So without further ado, I'd like to not have most of my morning posts be about which bits go with what bits and, instead, mull over this:
tumblr_n719q894Wp1s7vvavo1_500.png

Why are all the male elves we've seen so far, in Dragon Age Inquisiton, bald? Male elves that come to mind are Solas and the dead elf we found in the field in Sera's introduction.

Hahaha, I love his "stay tuned" response.  Sounds ominous.  Did the Fade Rift release a sudden bout of alopecia?

I didn't notice that Solas was taller than Cassandra.  Hm.  Not sure if I like them tweaking the heights of elves; I dug Fenris being the same height as my Hawke.

EDIT - Ooooh yea, I remember Patrick Weekes commenting on writing a gay character.  The plot thickens!

Now I can just see Iron Bull attempting to give the Inquisition the "throw test".

Solas: Do I get a helmet?

Iron Bull: I don't see why not.

Solas: Sounds good to me. I've always wanted to fly.

Now that I think about it, I wonder why he wouldn't toss Solas. Maybe our scary!Solas theory is correct and he IS really scared of him. Or maybe we haven't met Solas yet in this play-through.

And YASSS yassssssss tossing Solas.

FFFFFFFF ALOPECIA! HAAAAAAAAA...
Maybe all the male elves are in some sort of secret 'lets shave our head' pact. Iunno, secret network where they all have to look the same to fool someone... ... ... hmmmmmmmm... ... ...  HMMMMMMM....

And he's a teeny weenie bit taller, but still taller.

Do you know where you saw that? Because, tbh, I feel like I got that information from a friend of a friend sort of telephone deal.

It was some tweets Patrick Weekes made.

Initially, they were vague, weird tweets about finding out whether or not a character of his had no pants. Which, naturally, set off a LOT of curiosity. He later explained (all Tweets, mind you, not dev posts here) that in writing terms, having or not having pants meant whether a character seemed right or off when you are writing something outside of your comfort zone. He identified as being a straight dude, so he was passing his writing on to coworkers to check for pants. Which leads me to believe the character in question was either gay or bisexual.

Alright, gang. I've been away for a bit and I'm too lazy to read through all of these wonderful pages spawned in my absence.

Would someone kindly give me a recap of what new information we have learned, or point in the direction of a summary? :~D

The short version? NUTHIN'  :crying:

Just the usual speculating going on, but no info on Solas at all yet.

Okay, gang, I dug through WAY too much of Patrick Weekes's past Twitter posts and found the pertinent info y'all were looking for. Also, twitter is horrific to try and copy-paste from, OHMYGOD I don't know how the Twitter thread guys do it.  <_<

Running something that is fairly significantly outside my comfort zone past a couple of subject-matter experts. Will see if no pants.

(March 12)

Helpful feedback from subject-matter experts, and now my outside-comfort-zone file is off to editing, to become VO by our awesome actors.

Re: "no pants" yesterday: "no pants" is writer slang for when a straight white guy writes someone not straight/white/guy and screws up.

(March 12)

So smart writers writing something they aren't run stuff past people who are, so those people can point out where writer HAS NO PANTS.

(March 12)

I would rather hear "Dude, you stepped on a very common land-mine people step on when writing this stuff," from 2 friends than 2000 players.

(March 12)

(Also, said smart writers listen, avoid getting defensive, and then fix stuff. Might not come out perfect, but better than No Pants.) :)

Hello everyone! I've been a daily follower of this thread since the pictures of our lovely bald elf mage was released in that German magazine some time ago.   However, I decided to join the de-lurkers for once to show some love to Solas.

Vivienne's character profile has recently been updated. To quote one of the Q/A:

''[DA]: Does her personality conflict with her fellow companions, or does she fit right in with the Inquisition?

[MK]: She takes great pride in her work, and her interactions with a certain unnamed Inquisition mage can be a little… explosive. In a good way. Mostly.''

Now, this could either mean that there will be some interesting...interactions with either Solas or Dorian. Who do you guys think is the more plausible mage?

The "explosive...in a good way. Mostly." has my interest piqued.  If this were in the summary of a novel or movie I would immediately think "They fight like cats & dogs before ripping each others clothes off".  I don't really see Vivienne participating in magical experiment shenanigans outside of what a proper Circle mage does, and that's the only other explosive thing I can think of besides sexy-times...

Welcome! Awesome to have more people here every day! And wow I'm going to be totally biased and say that's Solas based on him being scotch bonnet candy, because that's the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the word explosive.  :D

I can easily see Solas not liking Vivienne, and not just because of their clashing fashion sense.

I'm just picturing Dorian and Solas as having a Tony Stark/Bruce Banner-esque bromance over magical theory.

Then again I would like more magic lore.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you for finding that! I still am not sure what it means, or who he could be writing, but it's pretty much down to two.

Well hello there!
And I do wonder about that. (Probably Solas because of what Divine Justinia said about their clashing fashion sense, ha ha ha!) Or it could possibly be Morrigan that it is talking about. I wouldn't discount the famed witch of the wilds just yet.

I'm taking this to mean that he probably wrote Scribe Woman (I refuse to call a grown woman "girl").  She is not white and not male, and there's been speculation she may be bisexual.

HOWEVER, I also have a theory that she might not be a romance at all, and instead we have Cassandra, Sera, and Vivienne for those into ladies.  But from that exact quote it's seriously making me think he wrote Scribe Girl...

Not sure how I feel about that since I was somewhat hoping that Solas was tied into the Felassan storyline somehow, and if he's written by Weekes that confirms it.  On the other hand if Weekes wrote Solas, he might be gay instead of bi and then he'd be unavailable to most of my Inquisitors.

That's been my guess as well, though it's (like everything) pure speculation on my part.  It's difficult to write the opposite gender as yourself believably, and given that BioWare prides itself on sensitivity and inclusivity--not to mention the fact that Patrick just seems like a pretty cool, self-aware human being--I'm sure he'd be concerned with hitting the right notes. Layer in the "non-white" and "possibly bisexual" pieces of Scribbles, and it makes sense he'd be worried about No Pants if writing her!  We'll see, but my first thought was that he was writing a woman.

I can easily see Solas not liking Vivienne, and not just because of their clashing fashion sense.

I think Vivienne is going to be a really polarizing character in general.

This exactly, even though romances are optional it adds a lot of replayability to a game for me. I don't think I'd play the game three more times just to see how the DA universe will react to my inquisitors race (this goes a lot further now in DA:I ofcourse with certain missions being more difficult when you're qunari or an elf but still). And just because I'm a romantic at heart I always try to romance someone every time I play the game so romance is a lot more important for me than it might be for other people :P

Me too! The romances are why I can play the DA games so many times. Part of the way I define my characters is through their relationships...and the variations on how we can do that are just endlessly entertaining to me. Plus, yeah, I'm a complete romantic. It's not a Happily Ever After unless there's someone to ride off into the sunset with.

I guess it could be Scribegirl if she were a bi-sexual love interest. (Though that's a lot of ambiguity and dancing around the issue in the tweets, I couldn't help but interpret those as writing a purely homosexual character.) But with Sera being confirmed as a same-sex love interest for females, we at least know Scribegirl isn't the female love interest exclusive.

Oh, if there's anyone I fear won't be a romance-able character, it would be Vivenne. She's an ambitious character playing a very dangerous political game and proving herself to be more than a mere 'court jester' of a mage. If she is wise, which I hope she is, she would know that an attachment out of passion towards any individual in particular would make her vulnerable. Though... joining with the Inquisitor as more than an ally would prove to be a smart move for her, considering the Inquisitor probably becomes one of the most powerful individuals in the land. /rambles on about Vivienne

I would hope all the ladies are romance-able, aside from Leliana and Morrigan because I thought it was clearly stated you can't romance them in this game. Typically, there are more ladies to romance than males in Bioware games. Buuuuttttt, with the addition of Sebastian in DA2, I guess there are more options for the ladies to romance than males. I would be very surprised if there were only 2 females available for male PCs to romance, but more than 2 males available for female PCs to romance. (Though I would very much welcome the surprise)

Anyway, I suppose I should stop running around these facts. It's not exactly becoming clearer who is writing who the more I speculate.

When I first read that I thought he was talking about Celene or Briala, but I am kind of obsessed with Celene and Bria so that's probably why. :P

There was a lot of thread to catch up with, and I'm all out of likes. First, welcome new former-lurkers! Secondly, I was really surprised to see that race gating is a thing. I don't think it will be Bull or Sera, Bull because he's apparently a manwhore and Sera because of the "her culture is neither elven or human" line. But I agree things are looking up for Varric. I would love to say it wont be an issue for Solas, but we know nothing about him. Still.  :(

OH my gosh I'm so confused cause it could be them. Ahhhhhh... ... ... ...

And even with all this we still don't know anything about Solas!

YOU ACTUALLY WENT THERE AND CALLED IB A MANWHORE.
