I got this mental image of sassy Solas snapping his fingers at me and saying "You can't handle all this."

 

Nah, to me he looks like he's stretching his back and about to say something like:

 

Solas> Can't we at least have some tea before we start the meeting?  You woke me up...

it does seem to me to be a tweaked face in the recent new screenshot, you know, compared to the image where his hand clips through the rock. if so, I prefer the tweaked version.

 

I can see Solas taking an interest in and befriending Cole.

 

Do we know how Solas is pronounced? Like Mordin Solus? The word solace? SOL-ass? Sol-ASS? Soul... Saul...

Like here lately I've been playing a little bit of DA2 and my Hawke came upon a chest he opened it and sadly it was torn trousers again...every time it's torn trousers I immediately think "Maybe these are Solas's torn trousers that he outgrowned!"    ....Haha I've been playing to much DA lately. 

 

 

@Brass  He does look like he's stretching a bit...though when I first saw it,it looked like he was puffing his chest out *loooong sniff* You smell that? Male pride!!!! lol

I've been pronouncing it like Mordin's name, but now that I think about it, I have no idea. Hmm...

I don't think he's actually been tweaked, or if he has, not much.  The major difference is in the angle of his head and the lighting.  In the outdoors screenshot, the lighting coming from above is making the dark circles under his eyes look darker.  In the new one, the lighting is probably coming from somewhere on the table, or such.  So, you don't really see the dark circles so much.

 

One thing I don't see in the newer screenshot above is the cleft in his chin, but then half of his chin is covered by his fluffy fur coat/bedroll/whatever that thing is.  And he MAY possibly have a softer line to his cheekbones?

 

But mostly I do believe it's just the lighting.

It's his expression that says "stretching" to me.  I think I get a similar slightly-frowny expression when stretching my back.  Although my expression is probably much more pronounced than his.  He's also kind of got a sleepy squint going on there.  Although, the almost-smirk he's got there might suggest he's just not taking the meeting seriously--at all.

Solas was the one buying all the moth-eaten scarves to make his clothes, I don't think he'd waste a perfectly repurposable pair of trousers.

Hmmmm.  And the question of what the fur thing is, brings up the question:  what kind of animal did that fur come from?

 

You can sew together more than one pelt, so it might not necessarily be a large animal.

 

The fur seems more dense than wolf fur, unless it's a very cold-weather wolf--in which case the pelt would be a lighter color.  It's fluffier than deer fur usually is, but it could be from one of those deer from the screenshot that we didn't get a good look at.  They could have dense pelage.

 

What the fur density reminds me of is a beaver or an otter, but the pattern does suggest it came from a singular animal.  Giant beavers/otters?  Unlikely...  And the color is rabbit-like, but I doubt there are rabbits that large, either.

 

So, maybe it is from a bear?  Or maybe it belongs to whatever creature the jawbone necklace he wears is from?  And if it is not a bear, then perhaps it is indeed from a wolf, or some kind of mountain goat/sheep thing, even if the fur type does not seem to match up.

 

Is the fur thing a wrap, the lining of a coat?  It does kind of look like, from the angle in that new screenshot, it might be folded over and exposing the lining of a coat, but his clothing doesn't seem to add that much bulk to his body.  Also, why would he then tie the lining of the coat around the coat?

 

I have a speculative notion that it might be his bedroll/sleeping fur, except he uses it to wrap around him rather than carry it rolled up.

 

Whatever it is, I still want to pet it and bury my face in it.  Maybe the Inquisitor can go to Solas for a good shoulder-cry and then just linger there on that soft-looking fur... and Solas can then look reaaaaaally awkward about the situation, because that hug went on way too long...

All the torn trousers told me was that Carver should have gotten an apprenticeship as a tailor repairing clothes. There seemed to really be a market for it. Maybe he could have settled down with a nice girl and had a family.

It does look thick like a bear....and if you look closely he's still wearing those tight pants yes!...his shirt looks green not white or grey like it is in the picture with Cassandra maybe it's just the lighting....sorry that totally went somewhere else...it does look either like a bear or wolf he might use it for other reasons other than to wrap it around himself since possibly they will be living or visiting cold areas.

Also, staring at that picture I can't help but imagine Solas judging everything my Inquisitor does on the map and her getting sick of it.

I actually jumped in my chair when I saw that pic lol....hmmm I doubt it but if we could keep one as a pet that would be cool. I like that there's going to be different clothing/armor for our companions. Even though I enjoy playing DA2 I didn't like that their clothing/armor stayed the same during the game.

Yeah, the rank 4 wolf looks a lot like a striped hyena or aardwolf (which is a termite-eating... hyena).  The rank 2 and 3 wolf look like they have scars or something, but I think they are different colored stripes.  Only the rank 1 wolf looks like a normal wolf.  So, it's conceivable the fur may be from a wolf, but again, to me, that fur texture Solas wears doesn't look wolfish.  Wolves also have shaggier fur...
