To me his necklace thingy looks like the claw of a big cat, I dunno.

 

As cool as big cat claws are, the indentations on the interior edge scream "flat, plant-eater teeth" to me.

Thank you! This is a Solas discussion and speculation thread after all. I should probably not be spamming it with other things. (Though I wouldn't count on me finishing another picture tonight, not unless it's just Iron Bull hiding behind Solas)

But gosh, I'm glad you came up with that prompt. Without the release of Solas information I've been twiddling my thumbs trying to better figure out his characterization. (given that didn't feature Solas but...)

I'm glad you all are trying to figure out what's on his necklace. I didn't even think it was a jaw until I started sifting through this thread. All my old pictures have me totally guessing what it is. (I think I just drew it as a strangely shaped rock before.) But I like the theory, thus far, about it being a Deer or a halla (sp). Can't think of it belonging to a carnivore or a human... ha... ha ha.... ... ...

No, it's definitely not human.  Human jawbones are shaped pretty distinctly.

 

It is definitely an herbivore, and not a particularly huge one, either.  The teeth on it are blunt.  So, yes, probably halla, or some other hoofed critter.

Oh goodness, wouldn't that be a funny twist. IT'S A NUG. A NUG OF ALL THINGS. They do have them outside the dwarven underground areas right? If those things I saw in the trailer before the dragon came landing were nugs. Ohhhhh, but one of his old concept art posts has him with a dwarf Inquisitor, right? I assume dwarf because she's shorter than him but... maybe he's just a tall elf. He is about the same height, if not taller, than Cassandra at the 'we are the Inquisition' screen-shot.

It is a mystery.

Hm, could be a nug, at that.  The jaw shape would certainly be similar, and nugs get to be a pretty decent size.  They seem to be herbivores.  Though the jawbone does appear to be from something with hooves, it is possible.

I guess it would depend then on if a nug is more like a rabbit or a pig. Pigs have hooves.

If it is some sort of halla jaw bone, I wonder if it'd be something like Anders' magical feathers.  Don't they enhance his healing powers?  Maybe there's something to the legends that the halla carry elves to the afterlife and the halla bone magnifies his connection to the Fade or something similar.

No need to apologize...This is actually brilliant!If it's indeed a Halla jaw bone,I really wonder where he'd find it...I kind of  have this theory that he originates from a dalish clan but was unfortunate enough,for some reason, to be taken into the circle at a young age hence the lack of Vallaslin.

We were speculating about this possibility a few weeks ago but then the idea of Solas being an ancient elf or connected to Felassan was our topic of speculation for a while.

I don't know, I think it could make for a nice romance story in which he learns to appreciate and love the "quick ones" he used to look down on.
