I thought the majority of them seemed to be in their 30s, the exceptions being Sera and Cole. Cass is somewhere between 34 and 38. And Laidlaw said the Inq will be older than 20 and younger than 40. Source in case you're interested.

I'm glad they're older this time. My guess on Solas' age (if he's not 500+ :P ) would be about 33.

Most of them look like they could be in their 30s (with the exception of Beardy Warden and Cole), which makes sense since they're mainly supposed to be leaders or experts in one way or another, right?  So 30s makes sense.  Young-ish but old enough to be seasoned.  I'm glad they're older this time too!  I still think Solas's looks aren't going to match his age, though.  The ambiguity in physical appearance (neither city elf nor Dalish), his odd eye color, his being the Death card, his connection to the Fade...

And somewhere, a dev cackles because I am probably SO WRONG. :P But I gotta have my theories.

Ah that's great, thanks! :D And yeah indeed, this only applies if it turns out he's not a few centuries old, and frankly I really wouldn't mind that either. As long as he doesn't look like this:

*creepy snip*

Then I'm fine with it!

Also I spent a good ten minutes trying to come up with a decent Necromancer pick-up line, but it's early and Vivienne would be more likely to snark about "la petite mort," being Orlesian and all, so I got nothing.  Except my coffee.  Mmm, coffee.

Reading through the romance thread and laughing at how different everyone pegs Solas's age to be.

I actually think he looks pretty young. Or at least younger than I was expecting before that full-on screenshot, anyways. In his 30s, I would imagine (at least appearance-wise). They seem to have put him between the age he looked in the war room concept art and the age he looked in the concept art with the dwarf Inquisitor.

Maybe the baldness and dark circles under his eyes trip people up.

lol I giggled when someone guessed 40-50+!  I'd hate to hear how old they think I look after a few sleepless nights :P

He looks 28-35, but we all know he's immortal so that doesn't mean much ;)  Anyway, dark circles, baldness and even pale eyes can make a person look a lot older than they really are.

At my age now I actually appreciate all the possible LIs.  At this point I'd be more weirded out by a young LI than an old one, but I do have sympathy for younger gamers since when I was 18 a 30 something year old companion might've been unappealing to me too.

I enjoy older LIs but there's always going to be a mental block for me and part of me wishes there were LIs closer to my age. As it is now, most of the LIs I'm interested in will be around twice my age, if they're all near 40. For me that seems old only because it's a good deal older than I am.

Edit: But if it's Solas, I won't mind at all  ;)

Truth. I look young for my age (thanks for those genes, Mom!), but lack of sleep or excessive stress or the killer combo of the two can put a bunch of years on overnight, prompting some "Oh HELL no!" moments in front of the bathroom mirror.  Followed by hiding in the house eating junk food and mourning the loss of my youth. Good times.  :P

I just said this in the romance thread, but I tend to feel like the companions are ambiguous enough, age-wise, for most of us to feel comfortable.  I'd feel weird about, say, a teenage LI because from where I sit in my mid-30 that would just feel, you know, WRONG, but the ones who could be anywhere from 20s to 40s?  Sure.  I really think they make them kind of ambiguous on purpose.

This set of companions does seem to be a bit older, though, and while I'm excited, I have sympathy for the younger gamers too...right now, I'm not seeing any probable LIs anywhere near 20.  That might have bothered me a bit at 18 (or not...Cullen is pretty classically hot ;) ).

I agree with you, most of the companions are nearly twice my age too and that makes me a bit anxious, not because of the thought "eeeew he's old, I'm not going to romance an old man!" but just because I want to enjoy the romance just as much as I would with a character more like my age, and not be bothered by an age difference. I have no idea if it's actually going to bother me though, since all the love interests were always generally young. I want a situation where I can fall in love with any character, like if the Grey Warden turns out be a LI and amazing (and for some reason better than Solas :P) then I want to romance him and not hold back because the age gap makes me feel uneasy.

I sometimes don't understand how some younger gamers would go "Ew that persons old!" When they will be playing a character that's older than them? Would they want their character to be romancing a minor? No that's just wrong and awkward. O_O

But about Solas's age I think he's in his upper 20's or early 30's...if he is a few centuries old that won't bother me...COME TO ME YOU HANDSOME OLD MAN!!! :P

For years after I first started playing serious games I felt like a lot of the content wasn't intended for me (probably ages 12-17), then after 18 I felt like I related better to games like Final Fantasy, but now that I'm in my mid to late twenties I feel like I'm in this golden age range where there's tons and tons of content aimed right at me (maybe not created with a female in mind, but someone my age).  It's really strange but I am loving it

That said, I'm not so far removed from being in the 18-24 age group that I completely forgot what it feels like.  When I was 18 I went on a few dates with a 29 year old and it was so awkward because there was a HUGE disparity in our life experiences, goals, outlooks, everything.  Also, he looked older than 29 and I looked young so we could have easily passed as a father-daughter duo and we got weird looks at dinner.  For those reasons, I can still sympathize on some level with people who don't feel immediately attracted to older LIs.  I honestly think that once the game is out and our companions start charming our pants off a lot of people will forget the initial disinterest :P

Seriously though, I swear someone at Bioware must've chosen all of the companions from a list titled "Video Game Characters Ispan Would Go Crazy For."  Either that or I have low standards.

Oh yeah, I'm totally on topic btw.  I tried so hard to come up with more Necromancer pick up lines but it always ended with me giggling and trying to use the word "bone" in a sentence.  haha, this comes right after writing paragraphs about how I'm a mature 20-something gamer now.  I SWEAR I AM.

I'm so ready for the day we find our the truth of our theories and either go 'ahhhhh we knew it' or 'how could we be so dumb!?' Though, reading the theories list did make me laugh. Dorian Pavus. I'm pretty sure that one needs a big red X on it. Ah, how time passes.

As for ages, it is something interesting to ponder, indeed. A lot of time has passed since Dragon Age Origins, how old is Morrigan now? Or our former companions? What about the companions for the next game? So on and so forth.

However, on the subject of me as the player vs the characters and their age, I could really care less what age they are. I... I had this really good way of wording this before I logged in and now, suddenly, I can't put it as eloquently. I guess what I'm trying to get at is it seems this is going towards an 'age= maturity / experience / just looking older'. And then I was thinking about how I liked Samara more than Liara and they're both hundreds of years old (which is code for old enough), which goes back into personality vs age. And then how I wanted to take Merrill by the shoulders and shake her violently for being an idiot. (Though she looked really young, I have no idea what age she was supposed to be, but certainly she at least had to be late 20s by the end of the game, right? Maybe not.) Uh... this is still not getting what I wanted to across so I'm going to see if I can gather my thoughts.

Anyway, I think the thing with younger gamers going 'ew that person is old' simply ties into how they look. That they have what is  associated with being old(er), in a very rudimentary kiddish way, such as being bald, or having a beard, or having some visible wrinkles. My sister is quite fond of Zevran even though they have what I can assume is, since I don't know Zevran's age in Origins, a notable age gap. But she doesn't know his age, she just sees how he looks and has listened to a bit of party banter.

I was going somewhere with this other than just butting heads with you all, but I lost my conclusion somewhere in my mind!

When I was that age I was playing Nintendo games not RPG's lol of course times have changed and kids are playing more adult games now....which I sort of don't approve but that's the parents responsibility not mine. I wouldn't even let my 13 yr old nephew play my Borderlands game! :P

Don't get me wrong I get it....I just find it odd kids getting into a game like this at the age of 12...now someone who is in their upper teens I can see them play this game but they should know that they are playing an Adult not some teenager who's hormones are skyrocketing! Lol! :P

EDIT: I'm not trying to say that kids don't have rights to play this type of game that is between them and their parents on letting them play I just guess I'm saying kids don't come on here and call the companions old they are around my age and hurts my feelings!   :P

When I was 12ish the new games I was allowed to try were things like Baldur's Gate, Diablo 2, the Wheel of Time "shooter", and Everquest, in addition to the multitude of Maxis Sim and Nintendo games.  Games are so different now so it's hard to compare the gaming experience of a 12 year old in 1999 to 2014 :(  but I think if 12 year old me played DA:O she wouldn't even know the sexual content existed!  I was in my early 20s when DA:O came out and I thought the LIs seemed ageless rather than young or old so I'm hoping that idea kinda carries over into DA:I.

Edit: I got waaaaaay off topic here, sorry!  I'll go back to obsessing over sexy elves ;)

It seems to fit the description of Adamant Fortress in Asunder, which is located in the Western approach. And in the DA site update about GW and Darkspawn where this concept was shown they posted the screenshot of the WA posted in twitter this week.

I hope Solas is (or can be made) a healer. Is usually the most useful motivation to have a mage in the party (at least in my preferred tactic)

I think that our healer will be Dorian,if he's indeed Dorian, although I'd prefer it If Solas was also able to become a healer...2 healers to choose from are certainly better than one!

Having the chance to have more than one healer to choose would be great. It was quite frustrating having Anders as almost mandatory because there wasn't someone who could be such a good healer.  (if Hawke's sister wasn't there)

I agree,it would make sense if he happened to have advanced knowledge in alchemy/herbalism,his appearance screams that he's someone who lives in the wildreness,so he'd probably benefit a lot from the skills mentioned above, since he'd have to use every possible resource for his survival.

I've been kind of assuming that's what's in his backpack, but...what if he IS a Necromancer? What's he lugging around in there? Also, wondering about it has gotten the Dora the Explorer "Backpack" song stuck in my head on repeat, which is not okay.

This.  I would LOVE to have healer options, because it was the same in Origins.  You want a healer, you bring Wynne.  And I like Wynne well enough, but not enough to want her along all the time.
