If the Sera thread is anything to go by, it's going to go from being fun to read to rather unpleasant.

Yeah, I bet our pleasant little world will be invaded by haters :(

: <

Noooooooo... nooooooo... I don't want our pleasant little world to be invaded by haters...
I just need to start drawing and holding off posting it until something bad crashed down in here. Kinda like LNA and judgmental stripper Solas, awwwyeeaaahhhh! B >

Personally, I haven't gone and looked there recently, so I don't know how bad it could possibly be (and frankly, I may never understand such hatred for someone who we know next to nothing about and is being judged purely aesthetically - which is actually pretty sad). However, when the day comes that Solas gets his own shiny spot in the site, complete with a new screenshot *hopes* and a nifty interview talking a bit about him, I'm sure we'll have plenty of celebrating and theorizing/discussing to do.

And should these haters feel the need to come here merely to troll, well:

Mh4DRG8.gif

But of course, keep in mind that there will surely be people who may have their opinion changed on him, or they may come here to find a reason to like him/see him as an interesting character. So, we just continue our little party here, and welcome anyone with open arms otherwise (as we have done so far)

This is my stance.

We keep being who we are: a fun, light-hearted group of goofballs.

If Nicholas Cage stuff starts up, roll with it. Hell, I think the actor's cute and I'm the damn one who accidentally started that whole fiasco anyway, so I've no problem meeting it head-on. I still don't consider it an insult, honestly, just something funny at the start that then blew up into odd meme territory.

For anyone who comes in aggressive or upset over him potentially being a love interest or upset about his baldness or whatever other sulky reason people can find to get their panties all in a wad - my advice is to ignore them. Do not lower yourself to their level by honestly arguing with them. Either make a funny joke at their expense and move on... or either ignore them outright and/or report them and let the Mod Squad do its job. The last thing we should do is stoop to any potential troll's level and get genuinely upset/argumentative (and, as a result, risk an entire thread closure, which I am sure would bring them nothing but joy and schadenfreude).

We are all here for each other. Gather strength and resolve from that, and endure.

I'm sorry if this has been brought up, but the new companion trailer with the female inquisitor voice over has sera knelling down next to an unconscious bald elf Mage who looks very clearly like Solas. Plus she's surrounded by walking skelotons. If that's Solas, maybe he's in the fade, or a necromancer.

Nothing to be sorry about...and actually we haven't mentioned about that part of the trailer....you are talking about this elf?

Spoiler

I don't think that is Solas...it really doesn't look like him other than they are both bald...yeah!  :D

It has not been brought up. Thank you for doing so!

As for that character being Solas, I do not actually believe it is Solas. Yes, the bald elf on the ground resembles him (I even had to check if his cheekbone game is strong) but I do not think it is actually Solas. My reasons being his outfit, which seems more rogue-ish, especially with the knife on his belt. And the color red which may tie him to Red Jenny (the organization Sera is affiliated with). That would also explain why she seems remorseful when examining his body.

And there was a tweet someone posted inquiring why all the male elves we've seen, thus far, are bald. The answer was that we need to stay tuned. Sooooo... I think it is actually a different elf in Sera's character trailer.

Since he is wearing rogue clothes (I think) that could be true....

Haha! Oh that was a good one!

Now I am thinking of a cutscene where IB actually throws another companion between a gaped bridge or something.... :P

maybe they will have something like that in the game....

Sorry....just read Roxy's post. I adored Rik. My husband and I used to watch The Young Ones, back in the 80's, when we first started dating. And yes, we both adored Drop Dead Fred. So sorry to read this, but thank you for posting Roxy.

Rest well, and may Echo be singing you to sleep. :(

Plot twist: the reason all the male elves seen so far are bald is because they're meant to have their own special hairstyles and they haven't been added yet.

Solas with a sick mohawk semi-confirmed.

That stay tuned worried me. Is Solas suffering from a magical elf disease that makes all the men loose their hair? Are we going to have to go searching for a cure? And most importantly, can my male elf catch it?

So Solas is an elven word for pride. Solas the character is an expert on the Fade. The Baroness from Awakening showed us that human mages can become pride demons (so did Dawn of the Seeker, but I'm unclear on the canonicity of that film).

Anyone else wondering if Solas is a demon/abomination?

We've thought about that before on here. Personally I think it would be overkill, considering I'm really certain that our blonde shaggy rogue is Cole. I think our demon/spirit quota for the team is filled!

YASSSS YEAAASSSSSS. They all get the coolest hairstyles. (Including the hairstyle Solas first had)

Actually, hmmmm... there are elven uprisings in Orlais, right? That was established at the end of The Masked Empire, right? (I haven't read it, perhaps I should get on that) Maybe it's the product of the uprising. Like... I don't know... maybe a process of internment is happening to the Elves in Orlais during Inquisition. Depending on their treatment and the conditions in such internment camp, they could be having their heads shaved and... I don't know what else could be happening. Anyway, we're focusing on the question of why male elves are bald. You just don't create a bald character without having a good reason behind it because bald characters in the media usually have different tropes attached to them. Ex. Bald= Bad / Bald = Sick (cancer patient) / Bald = religious (monk)... so on and so forth. If this SUDDEN idea of maybe the elves are being rounded up and thrown into an internment camp is correct, that would explain why all the males are getting their heads shaved. Heck, maybe even the females are too. Maybe that's why we can't have an Inquisitor of the city elf origin!

I guess that doesn't explain why Sera has hair, but maybe she's lucky or skilled enough not to get captured. Or she's out and about enough as a Friends of Red Jenny member not to be wrangled up yet. Maybe she's protected due to her affiliations. (edit: Also, the cutting of hair can be the symbolism of a dramatic break from the past. At least in Japanese culture/media it usually is. Maybe Sera's 'bad haircut decision' is a bold statement towards something she's not happy with. Possibly the state of Orlais and the city elves? Or, maybe, the elves in Orlais are trying to make themselves look less pleasing since I recall elves are preferred as servants due to their beauty. The removal of hair might make them seem 'ugly'. Could be a big old middle finger to the nobility.) As for Solas, maybe he shaved his head to recognize the mistreatment of the elves in Orlais. Or, maybe, he's doing so so he blends in with the elves in Orlais. OOOORRRR, maybe he escaped from a camp. Iunno, I could be totally wrong. Just something to mull over. Makes me also wonder why Vivienne lacks hair too...

That was not written as eloquently as I hoped it would be, but it gets my idea across.

The possibility of it being a disease also concerns me. Tying into what I stated above, the elves could be given something that is making them sick. We did have that mission in Dragon Age 2 with the poison in darktown or something-something, why wouldn't something similar happen in Inquisition? (Other then I'm not sure how dark this game plans on getting.)

My statement was mostly in jest but now I'm starting to think we might have a serious case of chemical warfare on our hands. I initially thought that Sera was the one really involved in the whole elven rights plot, but perhaps Solas is as well.  Maybe Solas gets caught up in it and we rescue him from it. Maybe he shaved his head as a symbol of his solidarity with his elven brethren. It'd certainly be an interesting storyline, though perhaps one that hits a little too close to home in this day and age, given Syria and all that drama.

On a more casual note what does everyone think of "Rowan" as a possible Varric nickname for Solas? It came to me when I was thinking up nicknames on the Varric thread. Varric's named at least one elf after plants before, and just like Daisy makes you think of Merril's sweet though naive personality, Rowan makes you think of magic and sorcery, very fitting for a character apparently tied very closely to the Fade.

I think the best thing we can do when the haters jump in here and try to ruin everything is just ignore them like you guys already said, giving them the attention they want will make it worse anyway. Or we could just shut them up with (I think it was Carpool's?) talk ****, get hit gif :D I'm really not too bothered by the Nicholas Cage thing that was funny like a month ago or even longer, it's just that people aren't creative enough to come up with something new. If you're going to insult/tease Solas, then make it something good and witty jeez... :P

If you remember though, Zathrian was bald as well and that was way before current events.   However, we do know he had suffered a great loss in his life.   So may be elves shave their heads as a sign of mourning or something and since Zathrian had never forgotten or forgiven the death of his children, he kept his shaved head thereafter. Didn't that elf who was hunting down ex-werewolves in DA2 have a shaved head or at least partially shaved?   She also was intent on revenging her mother's killers and so perhaps the shaved head was to remind her of the one she had lost.

If that were the case, Solas bald head might be a sign that he had suffered great loss.   I've never been sure whether he is meant to be simply an apostate elf or a Dalish apostate elf (all Dalish mages being effectively apostates).   If he is Dalish then may be his clan were slaughtered and he was the only survivor, so his bald head is to remind him of those he has lost.   Alternatively, a reminder of a lost love.

You know I'd actually quite like the bald head to have a significance to his culture rather than just a fashion statement or something forced on him by humans.

I think that would be interesting too,  I don't mind if there's not a reason though.

If there was a reason like you suggest, maybe when he falls for the inquisitor, he'll grow some hair again, like when Fenris wears hawkes scarf?

(late as always) I don't think this thred will end up prey of trolls like the Sera's one. Some will came, but there would be less "motivation" fot the hate.

Even when Solas will be eventually revealed as LI or not LI ( :() and his sexual orientation, even if he'll end up being only straight ( :() or only gay ( :crying:) or restricted by race ( :() I doubt there will be such a backslash like with Sera.

by the way, the "mourning shave of hair" is something I never thinked of. I really like the theory.

Hi everyone!  Just wanted to jump in and let you all know that I, also, am excited to learn more about Solas!

I mean, seriously, what's with all the hate?  We know almost nothing about him except how he looks, and while not conventionally attractive I find him really striking.  And he's an apostate so we already know there's a story there.  did he escape the circle?  Was he raised outside of it?  If he is Dalish, he must have left the clan very young since he doesn't have the tattoos that mark him as an adult.

In speculating what sort of person he might be, I can't help but think of Finn and Sketch, both of which i really liked and wished we could have gotten to know better.

And being our Fade expert, i could see having him tag along quite a bit in game.
