Maybe Solas is just shy? He seems more the quiet type, which could explain the Scotch Bonnet Pepper candy. Perfectly unassuming at first...and then you're on fire.

Well... What we can take from this:

 

DHMG they might be holding off on because he seems to be ridiculously popular.

 

Cole they are probably saving until a later date, if they reveal him at all.  Assuming it's Cole, he's a pretty big deal and may be difficult to get etc.  They might want to keep him as secret as they can, despite having him in images.

 

Solas... I wonder if it's a combination of his likelihood of being closely tied to the plot and his, frankly, lesser popularity compared to the other characters.  I know most of us here love him, or want to anyway (I'm concerned about what his personality may be, personally), but there are not nearly as many of us as the DHMG, Blackwall, Cullen, etc. fans.

 

With the lack of reveals for those three, I doubt we will be seeing them at E3 at all.  Maybe not at any later gaming events either.  Guess we should just settle in and wait for October to get here.  It won't be that long, I think.  I hope.

 

On another line of thought, I was considering that Solas might actually seek out the Inquisitor, rather than us having to find him.  He may be an early companion because he hears that the Inquisitor *walked out of the Fade*--and that would obviously be of interest to an expert on the Fade.  We may even meet him as an enemy, whose intent is to kill the Inquisitor because the Inquisitor might know too much.  But... we'll see.  As of now we don't even have a quote for him, or know who his writer is.

 

As much as some people say "oh he's a nerd/likes books," well... actually all we truly know is that he is a Fade expert who is apparently awkward in some way during conversations.  Also, he is a mage.  And bald, possibly because he shaves his head.  And an elf, probably an apostate but possibly Dalish or even ancient.

 

Why, oh why, did they have to re-reveal Vivienne???

As awful as that is, it's a good opportunity to draw an awful picture of ourselves and/or Inquisitors ogling at his back. Kind of like how I've seen someone do that with Varric and his chest-hair.

I would agree with the DHMG thing. He is veeerrrryyy popular, so I think he's being held off for anticipation factor. That's literally my only theory behind the withheld information about him right now. (Okay, and the fact he may be Dorian which would open up a whole new can of worms)

Yeaahhh... I think the thing with Solas is that he really isn't a fan favorite outside this thread because of his appearance. So a lot of DA:I fans can wait on hearing more about him. It's really disheartening, but it is what it is.

Anyway, I wonder if he'll be anything like Mordin. I wasn't on the BSN forums during the Mass Effect 2/ Mass Effect 3 craze, but I would assume Mordin isn't exactly pleasing in the way of aesthetics. Well, lemmie backtrack for a moment, he has a really cool character design, but he isn't exactly a 'hot-dude'. Despite this, I feel a lot of the fan-base likes him because of his storyline and personality. (Tumblr seems to really REALLY like Mordin through their art and fan picture compilations, so that's where I'm getting the 'a lot of people like him' from.) Even if they didn't initially find appeal in how he looked, perhaps they eventually grew to like him as a character. Then again, I'm probably pulling all of this from nowhere, can anyone verify this for me? I tried to take a look through the Mass Effect 2/ 3 forums to see if there were any Mordin discussion threads and about all I pulled up as popular were Ashley/ Liara/ Miranda/ Thane/ Tali/ Garrus threads. I also have no idea if anyone was bashing on him before they really knew about the character or if I'm totally off track and this is a terrible comparison.

After this long winded rambling, I guess what I'm trying to get at is we still have a chance for him being a well liked character through how his personality and storyline. I'm just going to hold on to this little bit of hope for now.

I think at the moment, people who dislike his appearance are terrified that he's going to be a LI. If we had confirmation that he wasn't, there would be much less complaining about him. Besides, I wouldn't even put him close to the level of a Mordin based on appearance. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but Solas isn't even close to hideous no matter how some particularly dramatic people complain. He's just bald.

 

To me, he has the most interesting appearance and the most interesting food comparison and they contrast completely. I like his mystery and I like that he'll probably go so much beyond how he looks. In my opinion, characters with "better" designs like DHMG and Vivienne tell so much with their outwards appearance alone. They seem almost predictable to me, even when we know so little about DHMG. I doubt the popular headcanon about him will be completely wrong. I think that's why I can't get as hyped about them (though don't get me wrong, I'm hyped about everyone!)

 

As for Solas's personality, I get the feeling he'll be liked. Most DA characters are liked in their own ways and very few pull a fully negative opinion. The only one I can think of with a majority negative opinion is Sebastian, and that's mostly because he's so underdeveloped.

*small confession- even though I am interested in all the companions, the three that I really wanted to see/meet are Solas, Dramatic Mage and 'Cole' so I really hope that this isn't the last of the reveals. I suppose a lesson in patience is in order!

 

I think most people will be singing a different tune once the game is released and we actually get to meet and travel with the companions. Right now, the glimpses we have tend to have people jumping to conclusions for the shallowest of reasons. Appearance. 

 

If memory serves, Mordin didn't become really popular until after the game came out and we saw his amazing character. Until then, Tali was the most talked about. 

 

I suppose a little disappointment isn't going to hurt and I doubt it will change who I will likely party up with. For some crazy reason, I have no doubt that Solas is going to be awesome, though I couldn't tell you why. It is just, that I want to meet the companions and get a taste of their personality, so I can then go into media blackout. I really don't want story spoilers other then who the companions are and who is can be romanced. (I am still grumbling over the beginning conference information being spoiled for me because I think that would have been a much more powerful start to the game if I didn't know it was coming. And I wasn't even looking for it)

De-lurks to commiserate.  I was hoping it would be a Solas quote as well.  Have to say he is the most intriguing of the characters so far, even though we know little about him.  And as a Zev fangirl, scotch bonnet candies seem very close to deceptively spicy salsa.  Appearance is fairly far down the list of things I like or dislike about a given companion, although I certainly don't find Solas unattractive.  Here's to hoping he is a romance option.  I suspect my Dalish Inquisitor will find him intriguing at the least. 

 

And, on the subject of confessions.  Kind of hoping the third rogue doesn't turn out to be Cole, would be fun to sit back and watch the flailing on the forums.  Ducks to hide from fan rage.

I just wanted to say that I don't think they are holding out on us, I think they're just not marketing to us. The E3 reveals are bigger than info handed out to the BSN so I guess it makes sense to show a character like Vivi again. With that said, their whole marketing campaign at this point is "Meet the heroes at E3." So I doubt a picture and a quote will be the end of it. Unless they're going to get a bunch of cosplayers to walk around shaking peoples hands. That would be kind of funny actually..

Whelp, today's "reveal" was utterly confusing.

 

I will simply remain grateful for the reveals of Sera, Iron Bull, and Blackwall, as they were all lovely. Really was hoping for Solas or, at least, A NAME FOR POOR, NEGLECTED DHMG, or even a confirmation of Cole/Mr. Shaggy Bangs Dude, but that is not to be.

 

I just... the game's four months away from release still, and I feel like I'm already "over" Vivienne. Everything we've seen about her so far already worried me that I was going to greatly dislike her personality, but the way that things keep coming around to be all about her (admittedly, my perception after today's little thing, considering she had the whole ONE AND ONLY Follower Friday ALL TO HERSELF)... kinda feels like the way marketing did that is a subtle poke at her overall demeanor/manner, but it simply reinforces the feeling I'm getting that my base self and her are gonna get along about as well as a snake and a mongoose.

A former Court Enchanter and an ex-Magister means that most of Trio of Magi have big personalities, maybe Solas is the quieter, more laid back member?

They stated that The FF system wouldn't have allowed them to show all characters, so ti was scrapped for something else. It's likely they'll show all of them.
As for E3, I wouldn't honestly expect them to show Solas in the demo. The characters shown this week can be in the party, with IB/BW taking the warrior spot in different demos/locations. It's better to not expect anything to prevent disappointment.

This is a truism. (About being terrified he's going to be a LI thing) HAH HA haaaaa! He's just bald. Yeah, he's just bald. This thread would probably be getting a whole lot more support if everyone knew he wasn't available. Heck, most of my favorite Bioware characters are those not available to the player. I think it's because they're so set in their ways and don't have to have the flexibility to cater to the different PCs written into them.

Oh mang, that scotch bonnet pepper... I thought we were done with that. But low and behold one interesting experience later, (bless your soul Ericander) we have the terrors of the pepper surfacing again! And to be honest, I think it's how Solas is being treated by non-fans, based on his appearance, that appeals to me the most. I can personally relate to this character in that he won't win the majority of fans through how he looks, but how he acts. Sure, that's probably not what the devs had planned for him. (Solas being so rejected due to being bald and thin and pale and whatever else) But I tend to like characters based on them being 1) Just an overall well written character (Mordin) or 2) how much I can relate to them.

I think opinions will change when the game is released as well. It's like... while I'm disappointed Vivienne was the one to be released today, that's not going to deter me from liking and respecting her character in the long run. (Unless she becomes a crying 'save me' mess of a LI. Then I'll be sorely disappointed.) There will always be a new day and, hopefully, a new companion to be revealed.

Solas still has a chance to warm our hearts... esophagus... intestine... the burn of the pepper.

WELL, I believe I saw a preview of some of the ladies from the Syfy show Heroes of Cosplay cosplaying Sera, fem!Inquisitior (Holly), and Morrigan (Jessica). A new episode is released every Tuesday and I haven't seen them yet. Maybe it'll be this upcoming Tuesday. And maybe... MAYBE they'll be at E3.
