I'm not quite sure why so many people are insistent on BEM being the bald mage from the concept art Apostates**. Literally, the only evidence you have is that he's a mage and bald. Some are spouting off on similar clothing. In the War Room concept art and in a few other pieces, BEM has a large swathe of fur across his chest, coming from one shoulder. In DA:O There are plenty of robes that have the fur shoulder pads that you see in the Apostates concept art. You guys are going crazy with the speculation here. Tone it down a bit. The man's ears aren't even Elven, for cryin' out loud! One old piece of concept art of a bald mage setting fire to some leaves, and people leave this thread believing the BEM to be a runaway Dalish mage that does blood magic.

And I don't see anybody going overboard with speculation - just pointing out that a character in a piece of concept art wearing the same clothing as a companion, who has similar physical features, is more likely to be the same person than a random character we've never heard of. Unless you think there are two significant bald mages wearing the same style of clothing.

 

After all, that art must have been drawn for a reason. There's a woman holding a baby and someone else performing blood magic, and if I had to guess they are a part of whatever storyline is happening here.

Is the elf in war room BEM?! Im so happy. Still hoping for that sexy hair. And which concept is "new home"? Where did Gaider sstate this?

And does he appear in the new novel? I need to start reading Asunder...

To be fair, I recall that he stated that it's an older version, as the concept in A new Home (it's the concept with the female dwarf Inquisitor. I'll find the link and post). The most accurate so far is the pre-alpha shot with the various clothes that was shown at December.
I don't know if they'll add hair for him at this point. Though even of I'm comptely fine with him being bald, I liked how he looked in the war room concept.

As for Gaider's post, you can see here, in the fourth post (http://forum.bioware...mage/?bioware=1) that he commented the A New Home concept saying that they released concepts with a different versions of the elf, which definitely referred to the War Room concept.

Apparently Mr. Gaider is "the one" writing him. Jaj! Just add hair, and my dreams come true. Although I guess Id get used to bald... Just love the though of him having shaved head on both sides, with a ponytail.

I like the idea of BEM being involved in a elven rebellion in the Dales. He gives off a Sharatan vibe and if there are parrelles between the characters that could be really interesting. Just pure speculation. Learning more about the Dales and the Elven plight in Orlais in DAI would be awesome. Having a character in the heart of the situation would be a perspective we havent seen before. The possibilities could be endless. He could be for peace between humans and elves or he could be predjiduce against humans, which if you play a human quizzy could cause tension. Or just a snarky rebel Mage with a glorious bald head with his own agenda.

I'm starting to lean toward he is not Dorian at all. My original theory was fancy facial hair was Dorian and even if that name has changed or character, I'm leaning toward Fancy being from Tevinter.

I agree, though there's always the possibility that Dorian was cut or significantly changed some time in the last two years.

 

(Although now that I think about it that seems pretty unlikely, given that DA:I was meant to come out in late 2013 and the survey was only leaked a year earlier in September 2012. You'd think companions would be locked down, by then.)

 

There's also another elven character (the blonde rogue) who could give more insight into the elven rebellion, though her bio did say she was more attuned to the underworld of the human cities. Neither BEM or the blonde rogue look very Dalish, which might mean some interesting interactions when we actually have to deal with representatives of the Dales.

Just FYI, however, it's Solas. Not Solace. Not sure where they got that.

 

And, since this seems to be a persistent notion: Solas is not the "Dorian" from the survey. He was never that character. As to who Solas is... well, I suppose you'll all have to wait and see.

Expected this from the beginning. Did not understand this whole "Dorian is the bald elf mage" hype that dragged on for like half a year

Haha, I got that rather badly wrong. First I thought he was Dorian or at least an evolution of that early concept, and then I thought he was a Masked Empire character. Oh well, I'm glad to have a name at last.

I Agree,Solas is indeed a very pretty name,to be honest anything is better than "Bald Elf Mage"...
