Can we expect to use his Dreamer powers to manipulate potential foes/allies? That'd be a nice touch.

I'm curious about that as well. Feynriel saved a woman from being assaulted despite being on the other side of the continent. He may end up becoming tremendously powerful.

If Solas is Dalish (given his name) I wonder if he's from the same clan as the Dalish Inquisitor.

The robes are identical. 

 

And I don't see anybody going overboard with speculation - just pointing out that a character in a piece of concept art wearing the same clothing as a companion, who has similar physical features, is more likely to be the same person than a random character we've never heard of. Unless you think there are two significant bald mages wearing the same style of clothing.

 

After all, that art must have been drawn for a reason. There's a woman holding a baby and someone else performing blood magic, and if I had to guess they are a part of whatever storyline is happening here.

The robes are not identical. As I said in my original reply, there's fur padding on the shoulders in the concept art, and in the two or three pieces of concept art/rendering that we've seen that include Solas, he has a large swathe of fur across his chest, covering one shoulder. There are tons of robes like this throughout the series and tons of mages that are bald, as well. In addition, that was concept art. It doesn't necessarily happen. Not everything that is in concept art is in the actual game. Often times it's just used to set the mood and get an idea of where they want to take the game. The same thing was said during an argument over the concept art of a woman holding a dragon with a piece of robe through it's mouth.

Do you know what the most likely reason for that piece of art being drawn is? To demonstrate the desperation of the mages, the fact that they're hiding out in the woods, and the ever-pursuing Templar Order. OR ACTUALLY, as you said, there's a woman holding a baby. My theory is that the baby is actually the Old God baby and the woman is Morrigan, running in terror from a rogue group of templars who are obviously coming after the child. The bald mage is taking the role of a foster father or step father and helping to protect the baby, which obviously means that he has some knowledge of the truth behind the child. He must be from Tevinter then because his robes are similar in design to the Tevinter robes in DA:O, and if he's protecting the baby, then he knows about the dark ritual and it's connection to the Archdemon. That might mean he's a grey warden! OH MY GOSH. CONFIRMED - bald guy from concept art is the tevinter grey warden step father of the old god baby who is being raised in a forest camp of apostates and a surprisingly matronly Morrigan while being pursued by rogue templars. I can come up with theories, too.



In other news, where did that snippet come from that shows his name is Solas? Does anyone have the full translation/article?

Well,he'd better stay out of my inquisitor's dreams...

I doubt that he's dalish though...I don't see a reason why they wouldn't give him valasliin unless his model is not 100% completed or something and they plan to add the minor details later...(After all it's still in pre-alpha I think)

Also Dreamers can permanently kill in the Fade, not just wake up person or make him/her Tranquil (in case of mages). That's a damn godlike power.

Err... I'm going to just suggest that people wait until they either read the article proper, or wait for something in their own language.

I've read Solas means Pride in the elf language.

This guy got some training somewhere ...the only place with Dreamers knowledge is Tevinter.

But Solas has nothing to do with Dorian from the survey , and he's an apostate.

So not sure what to think about it ?

A dreamer in a circle would be ill prepared ,and I guess templars would be after him.

Obviously he's with the Inquisitor , so Solas isn't a total noob...

 

Also wonder about the fade breach and Dreamers ,maybe with the demons being busy trying to cross the border , dreamers are in less danger?

Anyway , this guy can't be too powerful and kill troublemakers during his nap .

His main role might be to guide the Inquisitor through the fade , by giving away lore and being able to let everyone go there.(in theory non mage are not able to walk the fade wide awake.In game , or in books everytime it happens you have a super ubber demon or Marethari preparing some ritual).

So Solas may not be a dreamer afterall.

I'm ok with that...I mean I was wondering how it could work gameplay wise etc...to keep this little guy from being overpowered or the next demon's chew toy.

Well I hope we're going to have a bit more news soon.

 

For now , I will keep on thinking he's Vivienne opposite.An ex circle mage who doesn't want the circles back.

Wonder if those two know each others.
