Haha that would be amazing, I could totally see him popping out from his hiding place the moment he sees the inquisitors weird Fade power marked hand and everyone will just be standing around being really confused while he's inspecting it

I dare say this has already been discussed but I'm too lazy to scroll back through umpteen pages.   That bald guy in the foreground of one of the vids is Solas?   Do you suppose he is in some sort of prison?   It looks like he's suffering in some way.   Has there been any clarification on that?  

 

That's actually the default male Inquisitor. He's been in some early screenshots without the helmet (wearing That Hat, in fact), but I have no idea where to find them anymore.

 

Assuming we're talking about the same bald guy in the same video, of course.

Hi everyone!  Just wanted to jump in and let you all know that I, also, am excited to learn more about Solas!

 

I mean, seriously, what's with all the hate?  We know almost nothing about him except how he looks, and while not conventionally attractive I find him really striking.  And he's an apostate so we already know there's a story there.  did he escape the circle?  Was he raised outside of it?  If he is Dalish, he must have left the clan very young since he doesn't have the tattoos that mark him as an adult.

I don't know if this was an actual question, but I wonder if he was a weenie and couldn't bear getting the face tattoos. (Just kidding) But it's a funny alternate reality situation to think about. Solas the weenie... o...k....

 

How do you think we'll meet Solas?  Do you think we'll meet him early in the game?

I hope it's early and not later like Legion or something. (I remember getting Legion so late and I'm not sure if that was my doing or the way the game was set up.) But yeah, I hope early. The screen-shots we do have of him have Cass and Varric along for the ride, and I'm assuming they're your buddy-party early-on.

Thanks, I feel a bit stupid now for not realising that.     Seems that throws my theory out of the window about Solas' bald head having some cultural significance.   It would appear that bald heads is simply "the look" for some concept artists.

Well if Solas' look as it is now is his definite look, there's a good chance that it might have to do something with elven culture, I really liked you idea that they would have a reason to shave their heads, and it could really be possible, considering how little we know of elven culture I think they made the inquisitor bald in that fragment (or he was like that already with his helmet on, not sure since we that's the first time we saw him without one) to make him as neutral as they could maybe?

I hope it's early and not later like Legion or something. (I remember getting Legion so late and I'm not sure if that was my doing or the way the game was set up.) But yeah, I hope early. Legion shows up pretty late in the game, just a couple of missions before entering the Omega 4 Relay. Unless you're going for an ending where everyone dies, of course. 

 

I'm feeling pretty confident Solas will show up early in the game, just like Mordin in ME2. He's a Fade expert after all.

yes! the more I think about it, the more I like it. Meeting Solas in the fade, maybe fight to get out of the fade together, than Solas wake up, and Inquisitor get out, and meet Cass.

later, Solas track the Inquisitor (for his study about the fade, of course) and became a companion. It would be quite cool

Oh I'm loving this theory too,maybe this is also the reason why they haven't revealed anything about him yet!I think his whole connection with the fade is rather interesting I believe this is perhaps the main reason that will draw him to the Inquisition in the first place,the ability of the Inquisitor to physically enter the fade (if this is indeed what happens) and close fade tears.So Solas will be our fade buddy,I rather like the sound of that.

I'll have to admit that when I first saw a picture of Solas I wasn't impressed about his looks. But it doesn't matter because for me it's more important what kind of a person he is and is  his voice actor good and suitable for his character. I believe there is a great change that he is very interesting person. Maybe spiritual one and maybe you can have deep conversations with him.

 

How old do you think he is? First I thought that he would be like 40 but when I have saw more pictures of him I think he looks like he is 20. I'm hoping that he is a little bit older over 30 at least.

Hello again.  I've been back and looked at that shot, then compared it with the one of the Inquisitor in the hat.    You can see that beneath the hat he is not bald but razor cut and he also has stubble, whereas the guy in the shot is clean shaven and definitely bald.   Pity it doesn't show the ears as that would definitely decide it but I still think it could be Solas.   After all it is the trailer about the companions coming together, there just isn't a voice over for that bit.   All the others shown have now been revealed.  I think it was originally intended he should be too but then the devs thought better of it.   Keep us guessing because let's face it he is the one we have least go on and therefore the most to speculate about.

 

Just realised it is not the one with the voice over describing the characters, it is simply the one where the Inquisitor says about coming into the light.   Then there are shots of various members of the Inquisition.   The Inquisitor is shown at the beginning in a helmet so why show again without one?  I'm convinced that is Solas.

So the green, glowy totem from the E3 demo is apparently a piece of the antagonist's equipment. Outside of runes, golems, and the lyrium-based explosive charges used by the dwarves magical or Fade-based technology isn't really utilized by anyone in Thedas. The only other example of magical tech is the Eluvian network.

Given all the weird stuff popping up around Thedas perhaps Solas is looking to learn more about it? It would be pretty funny if the Inquisitor closes their first Fade rift only to have Solas come walking out of the woods giving the party a diatribe about how they've ruined weeks of study only to then suddenly realize that somebody was actually able to seal the rift. Cue tons of questions about the glow hand.

Considering Anders' name isn't really Anders and is just a nickname because his family was from the Anderfels, Solas' name being some kind of nickname could be entirely plausible (but, you know, it'd be cool if it was just his legit name, too).

And of course, this is a Dragon Age game, so...he wouldn't be a companion if he didn't have some kind of issue. I'm just hoping it isn't an Anders grade issue. That's a good point, but if he's like that I hope it's different from Merrill's situation.  She was confident that she could handle the blood magic and spirits (and we have nothing to prove that she couldn't) but people didn't trust her and it ended up blowing up in our faces.  I liked Merrill well enough but I don't want to spend the whole game listening to people talk down to Solas the way they did to her.

 

Luckily my premature love of Solas doesn't rely on him being some sweet ideal character.  Bring on the betrayal!  Hit me with some tragedy!  Surprise me     I was initially attracted by his mystery and potential and it's very likely I'll love him even as he stabs me in the back

Hugs.  In one of the interviews they asked Cameron Lee if you could hug your companions.  He was unable to answer the question, but in the interests of fueling our speculation, here are some Inquisitor hugs after a dragon combat.

 

Inquisitor: hugs Vivienne.  "Wow, you toasted that dragon.  Great job!"

Vivienne: "Get off me! You'll soil my robes, peasant."  walks off

 

Inquisitor: hugs Sera.  "An arrow right in the eye.  You're amazing."

Sera: hugs back.  "I'm so glad we all survived.  And the villagers will be safe now." smiles in satisfaction

 

Inquisitor: hugs Iron Bull.  "If you hadn't kept that beast distracted it would have had us all.  You're bleeding, let me help."

Iron Bull:  "It's nothing.  But if you are interested in helping, I wouldn't mind spending some time with you."  pats Quiz on the arse

 

Inquisitor: hugs Varric.  "You had Bianca singing there.  Beautiful."

Solas:  "If you had read Colbert's thesis on the recapture of mana with a fade vortex and Teret's wave theory you could see that the interaction of those principles allowed..."  ump "I can't breathe when you squeeze me that tight."

Inquisitor: "I know,  shut up and kiss me."

I'm so late to the party, but I love the idea of initially meeting Solas in the Fade, him helping us escape, and then meeting him again later in order to officially recruit him.  It would mean that we have a kind of 'special' connection with him, and could keep the ambiguity of his character arc nicely spun out over the rest of the game, like WHAT ARE HIS TRUE INTENTIONS?? DOES HE LOVE ME, OR JUST MY GLOWY HAND??? Which might culminate in fans tears...

 

And yeah, I think Legion does just generally join the team late.  I've played ME2 twelve bajillion times, and I always want to get him earlier but can never bring myself to do the IFF mission until I've got everything else sorted unless I want to see the Disappointed Face of Doom from Chakwas when all the crew die   Which happened to me on my very first playthrough...so innocent, so scarred for life
