The Iron Bull vid is PERFECT! I love watching good voice actors work...it's always fascinating to hear a completely different voice coming out of their mouths when they're doing a character. Plus, Freddie's enthusiasm is charming. Sold on the Bull!

 

I'd love one of these for each character! If they do one for Solas, after this long dry spell we've got going on, we can have the most epically fun meltdown in here EVER. *fingers crossed*

I'm with you there. Although, it does strike me as odd that the only choices for a straight female character are Cullen (who isn't even a follower) and someone as unconventional as The Bull. I think I'll try to stay optimistic for now.

I reeeaaaaally hope that Iron Bull is race gated as a romance.  He seems like an interesting character but a romance with anything other than a Qunari would be a bit weird imo.

 

Having IB as one of two male LIs available to female characters would surprise me,  I'm still hoping there will be more than six LIs.

I'm still pretty convinced Iron Bull not going to be a romance since they said that he'll pretty much have sex with anyone. Unless they're going down the Zevran route again, I'm not entirely sure that he'll be a romance but I won't rule it out either. I think that it's he's just going to be a thing on the side and not officially be a romanceable companion. And like you guys said he might be a race gated, but a romance available ONLY for qunari? That's pretty darn harsh considering there are four races you can choose from. But hey it's Bioware, anything can happen I guess, I just don't want to lose our precious elf..

I think the NPC romances may be "bonus" romances. Because it's a new thing in a DA game, and it was kind of unfair when the ME ones were allocated to gay people. Now that we know that won't be happening this time, I think 8 is a good number.

The maximum number you will get if they are open to all would be six.     To get more you would either have to restrict them by race or sex, or the number of additional cinematics required becomes unwieldy. 

 

I'd suggest the following if limited to 6 but available to all races

 

Female/Female:  Sera (elf)      Female/Male:  Human (Cassandra or Vivenne)     Female Bisexual: Human (Ditto)

Male/Male:     Human (Blackwall or Dorian)     Male/Female:    Human  (Cullen)   Male Bisexual: Qunari (Iron Bull) or Elf (Solas) or Dwarf (Varric)

 

Obviously you could swap Cullen for one of the other humans but I doubt it or have 2 straight male romances (Cullen and the one not gay) but then they would have to be restricted by race.   This would be the absolute limit and still be viable from a technical point of view.     By my reckoning I think there is a good chance that Solas would be a romance but bisexual and limited to humans/elves.

 

If the bisexual romances were going to be limited by race, so humans and elves only available to humans/elves, Qunari limited to Qunari and Dwarf to Dwarf then you might be able to bump up the romances but even then I doubt you could have them all.   

 

So if you take into account that Cullen is not a companion, just an adviser, I'm thinking a maximum of 6 companion romances, plus Cullen, making 7 in all; and one, possibly two, restricted by race.  Scribbles wouldn't feature at all.

I hope IB is a LI! Him and Solas are my first choice followed by Varric, Blackwall, then Cullen I guess. With my luck the male Li's will be Cullen, Dorian, and Sir Roderick Ponce von Fontlebottom.

 

Oooh I would love for Solas to have a deep voice that would be Heaven, I wouldn't be surprised if he has a British accent or an American, I've heard both in Elves in DA Origins and DA 2.

 

I pretty much imagine him with a deep voice not heavily deep but ...y'know deep. Sometimes I imagine him with this kind of voice too at 3:12

 

That's the same voice as Ser Thrask from DA2 right? (also sounds like the male inquisitor could be the same guy to me)

Oh my ! Poor Inquisitor! Is it about the green necklace we saw on the E3 videos? Cause for a moment, while watching it, I wondered too what would happen if someone try to rip the Fade shard from the inquisitor's hand.

Thank you it was more based on the line "I am hunted for the power I wield" and I imagined the big bad either chopping of his whole hand or mangling it so bad it had to be amputated.

His purpose? I don't know other than he's a fade expert, he could probably help the Inquisitor keep the rifts from opening for good at the end or...I have no clue and no more theories for now lol, wish we had more info......

I'm assuming that at some point the shard or whatever it is in the Inquizzy's hand needs to come out. Perhaps Solas can help the PC understand what it is and what happened to the PC and why the PC is amnesiac about the prologue event.

Some people find Iron Bull really appealing.  I'm personally not one of them but this of all threads isn't a place we should be going on and on about how ugly some other character is to us, not when a lot of us are displeased when others go on and on about how ugly they think Solas is,

 

That said... I won't be thrilled if Bull is a romance and Solas is not, because it looks like Cullen will be the straight option, and Dorian may very well be gay.  I don't care for Cullen due to his past (albeit very limited) character development (his loathing of mages and refusal to see them as people), and unless he's just mindbogglingly awesome I won't be pursuing his romance.  Iron Bull's personality, from what little we've heard, appeals to me not at all.  Maybe I'd have a character who's okay with being with someone who is highly unlikely to be faithful, but generally speaking I prefer my characters' LIs to be, well... LIs, and loyal and faithful and all that jazz.  So if he's an option, even if I found him physically appealing I'd be unlikely to go that path.  And then since I mostly play females, well... Dorian being gay would mean the majority of my Inquisitors will most likely remain celibate.

 

That said, some people are acting like it's the end of the world if we can't romance Solas.  I admit it would be disappointing, at this point, but I'm not going to skip the game solely because I don't like any of the romance options.  I'll still enjoy the game regardless.  I'll just, hopefully, if Solas has a compatible personality to my Inquisitor, become his friend.

 

It is also entirely possible that Solas might be the gay option, and Dorian bi, and Iron Bull, as others have suggested, only available as a fling.  In which case I think I'd be perfectly happy to have an Inquisitor pursue Dorian, but rather disappointed I couldn't pursue Solas in most playthroughs.

 

Remember that Dalish elf I mentioned I had planned?  Yeah, if Solas is available to her, that will be the icing on the cake, but my main reason for wanting to play her is because of the things we learn about the elves in Masked Empire (not gonna spoil that for those who haven't read it).  It's bound to make for an interesting story to have the hero be an elf--city elf might in this case be more interesting than Dalish, but there are plot reasons I suspect the city elves would not be at the peace summiit the game is meant to start at--among other reasons city elves aren't available for us to play this time around.

 

But I will say this, I'm going to make sure that I create a female qunari mage, because that gameplay video they had at E3 rocked.  And it may be that only qunari can have Iron Bull, and even that qunari can't be with anyone other than Iron Bull.  Either way, I have a hard time seeing my qunari pursue an elf.  Still... my point is if you aren't happy with the romances available, you can try to think of a character who's fine with them, IF they are that big of a deal to you.

 

And having said all of that, I truly do hope that they make Solas a romance option.  I just can't foresee them having more than six, in which case the race/possibly class gating for the romances might end up leaving us all with fewer options than we've ever had before, rather than more.

I agree with this, I mean I'm a fan of the IB, he's probably going to be a either a really strange romance or fling cause Karin Weeks is now jerking his fans about (you cruel but amazing woman), but i do agree that calling one character ugly is not very nice or respectful. I ironically actually am not that attracted to his appearance but rather his personality.

 

I'm going to still wonder if solas is a demon of some kind, it'd be really cool cause being a fade expert is cause he lived in the fade but never turned into an abomination (perhaps a willing exchange of deals and stuff) it's my fantheory and the demon is predominantly benign, perhaps shows a different side from most demonsXD

I was teetering on the edge of IB fandom for a while but today's "you two work whatever that is out of your system, like poison... weird ass poison" line finally won me over   Solas may be the founding member of my hairless harem, but I hope he doesn't mind that I'm adding IB to the bald and beautiful brigade

What if Solas is race gated against elves? Now that you all hate me, let me explain. Considering we're stuck being Dalish, it leaves open the possibility that one of the elves may be anti-Dalish. If Solas grew up hearing stories about the Dalish fighting the good fight, he may have left the alienage to find them when he discovered he had magic. As we know, most Dalish don't really care about CEs. But if he happened across a particularly hostile clan, he may have spent time with them before growing to resent them and leaving. 

 

It would explain why he has no vallaslin and doesn't look like a mage from a circle (yet seems to have had magical training). If he is indeed withdrawn and solitary, it would make sense for him to be. If he feels as though he doesn't belong anywhere (in an alienage as a mage, a tower with mostly humans, or with the Dalish) he may prefer to be isolated. If he learnt the fundamentals of magic from a Keeper, he may have had a natural curiosity to find out more after he left, or was seeking out ways to protect himself from demons which lead to studying the Fade. 

 

Anyway, I think it would be an interesting take on an elf. Sera could hate the Dalish instead of course. That would also be interesting to me.
