoiler tags in case anyone is squeamish about animal bones.

Spoiler

The above is a 15,000-year-old red deer lower left jaw.

Spoiler

The above is a 10,000-year-old wild cow lower right jaw. It has the more abrupt curve at the end.

The fact that the only time you really come across black bones is when they are fossilized or beginning the fossilization process makes me think the bone Solas has is an old, old bone. If it was something fresh or that he took from a kill, the likely thing to do is to bleach it, which dissolves all the organic material and makes them white. Of course, he's a mage, so he also could have incinerated the organic matter off and such a process might also blacken bone, but the thing just seems to have more of a fossilized look to me.

It also appears to be from a juvenile, I would say, as it's awfully small. Now, there are some relatively small deer species, but I'm led to believe the halla are more closer kin to horses in size, considering they pull the aravels and were also ridden by the ancient elves.

Could be a demon bone, or a partial jawbone mounted on a handle of other material. The upper part looks too straight and uniform, and the lower part protrudes past it in an odd spur.

*dies laughing*  Yes.  This is a good policy.  And I've had more than one character come out accidentally looking like Ke$ha and Marilyn Manson's love child (dramatic eyeshadow--less is more).  Also, love your names, especially Lucien.  That's always been one of my favorites.

@DragonRacer  Those pics are definitely close!  Do you think it might be from a juvenile halla?  Maybe one that had significance to him, or that died young but had some feature that was deemed to be auspicious?  Maybe he wears it for luck or protection.  I really hope there's a story there!

Sorry for the mass reply people. But I had to sleep! It's my one.. uh.. one of my many weaknesses. The other is wine which apparently mixes very badly with cough medicine. I'll try to make this as short as possible.

Obviously I need to go back and refresh my memory. However, it doesn't entirely rule out that the player could encounter him first and then find him later in the game, but it does challenge having him being the third member of your party.

And ohhhh! Fancy screen-shot. One of those super awesome PC players then?

You're right of course, I completely blanked on that part of your theory. I was distracted by Corypheus love and wine. I also play on both consoles and PC, so don't worry I'm not going to start any "Master Race" talk. :)

Ahh sorry about that. I just don't find plot twists like that fun or clever anymore and I will be legitimately pissed off if that's what happens. Not just because I'd be attached to the characters but because I find it cheesy and annoying from a story perspective. Been there done that, man.

I agree. It would be more of a surprise if someone didn't betray us. It's a bit like watching M. Night Shyamalan movies, where you're just waiting for the super special surprise ending and then you realise you saw it coming because you were trying to figure it out all along.

Whooooa! I never said I thought he was cute lol...just he sounded like a lost puppy! :P

Which he does the poor guy don't know where he's at or how long he's slumbered!

Oops sorry. But you feel bad for him! You're supposed to kill it with fire! Lots and lots of fire. :P

The highest resolution we have of that image is this one. If you have Chrome you can use the menu to zoom right in but it's dark and difficult to see. I would try to adjust it, but I'm currently back and forth between this and working. Anyone else got lightroom or photoshop?

Gents:

- Lucien: Dalish/Human Mage

- August: Warrior

- Etienne: Human Rogue

I really, really wanted to play as an Orlesian. And the names I chose for my initial playthrough were based on that idea before it crashed and burned with the VO announcement. So it's funny that you have Etienne, because he was supposed to be my male quizzy. :P

Could be. As far as the "spur" on the lower part, that looks like it could just be more teeth. Like in the below example of a sheep's lower jawbone:

I'd certainly hope at least one of my Inquisitors can ask about it. I mean, the man is wearing nearly 1/4 of an animal's skull around his neck. And it's not just like some "generic badass" thing like a claw or a tooth. We're talking freaking half of a creature's lower jaw. That's hardcore. Also, obviously assuming it has magical or superstitious properties, but still hardcore, dude.

Yes, my guess is juvenile due to its rather small size. Unless they have Key deer in Thedas.

Horribly wild speculation guessed on past horribly wild speculation: Solas is, indeed, one of the ancient elves and the jawbone was from his pet halla that died while it was still a mere babe (bonus points if it was brutally murdered by invading shemlen). Its magical, fossilized jaw is what allowed him to hop back and forth willy-nilly to and from the Fade like someone playing hopscotch down a sidewalk.  :wizard:

ARE YOU HAPPY, DAVID GAIDER? NO MORE NICHOLAS CAGE COMPARISONS AND ACCIDENTAL MEME-BIRTHING. I AM OVER-ANALYZING DEAD ANIMAL BITS NOW.

Solas is so hardcore. Animal fang? Pfffft that's for wussies. Solas takes the jawbone! He'd wear the whole skull if it wouldn't get annoying to carry around.

Confused and freaking out about something? Inquisitor stabbing a map in an angry show of aggression? Solas will just stand in the background and smirk at your silliness. Now now, children, calm down.

Going to the most fashionable city in Thedas? Hold on, wait a moment while Solas squeezes into the most unfashionable pants to ever exist. That's right, he's so hardcore that he'll wear PAJAMAS AND A VEST to your fancy ball and DARE you to say anything about it!

Need someone to tell you about the Fade? The thing that's causing the world to all but end? Talk to Solas. He won't freak out while demons are pouring into Thedas! He'll just stand there, calm as ever, and explain things to you while the world falls apart around you.

Also, he's a mage. Like, he can set you on fire and stuff with a flick of his finger. How hardcore is that?

This has been: reasons why Solas is (could be. Possibly. This is pure speculation) a badass.

Oh, I just canNOT wait to put Vivienne and Solas together in a room. Because while Orlesians wear animal bits, too... they seem to gravitate towards the pretty, not-so-squicky things like peacock feathers.

Also, dying at your whole bit about the whole animal skull. That just gave me an AWFUL mental image of Solas wearing an entire halla skull, bouncing around as ridiculously as Flava Flav with that clock around his neck.
