BTW Solas reminds me of the first enchanter in Kirkwall, and yet at the same time I look at him and think of Felassan from assunder.

It'd be one thing if people were just like 'meh, not interested.'  But instead it's a lot of name calling and childish insults.  i just don't get it.  Even if you think he's ugly, well, okay, that's fine but... In real life, do you only make friends with beautiful people?  Are you yourself the epitome of male or female gorgeousness?

 

It's like looking at some random guy across the street you've never met and being like, "Hey look at that dude!  Look at his face and what he's wearing!  I bet he totally sucks in every way possible!"

Oh no! Please don't take that the wrong way, I wasn't trying to be hostile or anything, everyone is welcome to post his or her opinions on Solas here ofcourse, as long as they do that in a civilized manner. I really don't want this place to turn into the mess that the last romance thread did, that wasn't fun for anyone. So sorry if it seems like I was being mean or shooing people away, I didn't mean it like that at all.

I guess the people who think he looks ugly because he's bald don't remember the time when bald was considered really sexy - Yul Brynner, Tele Savalas.    I knew someone who was prematurely bald due to a genetic condition.   He tended to wear a cap to hide the fact initially because he felt self conscious about it but then gained in self confidence and left it off.   I'm definitely more interested in finding out what Solas is like character wise.   A nasty nature is far more of a turn off for me than how he looks.   A example of this would be Anders.   I was able to cope with his alteration in character from Awakening until I had to talk him down from ripping Ella's head off.   After that it didn't matter how much I liked the look of him, there was no way I was going to get into bed with him.

Sorry if we came off that way, I think we're just worried because of all the posts in other threads (mostly female character or romance threads) that call characters ugly in very offensive ways.  I understand Solas isn't attractive to everyone and some people even think he's ugly, looks like Nic Cage, Nosferatu, or whatever else they want to come up with   I personally hope this thread can be kept clear of the "Ugh he's so disgusting it's so unfair that Bioware gave us such fugly, horrendous monsters I'm going to murderknife him the moment I meet him because I don't like the way he looks he's never coming in my party I hope _____ sexuality gets stuck with him" posts.  Unlikely, but a girl can dream

 

I loved First Enchanter Orsino and Felassan, double score!

 

How do you think we'll meet Solas?  Do you think we'll meet him early in the game?

I'm actually fairly certain that gif (as is with most gifs in this thread) was used in a joking manner. I mean, it's not like we're going out of our way to insult or threaten anyone. As Cezelle said, you are welcome to express your opinions.

I think we will, but I am curious about the order in which we'll meet the companions.  I'd guess we meet Varric and Cass before Solas, but I wonder if we'll get any others before him too?  Plus, I don't really remember godModeAlpha posting in our thread much before (sorry if you have been godMode, I've been semi-absent lately!) so I wanted to invite them into the conversation/speculation

If you remember though, Zathrian was bald as well and that was way before current events.   However, we do know he had suffered a great loss in his life.   So may be elves shave their heads as a sign of mourning or something and since Zathrian had never forgotten or forgiven the death of his children, he kept his shaved head thereafter.

 

Interesting idea. Do you suppose the silly hate people seem to have for a bald character like Solas would be less if they learned that was the reason he has no hair? A symbolic thing due to loss, or vows, something like that? If that is the reason he is bald, I can't imagine it wouldn't be a good storyline to follow in the game. But if he's bald just because he prefers it, then good for him anyway. It certainly doesn't make him ugly or unattractive.

 

Now, if only we knew a little more about him...

Stick around a while, my friend! This thread is the farthest thing from hostile! We've gotten a little frustrated but that isn't towards opinions but more towards obvious trolling. We've seen other threads turn into a bit of a mess and we just worry about the same happening here. As far as I'm concerned, finding Solas unattractive and mentioning it here is fine as long as there's some sort of interest in the character and his personality. Coming into a thread to go "ew, he ain't got no alibi" seems more like trolling than something that should actually be put in a character's discussion thread. 

 

But in the end, we're being negative about something that hasn't happened yet so maybe we shouldn't discuss possible future negativity and just focus on the Solas!

It makes me a little sad to see how focused people are on appearance, even when it comes to video games. I really hope we see Solas as one of the first companions, though I agree with Ispan that's it's very likely that we'll meet Cass and Varric first (if he's sticking close to Cass or he's off doing something else and we meet him later?) since the inquisitor is found by their soldiers. This might sound a bit weird but I can't wait to see that scene with Cass holding a blade to the inquisitors neck, but then without a helmet ofcourse! Wait.. i just realised, how in the world is that going to look when you're playing as a qunari..

This also reminds me that a concept of Fenris was also bald. Of course, that is for other reasons entirely but it suggests that this concept Fenris chose to keep his head shaved after everything. Maybe it really IS meant to symbolize loss or hardship of some sort! Not necessarily just an elf culture thing, but a character design choice perhaps?

I figured he was a Friend of Red Jenny as well.  He definitely isn't Solas.  No scar indentation, and no cleft chin.  He could even be one of Sera's relatives, if you want to get super-sad.

And then we discover Solas is following the Inquisitor solely for academic purposes and embracing eternity. "I'm quite enjoying this tear in the Fade and this person with a glowing hand. I'm sooo gonna win a Nobel prize after I finish my research!"

I also imagine that Varric and Cass will be first, then I would think it depends on a couple of player decisions regarding where to go first. I'd imagine that Viv invites the inquisition over to hers for a chat and that's how she joins.

 

With Solas, I also wonder if the inquisition contacts him or if it's the other way around. Like a "I heard of this fade expert, you should find him, Inquisitor" vs "I heard of someone with a green glowy fade thing in their hand, you should check them out, Solas".

Maybe we will meet Solas before recruiting him in our team? like when we met Winnie at Ostagar, but we recruit her only quite some time later? I would already be happy with this 

I have the feeling Solas will be seen very early in the game.

I dare say this has already been discussed but I'm too lazy to scroll back through umpteen pages.   That bald guy in the foreground of one of the vids is Solas?   Do you suppose he is in some sort of prison?   It looks like he's suffering in some way.   Has there been any clarification on that?  

 

Originally I thought Solas was Dalish and we wouldn't encounter him until we get to the Dales  but now I'm hoping he will be one of the first people we recruit because of the fact he is an expert on the Fade.   If he was being held in some sort of Chantry prison then Cassandra might be the one who gives access to him.   The earlier trailers certainly seemed to show him, Cas and Varric in the party, whereas the later ones have Iron Bull,  Vivienne and Sera.   We meet Sera on the streets of Orlais, Vivienne would be based there and no doubt Iron Bull as well since he is working as a mercenary for the nobles there, so that could account for why they are grouped together.  So may be the original group having the other 3 had a significance.
