I'm confused now. What exactly do we know about this character? I could swear I've read things about his personality and such, but then I'm not entirely sure I haven't mixed him up with a character in TME. I know a lot of things are speculation right now, and we have only a small amount of confirmed details, but might we compile a list of facts and speculation?

 

...and watch us get all this confirmed info sometime in the next few days...

 

Far, far less than the size of this thread would suggest. Officially, we know he's a Fade Expert and we know he's been described as scotch bonnet candies. Allan is the BSNs Mary Poppins. He left us because he knew we would be OK. I'm sure one day we'll see him again.

This exactly.  And also, this thread serves as proof that speculating is fun.  And also that we'd really, really love for Follower Friday to come and Solas be the big reveal.

 

Hmmm.  You know, even if he turns out non-romanceable, I wonder if he'd give a gift to his friend/love interest, if you were nice enough to him.  And if he did, what kind of gift would it be?  Maybe he'd carve or craft something for the Inquisitor, make an amulet or something?  Actually I'd love to see him do this for someone else in the party with whom he gets along well.

Hm.  Now that I look at his war room image, Solas's "fur thing" looks like the lining of a coat he's wearing.  It doesn't fit very well because he's used straps to keep it on his arms.  Or perhaps he made it himself and it isn't tailored all that well.  Kind of strange to have such a lopsided coat, and I don't remember him being left-handed; that bulk would be inconvenient if he's right-handed.

 

Would love to see a screenshot with Solas smiling.  Actually would enjoy seeing any of the companions smiling.  Hope there's a way to make each of them do so...

I remember reading one of the devs somewhere (I don't know where; maybe I dreamed it; don't hold me to this) who said that Solas has a cool and unruffled personality. I'd actually like to combine this (if it's true) with the idea that he's an ancient elf. Maybe the elves didn't feel things like love or anything when they were immortal, but they started to fall for humans, or even care about them, and willingly corrupted themselves to be mortal so that they could live and die with them. That would make for a very angsty romance, as Bioware is fond of. As you fall in love with him on the romance path he becomes more feeling, but also closer to death.

 

Just a theory. I really wish they would give us more to go off of...

I have a weird theory about it.  In this picture of his armor variations, the outfits with the fur show the ends of the coat tied back and it looks like it'd essentially be a warm blanket if untied.  Also, the way the fur is tied around his upper arms looks irritating to put on and remove so I'd guess he's used to sleeping in all of his clothes, which makes me think the fur on one side could serve as a makeshift pillow so he can catch a little sleep now again when it's safe.

Now I'm looking at that fur thing and just shaking my head and laughing because for real Solas, what is the point of that? It won't effectively keep him warm wrapped like that. Maybe he just thinks it looks cool.

I think what we really need, aside from any kind of information on his personality and LI status, is the cosplay guide for Solas so we can figure what the hell is up with the bone charm and his fur wrap thing, not to mention backpack.

They are but he seems to be wearing full boots in his appearances lately, from what we can see of the recently shown screenshots! I'm never going to approve of the barefoot elf thing

Personally I really love his armor choices, I'm hoping we have a fair amount of freedom doing some mix-and-match with the companion gear.  I'm also wondering exactly how much we'll be able to customize the outfit colors...  I remember that was talked about a lot early on, but I'm not sure if it's still a thing.

I also just remembered that the outfit he wears in a lot of the screen-shots is different than the ones shown on the model sheet. (He has that 'frosty vest' as I like to call it it) So hm... much to ponder... such as outfit changes.

We also assume that you'll get better outfits later on in the game, but wasn't it mentioned that armor can wear down and break if you don't take care of it? (As seen in a helmet deterioration picture that was floating around... somewhere... I'll look.)

If he does start out barefoot, I'm going to headcanon that my Inquisitor pressured him to wear boots. Really, they have to be getting all sorts of things stabbed into their feet walking around like that! I don't know how Fenris and Merrill did it in nasty, dirty Kirkwall.

 

Also, Sera appears to always be in full boots too. Maybe they're making shoelessness less common among elves?

I do wonder what the significance of that jaw bone is. It's as if without it he doesn't even care about his own nature, like his mind is scattered. Yet with it he takes care of things.

I really do think that Solas is a dalish elf. He was perhaps captured at a young age and taken to a circle away from his clan. He could have escaped recently because of his shaved head and the whole fade thing. That jawbone could either be a gift that his mother gave him, or it's...dunno, ..but I know it's something important.

I was gonna say that the ragged clothings could be variations of his armor, but the jawbone shot down that theory :0
whyz it missing from the other armors dang it.   Unless we can remove it
