LOL, I usually try not to have too many preconceived notions about the companions.  I admit that my first impression of Vivienne is of someone my planned canon character will not like.  I certainly have other characters planned that would find her (or as much as we know about her now) very appealing.  I try to have PC's that are very different in their attitudes and goals depending on the backstory I have come up for them.

LOL, Dragon.  My impression is that most of my PC's will not like Vivienne either.  Not that she might not be useful - dragons like bright, fancy things, don't they?

 

I am trying so very hard to keep an open mind. I really am. It may even just be personal for me because some of the quotes and personality they've revealed of her so far seem to peg her as very fashion-oriented (perhaps even a bit snobby, which is part of being Orlesian and playing The Game, I guess, but that's also part of what makes me really dislike Orlais and its nobles as a whole) and very self-centered... in a "what is in it for me, it's all about me" cut-throat Slytherin sort of way... which reminds me of a female coworker whose existence I had to suffer for a year and was the only human being whom I've ever honestly wanted to claw the eyes out. So, some of this bile I'm feeling towards her is probably colored by me, so far, seeing what's revealed and making me remember that horrible, horrible woman I cat-fought with so, so much.

 

But I'm *trying* to spit that out and go in neutral because maybe I'll be surprised. Maybe. I mean, Mary Kirby is writing her and I've adored all of Mary's characters so far. And if I do end up despising Vivienne to the very depths of my soul, then that will also just be a positive to Mary writing a *good* character who gets *reactions*. After all, the worst thing you can feel towards a character is apathy.

 

Meanwhile, back to Solas... want more input, please.

Solas, indeed.

 

Based simply on physical appearance, scotch bonnet candies and his designation as fade expert here is my best wild guess at what I hope he will be.

 

I hope (and I am probably completely wrong) that he will have dry, acerbic wit that leaves people wondering what he truly thinks coupled with an astute talent for quiet observation that leads him to interject pertinent observations at opportune moments.  Fantasy geekmance with sarcasm.

This is a truism. (About being terrified he's going to be a LI thing) HAH HA haaaaa! He's just bald. Yeah, he's just bald. This thread would probably be getting a whole lot more support if everyone knew he wasn't available. Heck, most of my favorite Bioware characters are those not available to the player. I think it's because they're so set in their ways and don't have to have the flexibility to cater to the different PCs written into them.

 

He might get more support if people thought he wouldn't be a romance option, but  I at least would be sorely disappointed if that were the case.  For starters, it would mean there is no male elf romance.  If Sera is an option, and she probably will be if I had to guess, then there'd be no balance there.  Of course the alternative is that neither elf is available for romance this time around, but that seems unlikely as the only other nonhumans are Varric and Iron Bull.  While both have their followings, the safer option would be the elves.

 

There was actually someone in the Twitter thread who was name-calling people who actually *gasp* wanted Solas to be revealed, because s/he thought that Solas was ugly because how dare he be bald?

 

You know, the men of BSN should be seriously offended at all the bald-hatred; a good number of men are bald and plenty of bald men are decent guys, even great guys.  And, to me, it seems more likely that Solas shaves his head than that he is naturally bald.  Possibly my opinion is due to his concept art where he had a topnotch of hair--men normally either bald from a receding hairline or from the top center of their heads.  So a man with hair on the top of his head probably isn't really bald, but shaves all but that bit away.  It could mean that there's some ritual involved.

 

And I still like my idea that Solas seeks out the Inquisitor because the Inquisitor walked out of the Fade.  In that case it wouldn't matter if he's ancient, or a normal elf, or what.  But he might feel threatened by the Inquisitor, and attempt a murder.  We don't know.  Perhaps that hot-pepper personality speaks of an impulsive nature?

Guys, guys. Don't you see? Obviously the reason we didn't get DHMG or Solas today is that we'll see so much of them this week that they figured they'd show us Vivienne one last time, lest we forget her!

Yeah, I get the feeling Mr. Hot Peppers is not going to be anything like boring.  He might, in fact, be one of the most interesting people in the game.  Or at least, one of the most entertaining.  He might look rustic, but that one outfit with the fur mantle looks kind of rustic-regal.  Like forest nobility or something, though clearly he made it himself.  Which, if he turns out to be an ancient elf, maybe he was nobility once?

 

Regardless who/what he is otherwise, the hot pepper aspect tells me that he cannot be boring.  Fiery-hot peppers are a lot of things, but you wouldn't call them boring if you bit into one.

I think I'm going to attempt to candy Scotch Bonnet Peppers. Maybe if I remove the seeds and cut them up into little rings it will help.

 

Right now the plan is to make a syrup with:

 

- 2 cups white granulated sugar

- 1/2 cup water

- 2/3 cup distilled vinegar

 

Bringing those ingredients to a boil in a sauce pan, then adding the pepper rings should coat them in the syrup. Once the syrup pepper mix comes to a boil again they should be pasteurized and safe to jar. Then the pepper rings get scooped into a clean 12 ounce jar (a pasta sauce or mason jar will work) after that, pour the remaining syrup over the peppers and tightly seal the jar. Place the jar in your fridge and let it sit for a couple days.

 

Over time the acids in the vinegar will attack the peppers allowing the water inside to be replaced with the sugar in the syrup. The longer you let the peppers sit the sweeter they will become, so if you don't like overly spicy things you could let them sit for about a week. The boiling process in the pan killed off any bacteria in the mixture, and as long as the jar was clean and tightly sealed the contents should stay fresh for a good while.

Just to put this warning out here: Don't hold your breath to see a lot of Solas at e3 unless we get an image of him. Likely the images are letting us know which characters to expect at e3. We might have to wait a bit of time for some more Solas info.

Also, i like the idea of him having a bit of impulsivity. Also a thought after poor Ericander's experiment that it could mean he's a beast on the battlefield

All I'm holding my breath about with Solas is that he'll show up in Dragon Age Inquisition and we'll go on awesome adventures. As for him being shown, I was thinking about that... Maybe we have to wait until PAX Prime or something. I was plotting to go to PAX Prime, but I didn't act fast enough. : |

Well, today's the day!  At least we'll have some new material to pore over, though after yesterday, I kind of lost hope that we'll be seeing much of our favorite bald elf.  I'm glad I spent the day shopping, because it mitigated my frustration with the reveal. I was just kind of like:

 

The people in the dressing rooms around me probably thought my muttered curses were about the clothes I was trying on.  It's not that I don't find her interesting, but we already know more about Vivienne than any of the other new followers!  The ones I'm most interested in are DHMG and Solas, so...yeah.

 

Somebody said it before, but BioWare really is a harsh mistress.  Super psyched for the demo, though.

 

Also, @CARPOOL, your art totally made my morning!
