If he's a Fade expert he might be a Rift Mage, poking holes in the fabric of reality for fun and profit.

Dorian or whoever the Magister character is might be a necromancer. Maevrais Tillani talks about how she's heard rumors of a Magister exiled to the Anderfels who's figured a way to restore life to a person by grafting a spirit to their physical body. Sounds necromancer-y to me.

Considering that specs are apparently more "narrative-focused" in Inquisition we might be picking up new tricks from our companions. Rift Mage could be Solas' attempt to have a mage Inquisitor use the green glow as something other than a supernatural garage door opener.

Playing catch-up with the thread since yesterday was one of those "fall into bed at the end of it" days.  I like the prevailing theory about what Solas is, though if he's a LI, this is going to pose some romantic complications. Which...would figure.  Regardless, I know he's probably clothed the way he is because it's simply practical for a guy living in the woods, but after the "what is that furry thing he's wearing" discussion, my alternate theory is that he's not really up on what normal people wear because he's been, erm, elsewhere, and this came to mind:

 

 

Maybe he just thinks everyone walks around wearing a blanket and underwear.  And jewelry made of animal bits.  YOU NEVER KNOW.

Hm indeed, that kind of looks like a shield instead of the furry patch, but when I look at his/her head again it reminds me of Solas again. I think I'm starting to see Solas in everything now, oh dear...

My needs are simple.

Speaking of Meredith, aw man, I'm quite sad for Meredith. She had so much potential and I was happy to see an older woman (one with visible wrinkles! /gasps/) in a position of power that wasn't just political squabbling. But the red lyrium mang... red lyrium.

I agree with you, specifically the bolded part. We know that when you kill a mage in the Fade (as you said) their body becomes tranquil (Feynriel). What we don't really know is what happens to their "soul" (for lack of a better word). But we do know that when you kill a demon in the Fade it becomes a wisp. And (from the codex) "What remains of its mind clings tightly to the one concept that created it—a hatred of all things living."

Since death in the Fade does not seem to equal complete death, I would assume that death in the Fade equals a severe diminishing of power. We don't know how the rite of tranquility is performed, but if it isn't killing a mage in the Fade (and I'm willing to believe that it isn't, because I don't know how Templars could do that), then it must mean that Tranquil mages still have living "souls" trapped in the Fade.

What I'm trying to say is, should someone die in the Fade and somehow reestablish a connection with their body, I don't believe they would be the same person they were, and would possibly be significantly less powerful and have the mentality of a child (their emotions would be gone or very simplistic). Not only that, but this basic essence of a "soul" would have to seek out it's body in order for this to happen (which seems unlikely as it is a very basic form). Essentially the person they were would be gone. I think this is why Felassen's ending sounded so final.

Of course, this would depend on what death in the Fade means to a mage, and I think it must mean something significant otherwise Felassen wouldn't have feared it.

Short version: I think (and hope) Felassen is dead.

You're aware an elf Tranquil named Pharamond reversed his Tranquility in the novel Asunder, right? While he certainly had socialization issues after so many years (mainly, he had trouble controlling his emotions) he hadn't mentally regressed.
I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about here though, so if not, my apologies.

Ha ha ha! I like that others are now trying to inspect who else is in the picture. But I have to agree with the others. It looks like the outline of Cassandra's shield and the figure has her stance.

Yeah, that's another reason I don't think Dorian is the necromancer.  That, and the design of his staves being inclined toward sword-blade in appearance.

Pic above has Solas with a very glowy stave.  Knight enchanter supposedly manifests blades etc.  Could it be that Solas is the knight enchanter?

 

And yet, of everyone, Solas's jawbone necklace is the most evocative of death, which would make me think he's the necromancer.  While Vivienne being a Circle mage is in agreement with the idea that she'd be the knight enchanter, Dorian could have learned it because he doesn't believe in thrt of magic used in Tevinter.  Or, he could still be the necromancer if he had gone to Nevarra at some point.  It's hard to say.

Hey guys I was reading about Summerday because that's apparantly today in the dragon age universe according to twitter, and then I came across this on the wiki, there are 12 months in Thedas, all have a Tevinter and a common Ferelden name. But.. the seventh month is called Solis/Solace. (Solis as the Tevinter name, Solace as the Ferelden one) Just a random coincidence or not?...

I guess since we're going to be in Orlais there will be no shortage of fancy hats to go around. They better let them be available to everyone, because I want my whole crew rolling through the streets of Val Royeaux with fancy hats exclaiming things like "Ooh la la! Mon fantasie chapeau!"* Solas will definitely need something if we're going to be travelling through deserts though.

It's OK. What I meant was that I don't think regular tranquil are made tranquil by being killed in the Fade. So I think that it might have a different outcome if a Fade-death Tranquil was reversed.

I saw that in TWoT the other day, but I couldn't think of how there might be a connection. Maybe there is a deeper meaning there. There's also a city on the border of Nevarra and Tevinter named Solas.

In the morning before my coffee, believe me, it ain't pretty.  My eyes glowing red/obvious demonic possession wouldn't be much of a stretch.

 

Meredith was a looker, I thought.  And she certainly had a strut (I am among those who appreciated the attempt to give women a different walk in DA2, though it was a leeeeeeetle exaggerated while running for my taste...looked painful).  Wish there'd been the space to develop her more as a character, because she was an interesting idea.  But, you know, DA2.  Most everyone was kind of insane.

There was a recent tweet in the twitter thread that said they are revamping Follower Fridays so that we will meet all of the followers before launch. So I am cautiously optimistic that we will have some information about Solas soon. *rubs Solas' head for luck*

I loved Meredith btw.  She had a lot of potential and I would've really liked to see her character explored or developed more.  I could see several characters I've created/played as becoming a Meredith-like "villains" under the right circumstances.

Uhhh.  I never said anything at all about Solas's jawline, or his baldness.  That animal jawbone necklace he's wearing around his neck with most armors, on the other hand... that kind of makes me think he's got some kind of association with death.

Goodness I sure hope so! I've been absent in the thread because I'm trying not to get my hopes up too far until we get more information on Solas ;; crossing my fingers for E3! (Or earlier, I'll take that too)

Yes! I hope so ,even though we get so many ideas from very little it would be great to have some more info to nibble on!

I've looked closely to his head and it looks like it's a blonde color? But his eyebrows look darker if he does have eyebrows that is!
