So, in relation to the food Mary Kirby compared Solas to (Scotch Bonnet candies), can anyone tell me what they are?
Like, I thought Scotch Bonnet was a type of pepper and I've never heard of them being candied. Is there a brand name that shares that title or...?

Hi
Scotch Bonnets are hot peppers (compared to habaneros, though someone on here said they were actually milder) that are candied by cooking them in a sugar solution until most of the water is replaced by sugar. They still look like peppers but taste spicy and sweet
I've read they lose some of the heat but keep the flavor. I think there's also a Canadian candy company of the same name.
Since they still look like peppers and the sweetness only shows up once you bite into them, I think it means Solas will be off-putting until you get close to him ![]()

*snip*
For some reason I have a feeling that due to his fascination with the fade, Solas would perhaps be the only one of our followers, not hostile or suspicious of Cole.

This!
Cole with the hat is adorable. I hope he and Solas are friends. It seems like Solas is the most likely to be interested in Cole due to his background with the fade.
Inquisitor: So what were you doing in the Fade?Ancient Elf, stuck in the fade, because he doesn't want to be dalish.

hoping is not the kind of interest "I'm going to vivisec him so I can learn more about him".... ![]()

Ahh, thank you then. I didn't know they could be candied, awesome thanks!
(I'm trying to see if I can try each dish that companions have been compared to - except wax fruit of course... and Ortolan Bunting *shudders*

Yeah. I could see that happening, too, but I'm hoping they'll be friends. lol

This is absolutely 100% a lie. Sugar does make spice easier to eat, but all of the capsaicin is there in all of its glory. If you can't eat a scotch bonnet pepper, you're not going to be able to handle it candied. Scotch bonnets are roughly equivalent to habaneros on the Scoville Scale. So if he's true to his food he's going to be hard to handle.
Yeah. I could see that happening, too, but I'm hoping they'll be friends. lol
well...they can always became buddies...after the Inquisitor stop Solas from his intent. a little like with Tali and Legion. After Shepard intervention, they became quite friendly. ![]()
I can totally imagine my inquisitor having a little family now, Solas as the husband, Cole as the kid and Varric as the funny uncle. That would be perfect ![]()

The hard to handle love interests and romances are always more fullfilling.. so no objections here!

Maybe a combination of both? Solas starts out asking Cole a lot of questions, from a certain scientific standpoint, but then starts to find himself just generally concerned for Cole's well being. Awwwww... this is a party combo I'll definitely have to bring along at some point.
Yeah... as much as I was like 'yo cool, Solas steady chilling in the fade', a great number of you are correct. According to The World of Thedas: Volume 1, it states "it is nearly impossible for any person to physically set foot there (the Fade)". I'm sure the 'nearly impossible' is referring to our Inquisitor in the third game(???). That and, as dragondreamer stated before, the last time people actually entered the fade was the Tevinter magisters, which caused the blight.
The book later states that "on extremely rare occasions, the Veil may tear. This may be done with powerful magic, or come about after the slaughter of a great many people in a short time". Guess I should have been reading it more carefully due to the FORESHADOWING OF THE THIRD GAME. kjhdkahskdfjhasdfk
Anyway, I'll stop reaffirming what was already stated, but I at least can say it's confirmed in the book.

As for Cole and Solas, one could only hope their interactions go well and not end up in bickering like in most of the parties of DA2.

Thanks for the clarification
I've never tried them before (and might die if I did, big old wuss that I am).
I wouldn't mind trying at least one candied Scotch bonnet...as long as I have a tall glass of iced Sweet tea or ice water lol! XD
Updated the OP (finally) because that OXM article seemed to have a better picture of Solas and what might be a tweaked face (?).
Also I just realised that for two months the first line in the post had the typo "balf elf mage", which is, well... my bad.

Weird. Sugar is supposed to neutralise the heat in chili. I guess scotch bonnets are so spicy that you need a tonne of sugar to make a difference (or they are so hot it's just not noticeable if it does). If anyone else tries these, don't drink water. Milk, vinegar, or a teaspoon of sugar.

This is pretty much my biggest fear when it comes to Cole. I don't want to end up having to mother him, and I will be put off if he treats me like Rhys. I mean I am capable of being compassionate, but he kills people. He needs to grow up.
I think I would probably die if I tried to eat a scotch bonnet candy.... I can't even handle Hot Cheetos. A friend of mine made me eat a little one the other day, and I ended up drinking all of her water.
Inquisitor: I'm sorry, Solas. I can't eat you.
Solas: Oh, um... That's... that's okay. Don't worry about it.
So when I combined this:
If you can't eat a scotch bonnet pepper, you're not going to be able to handle it candied [...] So if he's true to his food he's going to be hard to handle.
and this:

I got this mental image of sassy Solas snapping his fingers at me and saying "You can't handle all this."

I couldn't imagine him doing something like that though lol.
