For what it's worth, I think that Solas  has a best chance of any companion to be a LI. Sera's presence in the line-up pretty much assures it in my book, because it is an even set up of male and female elves to romance, just like Merrill and Fenris.

I apologize for dampening the mood. I just really needed to throw that out there. There's just so much everyone on this forum knows about that never really crossed my mind, such as the jaw bone thing, that I thought you all would be able to swat it away and be like 'oh you little nooblet, we discussed this AGES ago'.

On that note I'm still presenting it to another thread, but I am hoping it will give us some positive reinforcement~!

It's depressing to think that Solas won't be an option but that is such a valid theory that I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen it come up before!

That's assuming they care about equality of races per romance option, and assuming Sera's an option.  She might turn out to be underage and Vivienne is an option instead.

Meh.

Let's just get back to talking about Solas.  This is depressing.

Do not apologize. I like your theory.

What if, contrary to my theory that as a Fade expert and apparently an early companion, Solas turns out to be easily skippable and completely irrelevant to the plot as a whole?

Worse, what if...

Brass, getting back to talking about Solas because romance talk is depressing means we should talk about HAPPY Solas things and not depressing ones!  :P

Edit: Went on Solas's tumblr tag to see if I could find cute fanart but instead found something about Nicolas Cage and something about a hair mod for him. NOT HELPING, TUMBLR.

My theory is that Felassan was possessed by a spirit and that spirit is now inhabiting Solas. As a nod to their connection, Solas is visually similar to Felassan minus the tatoos.

I think that is a BIG stretch.

We have no idea what Felassan looked like, however, other than his tattoos, looking tired, and being older than Briala.

I had theorized something similar, but I just can't buy it now.  I think Solas is going to turn out to just be a regular apostate.

I doubt Fel was ever possessed. I think he was merely working for a spiritual entity.

Or alternately, he could be working for an elf in uthenera, which would explain why he's trying to gain access to the eluvians--to free his master.  In which case, Solas might be connected to all of this somehow, but it's likely to be only a minor connection.

@Brass

Nah, he's a 'fade expert.' That combined with the devs saying that all the companions are deeply woven into the plot makes me confident that he will be important.

Huh, I'm not even a Solas fan and I'm more optimistic than you guys ATM.  That LI theory hit you guys that hard?

Why would his master be trapped in uthenera? And we don't even know if the eluvians can open gateways to the Fade.

You are probably right, but the fact that he chatted with Imshael like they were pals made me think there was more to him than met the eye.

I understand how these LI theories can put a drag on your optimism. I feel that way every time someone suggests Dorian wont be an LI for m/m.  :(

I think Solas and Dorian probably will be the companion LIs, though. If someone else takes one of the slots, I'll be surprised.

Can't we just go back to the theory where Solas is a nerd whose best friends are books, so he lives alone in the wilderness. I liked that one.

That's not what he'd need the eluvians for.  If his master is an ancient elf, still sleeping away, he or she may have needed Felassan to get control of the eluvians in order to have Felassan wake him or her.  Possibly other ancient elves as well.  So, basically, knowing that he/she is in a dream but unable to wake up.  And it could have been total deception as well, meaning, Felassan believes his master to be elven but it's actually a demon.

Not sure at all how Solas would tie into that, but it makes a weird amount of sense, at least to me.  If Briala and co were to have run across elves in the eluvian system, it's possible Solas was one of them.  Again it is more likely he's just an apostate, but the violet eyes seem a bit intentional after reading TME.  Like we were meant to be cued in that there's a connection of some kind between Felassan and Solas.  The question is, what is that connection, if it isn't coincidence?

I really like the idea that Solas is something more than just a normal apostate. I like characters that have bombshell lore implications. I'd be way more interested in Solas if it turned out he was an ancient elf.
