Hope is strong. It's the last thing to die. But when it dies, it dies painfully  :crying:

Solasssssss don't forsake meeeeeee (ahem, I mean my Inquisitor. Yes.)

I hope he's one!Why would they make the only male elf companion with the most brilliant violet/lilac eyes unromanceable, is beyond me...

Hm, could be a nug, at that.  The jaw shape would certainly be similar, and nugs get to be a pretty decent size.  They seem to be herbivores.  Though the jawbone does appear to be from something with hooves, it is possible.

Is it just me, or does the shape kind of match.

You do you, that's all you can do. I also feel a bit strange fighting for a character I know little to nothing about as a love interest, which is why I can say I'm crossing my fingers to get a bit more information come follower friday. That and what I currently like about this character is based in speculation, rumor, and what we can see on the surface.

Including the fact that he pretty much runs around in pajamas. PAJAMAS! AND HE HAS A CUTE LITTLE BACKPACK TOO. WHAT ARE YOU SOLAS? 10? YOU PRECIOUS BABY. /gone

I love every point you've made <3 i'm really quite confident he'll be an option, so I'll be totally flabbergasted and destroyed if he's not. I'm not holding back at all (yes, this is my first time following a Bioware game pre release, how'd you guess? :P).

But if they're not, we'd need more manflesh and that leaves Bull and Beardo. I'm OK with that.

I had a thought about the backpack, and I kept meaning to share it, and I keep forgetting.

I suspect that backpack holds all of Solas's worldly possessions.  Well, that and his pouches (which presumably carry his money, if he has any, and herbs, and maybe any little random collectibles he's gathered up--which are probably few and far between since he's apparently a wanderer, or something.

If he's an apostate, and not an ancient elf, he's probably got to stay mobile.  So, he makes what clothing he can, steals or trades for others, and doesn't stay in one place for long enough to accumulate many items of any real value.  He has to be self-sufficient, so herbalism and tanning are likely skills, along with hunting and cooking.  He may know the best herbs to season fresh nug with, without poisoning everyone.  And the herbs and roots and mushrooms that you need to eat along with that nug meat in order to stay healthy.

His prominent jawbones suggest that he doesn't eat overly much, even though his buff thighs suggest he's getting plenty of protein.

Now, he could also fit all of this and still be an ancient elf, but it's not likely.  I never thought it was likely even though I liked the theory (and came up with it, for that matter).  The explanation for all of this from an ancient elf would be that he has been watching from the Fade and he knows that he will be viewed as an apostate.  He must therefore stay mobile to avoid capture/death, but he also doesn't have much in the first place--and he may have his own agenda.

Ancient-Solas is probably more likely to betray us than plain old Apostate-Solas.  But if we befriend him, he will likely not betray us regardless.  Or one should hope not.

It could have meaning and I imagine that he doesn't have too many things to his name! But then again, carrying a backpack around just makes sense. Actually, it makes less sense that our PCs and companions haven't all been doing that all along.

It does make sense, but given Solas's overall woodsy-and-ragged look, except in some outfits, I'd say that he, more than anyone, carries everything he owns in his pack.  Whether he's vanilla apostate or ancient, he isn't going to want to settle in one place for long, due to safety, plotting, or what-have-you.  He looks like someone well used to the great outdoors, someone who's a survivor.  Someone who's done a lot of traveling, and hasn't gotten a lot of rest.  If he's a vanilla apostate, it won't matter if he's not a dreamer because his exhausted look could come from fearing to sleep lest he be captured.  Or even if he does sleep, he may be plagued by nightmares of being captured, tortured, made Tranquil.

Wow, you guys were active! Serves me right for sleeping.

Any of you guys have names lined up?

I have a list of names I like saved for future reference, because it takes me forever to think up names on the fly. As I am not particularly original, most of them are character names for a bunch of other places. For Inquisitors, I currently have: Tyrion, Melian, Asha, Nienna, Arik, Jadzia, and a few others. And I always name my first playthrough when everything is new and fresh Elias. I explained it away from DA:O to DA2 as a family name (Amell) buuuuut now I don't have any convenient excuse.

Side note, DAA & DA2 screwed up my dude name.  I ALWAYS used Anders (that was even my baby boy name of choice, damn you!) but now it just feels used :P  I'd prefer my children don't share names with characters I've had e-sex with >.>

HAHA. I was having this problem, too. I really want to romance Varric, but, like. . . that's what I named my kid. I'm not sure how I feel about romancing a character that now shares the same name as my son.

Also, love your names, especially Lucien.  That's always been one of my favorites.

Seconded. Lucien is a wonderful name.

But but but . . . I love me some mage romances.

The speculation that the thingy around his neck is a deer bone is giving me Falon'Din vibes.  Falon'Din was the elven god who guided the dead to the Beyond (the Fade), and according to the lore he first did so to carry a deer who was too tired to walk.  Solas is supposedly a Fade expert...

That last one is depressing  :( But he DOES look pretty tired in his close-up shot. Makes me wonder whether he really IS a dreamer even when most people have thrown away that theory by now.

My entire point was he doesn't have to be ancient or a dreamer to be tired.

But I do have a suspicion he's connected with Felassan, somehow.  I just can't shake that vibe.

That's a interesting theory. Now I'm kind of wondering about his specialization, will he be a rift mage or a necromancer...Though we still don't know much about these two specializations yet.

I know but it still makes me wonder. It seems like such a purposeful addition to his design that I wonder if it really stems from something as simple as him being the restless wanderer type. Then again, they seem to be paying much more attention to personality when making the character designs this time around, from what we've heard.

Has anyone else read this blog post about Cassandra? It implies that the way Solas looks suggests a lot about him. I am assuming this is what Brass was suggesting, but it at least verifies that he doesn't look the way he looks just because..
