Derp I misunderstood the ""writing someone not straight/white/guy"

So it's not Solas he's writing nor Dorian.....

I still wonder if Mark Meer is the one that could be voicing Solas....it might not be him but having Solas with commander shepards voice wouldn't be to bad!

OH my gosh I'm so confused cause it could be them. Ahhhhhh... ... ... ...

And even with all this we still don't know anything about Solas!
(except that he has a good look at the map in the 'everyone gather around the table' room)

OH MY GLOB!!!
YOU ACTUALLY WENT THERE AND CALLED IB A MANWHORE.
/laughs all the way out the thread/

Someone had to say it. :P I guess I might get into trouble for it? I don't know. I didn't intend it as a negative.

As far as the Celene/Bria thing. I noticed now that there is an emphasis on "white" which might rule out Celene, but Bria was said to be dark skinned. So who knows.

I think the analogies to real world racism with Thedosian elves are clear enough that for these purposes they'd kind of as not "white" no matter what their actual skin colour would be.

Now I'm confused due to the 'white' part.

So much confusion.
Could be Scribbles???
Ya'll used confuse ray on me and it's effective!

And Solas with Mark Meer's voice would be strraaannnggeeee.
Mostly because I imagine the Mass Effect poop.
"We'll bang, ok?"
Especially if his voice went from savior of the universe to bald elf mage. But it wouldn't be Shepard's voice right?

But it wouldn't be Shepard's voice right?

His voice has a good range. He voiced Jethann and the Black Emporium owner (can't remember the name) in DA 2, and sounded nothing like Male Shepard.

Everyone is taking the straight/white/guy thing as meaning he wrote something that's the opposite of ALL of those.

Am... I the only one who took it as him just describing the straight/white/guy stereotype *in general* and that it could mean he had to write someone who was not straight OR someone who was not white OR someone who was not a guy (rather than someone who was all three of those not-things)?

That's how I took it. At least, to me it read like it definitely meant he had to write someone who was not into the lady bits for the scene he was writing, since I imagine when he says he wrote something waaaaaaaaaaay out of his comfort zone, that's my assumption.

Example: I am a straight/white/female. I also write. If I had to pick ONE of those three things to write that would put me waaaaaaaaaaaay out of my comfort zone, it would be writing someone who is not straight. That would, to me, have far more No Pants potential than me trying to write someone not white or trying to write a guy.

Yeah, I'll admit, I am taking this a bit too seriously, and literally. Well, maybe we'll learn something soon, yes?
Hopefully.

That's how I took it at first, but after reading the thread I could see how it could be the other way, but it could mean Celene as she is in the game. I also doubt Patrick is writing Solas.

When I first read that I thought he was talking about Celene or Briala, but I am kind of obsessed with Celene and Bria so that's probably why. :P

There was a lot of thread to catch up with, and I'm all out of likes. First, welcome new former-lurkers! Secondly, I was really surprised to see that race gating is a thing. I don't think it will be Bull or Sera, Bull because he's apparently a manwhore and Sera because of the "her culture is neither elven or human" line. But I agree things are looking up for Varric. I would love to say it wont be an issue for Solas, but we know nothing about him. Still.  :(

I'm going to spend the rest of the night with Rob Schneider running around in my head holding forth on the subject of manwhorin'. Deuce Bigalow was a pretty crap movie, but damn if that bit of it didn't stick with me. "Man-whorin' is tough work!"  *sigh* Sometimes I wonder what else I might have done with all the brain cells currently allotted to useless pop culture trivia if I'd been born with more of an attention span.

Also I just fell into some kind of internet hole and wound up looking at Littlefinger gifs for like ten minutes (I don't even know), and now I think Aiden Gillen should voice Solas. I know, I know, there's no Irish analogue in Thedas BUT STILL!  I love his normal voice. Not his Littlefinger "I'm Batman" voice. Um...I've had kind of a lot of coffee this evening.

And Nefla I love your new avatar!

I took the slashes to mean or. I think it's just as likely that the character is a gay male or straight woman as anything else. (Just goin' off readin the tweet.)

It is a sexy voice! Kind of goes with the rest of him. Even though I usually feel like I need to go sit in the Corner of Shame after admiring him in all his creep-sexy glory on the show. Every time, it's like, "He's kind of hot. But he's Littlefinger. Littlefinger has serious issues. But Aiden Gillen isn't really Littlefinger, so I'm not a terrible person. But right now he's Littlefinger, and I'm still kind of ogling him. He's not supposed to be hot. Why is he hot right now? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? I AM FULL OF WRONGNESS!" And then I spend the rest of the evening wallowing in ice cream and remorse.

Yes. You are wrong. Littlefinger is terrible. :P Just kidding. Not about the Littlefinger being terrible part though, he really is gross. I do like his voice though.

But since you brought up VAs, I was watching Warlock the other day for the millionth time, and I thought someone like Richard E. Grant might be a good fit. Not with his Redferne voice (character in Warlock), that would be a bit too much. But his speaking voice is very low key and intelligent sounding.

Ohhhh! I hope so! I was very sad when Fenris and Merrill didn't get along. But if Sera and Solas do get along... it might not be until the second play-through that one or the other is swapped out. I just can't wait for members to have REALLY CUTE banter.
Kind of like Iron Bull and Sera and their little bout of banter.
Or even Zevran and Wynne. (Oh that magical bosom!)

YES! He has a lovely speaking voice, very smooth and cultured. Aiden does too, just with that lilting Irish acccent (really, though, the Batman thing he's developed on GoT makes me twitchy...it's SO distracting). I like both...it's the sort of voice I imagine for Solas, soft but compelling. Now watch, I'll be so wrong and he'll speak in semi-intelligible screeches and grunts instead.

Zevran and anyone, really.  :) He was one of my favorite discoveries in Origins. I never brought him along much at first (seriously, why give us a rogue who comes with NO lockpicking ability?!), but once I gave him a chance, I found him hilarious. And his romance was surprisingly sweet...I never expected him to be so devoted. Anyway, banter, yes, I'd love if Solas had someone to play off of him that way!

I leave for a day to deal with the last of my final exams and I come back to find that all the lurkers have broken out of their cages. *le sigh*

Kidding, I'm kidding. This is beautiful. And it was already beautiful. The beauty has been intensified.

The power of bald compels us.

Same - and it's like knowing I'm out of my comfort zone just pushes me even further away from it. XD "Oh, hey, turns out this one guy is gay, so - OH WAIT OH MY GOD HOW DO I WRITE THIS WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE A HORRIBLE PERSON."

I would love it ^_^

I can just see them having a type of relationship that Morrigan and Alistair had, but with Sera picking on him and being cutesy and him being the one with the witty rebuttals.

Jeffery Combs, he's played quite a few characters on Star Trek but his best-known voice acting credit is The Question on Justice League Unlimited.
